Urban Study of conversion of Tomioka Silk Mill, Japan
Havlík, Jan ; Zemánek, Václav (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The Tomioka Silk Mill, an extraordinary industrial heritage in the Prefecture of Gunma on the Honshu island, is waiting to be included to the List of Unesco (nowadays is only on the List Tentative). Former factory, documenting the integration of French technology and Japonese architecture, was realised on the principle of classical factory zoning. The conversion of the mill, aiming at multiple-municipal functions, is reflected in a new urbanistic conception of the area in the municipal context. The project proposes and checks functional zones for users and sightseeing routes for turists. The part of that is evaluating the potential of the mill objects, of the landscape of the mill and of the functional municipal relations.

Cytotoxicity of etxract from Vaccinium bracteatum
Landa, Přemysl ; Havlík, J. ; Bradshaw, T.D. ; Chu, J. ; Maršík, Petr ; Vaněk, Tomáš ; Lou, J.D.
Vaccinium bracteatum is a shrub originating from East Asia and is traditionally used for cancer treatment, according to some ethnobotanical indications. After successive extraction of dry berries with n-hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and water, the cytotoxic activity of extracts was assessed using the 3-( 4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) colourimetric assay. Methanolic extract showed mild cytotoxic properties against MCF-7, BCT-116 and MRC-5 cell lines with lCso ranging from 186 to 285 /lg/mL, while other extracts were not active (lC50>500 /lg/mL). The potency of methanolic extract only suggests a possible role of flavonoids.

Modern Opera Directing in the Mid-20th Century
Otava, Martin ; HAVLÍK, Jaromír (advisor) ; HAJÓSSYOVÁ, Magdaléna (referee)
This work is intended primarily for young opera directors and students of opera directing. It?s divided into four chapters. The first three focus on the development of theater directing in the 20th century (with a spatial emphasis on opera.) In these chapters, I introduce a theoretical view on, and trends in, the task of the
director. The second half of the work, chapter 4, offers a perspective on the practice of directing with a special emphasis on the director?s collaboration with the artist. The ambition of the work is also to place the work of important Czech opera director Bohumil Hrdlička into a Czech and, after his immigration, a European context. This under appreciated artist, and important European director, has yet
to receive a full treatment of his work. In my exploration, I focus on the entire, broad, subject of opera directing on both a historical and practical level. My goal was to realize the complexity of the
subject, interpret it, and synthesize it from the perspective of a director in such a way as to gain the necessary perspective on the field in the context of the 20th century, so as to be able to use this knowledge not only as a director but, more importantly, as a pedagogue. A similar historical and practical handbook, which
also provides a personal view on the issues at hand, has until now been unavailable to students of opera directing in the Czech Republic.

Theoretical basic of the organ interpretation
Dvořáková, Jiřina ; HAVLÍK, Jaromír (advisor) ; TICHÝ, Vladimír (referee)
This work tries to explaine the history of organ interpretation and it´s evolution in Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1989. Determining the cause of the organ interpretation, the work presents a new system ? the analysis of the musical interpretation in general. This analysis tries to describe musical interpretation as a logical and paradigmatical system based on elements of interpretation during the performing event. These elements are characterized as two hierarchical levels expalined by semantic and structural categories of the composition.
