Henri Pourrat's Gaspard des Montagnes

The diploma thesis introduces in detail the chiefliterary work ofHenri Pourrat Gaspard from the Mountains. After the introduction ofthe author's individuality and after highlighting the main sources of inspiration of Pourrat 's work, the thesis is devoted to a thorough analysis of "Gaspard from the Mountains" in terms ofhow it was created in accordance with the oral folk tradition, an analysis which has not been attempted to by anyone tilI this time. This has been proved on the theme of the work itself and on its episodes, structuring of Gaspard from the Mountains into individual part s corresponding with particular evenings which as ifthey were spent together with a woman-narrator ofthe story, on the inserted humour, and last but not least on the way ofhow language devices typical for oral expression are employed. One whole chapter ofthe thesis has been devoted to individuallanguage levels ofthe work. Next, the spiritual part ofthe literary work which basically determines the direction ofthe main story line is stressed because faith underlies all actions of Anne Marie, the heroine ofthe story. The lyrical as well as the spiritual parts also display Henri Porraťs extraordinary poetic capacity. Poetry on the Road

The present study seeks to describe the significance of the road, the walking, the escape in Arthur Rimbaud's poetry through the analysis of his poems and the synthesis of the works of his biographers. The study shows the mentioned themes both as motifs present in all the works of Arthur Rimbaud and as a real, radical desire that led his life. Starting with the first influences and impressions that formed Rimbaud's imagination, through his further flights and wanderings up to the definitive escape to Africa and the refusal of the poetry this work creates a compact line, discovers whether the visions and dreams of the poet were fulfilled and whether his poetry relates to his life journey. The study also focuses on the subject of the unity of life and art through the analysis of different approaches of literary scientists.

Lolita in Serge Gainsbourg's life and works

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the motif of 'lolita' (an adolescent girl as the object of erotic interest) in works of a french singer, songwriter, poet, actor, screenwriter and director Serge Gainsbourg. The majority of his works were written for women or about them. Enchanted by the character of Lolita from the Nabokov's book of the same name, he wants to find it's embodiment even though he considers the character to be abstract. His obsession with the idea of 'lolita' as an archetype is significantly influencing his works just as his emotional life. The first part presents Serge Gainsbourg. The second part treats the topic of 'lolita' in Nabokov's works. The main part aims at Gainsbourg's works in which the influence of the motif is the most apparent. Finally, the thesis compares the Nabokov's and the Gainsbourg's conceptions of 'lolita' and it resumes the differences between them. Key words : lolita, obsession, myth, eros

Alfred de Musset and his dramatic work

The purpose of this study is to define different types of love in selected theatre plays of Alfred de Musset. I also partly focused in his plays on social questions, negative characters and unconventional theatrical methods. At first I introduced the work and important moments of writer's life which were often an inspiration for his stories and characters. I also outlined the brief history of romantic theatre and finally analyzed the theatre plays. The selected analyzes include the extracts illustrating the types of loves or unique traits of characters. The contribution of this study consists in defining the original method the author used to describe the profundity of the feelings of his characters. The myth of Orpheus in the poetry of the 19th and 20th century

This bachelor thesis The myth of Orpheus in the french poetry of 19th and 20th century deals with the mythological references left in the work of significant authors of the modern French poetry. In the first part of the thesis, the Pre-literary and literary versions of the ancient myth of Orpheus are mentioned. We are focusing on the writings of Ovid and Virgil which are analysed. In the following chapters of the second part, constituent motifs are looked up in works of chosen authors from the period of romanticism to the forties of 20th century in connection with particular literary context. The specifical usage of the myth and his changes are observed and described. In the third part; all authors' adaptations are compared also with indication the importance of ancient mythology in the modern literature.

Typology of Marcel Aymé's short stories

The goal of this paper is to map and classify the short stories of French author Marcel Aymé. In the first part of the work the characterstics of the short story as a literary genre are defined and its evolution during the 20th century is illustrated. In the second part, Aymé's life is described as well as general characteristics of his work are exposed and put into contemporary literary context. In the third and main part of the work, Aymé's short stories are presented and the thematic groups are stated (set up as based on the lecture of Aymé's collected short stories), into which the individual stories can be included. Each one of these groups is then explained separately and its general characteristics are outlined. The conclusion then presents the basic thematic overview of the stories.

Jazz in French Literature

Jazz in the French literature is not a typical subject of academic papers perhaps due to the fact that the matter of jazz is generally assigned to the American culture. The aim of this work is to prove that even though jazz is established both from the aesthetic and mental aspect on the principles substantially different from the European cultural tradition, it is a topic which has been richly elaborated on in the French literature. In the first part of this work we provide a complex insight into those principles as well as on the possibility of the transfer of jazz into literature. In the second part we describe the coming together of jazz and the French culture and its presence in selected literary works of Pascal Quignard, Boris Vian, Philippe Soupault and Jean Cocteau. The final analysis of the life and work of Christian Gailly serves as evidence that the jazz makes the French literature approachable for the world, resulting in a text which is at the same time lively and unconventional both from the formal and substantive point of view.

Myth of Narcissus in French literature at the turn of the 20th Century

Magdalena Kučerová Dissertation work: Myth of Narcissus in French literature at the turn of the 20th century ABSTRACT: This dissertation thesis based on knowledge of French myth criticism deals with the issue of myths in literature, which is a specific manifestation of human symbolic imagination. In its most general level the work studies the definition of a myth and its social function as well as the matter of opposite notions regarding to the mythos and logos, which have gradually more and more differentiated along with the development of European thinking. The myth of Narcissus has probably been one of the oldest myths in European culture. In its most renowned and most comprehensive form, the myth first appeared in the third book of Metamorphoses by Ovid, which has served as an inspiration for remakes by many later authors. The story of a young man who fell in love with his own reflection on the surface of the water contains a great variety of semantically strong structures (mainly the motifs of a mirror, narcissistic love, passively superior character of a hero, or the final metamorphoses into a flower), which are analysed in this study. Characters of father and mother and their evolution in the Driss Chraïbi's autofictions

The Moroccan Driss Chraïbi belongs to the most important Francophone authors in the contemporary Maghreb literature. A lot of his works are inspired by autobiography literature and this thesis will study this part of his work. We will consider culture aspects of Driss Chraïbi's texts and focus on characters of mother and father. We will see how the traditional family model is affected by the West one, so by the European culture. The images of father develop from a patriarch tyrant to a friendly man understanding the modern world. Mother, traditionally representing the tradition and the family, becomes in certain texts fighter for the woman liberation and for women's rights. However the author does not seem to reject the tradition. The analysis focuses on these questions. At the beginning we will also introduce the author in the North African literature context and determine the part of the autofiction of Driss Chraïbi's works.
