Bavarian nominations to the throne of Bohemia in the late middle ages and early modern era
Herglová, Ivana ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee) ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor)
Due to the irnrnediate environment, the relations between the Kingdom of Bohemia and the Duchy of Bavaria were very frequent and of various nature. The peak of the medieval relations between both the countries was no doubt between the 14th and early 15th century when the kings of the Luxembourg dynasty fought with the Bavarian duke' s family of Wittelsbach for the hegemony in the Holy Roman Empire. In the 15th century, both countries were weakened through either territory division in the case of Bavaria or nonexistence of Royal power in the Bohemian case. The direct contact of both the countries led, during the 15~ and early 16th century to several nominations of Bavarian dukes from the lines Bavaria-Munich, Bavaria-Landshut and the Palatinate-side line to the throne of Bohemia. The two most promising nominations were those of Albrecht III. of BavariaMunich in 1440 and of William IV. and Louis X. of Bavaria, both in opposi tion to the Habsburg House currently holding also the position of the Roman king. The negative answer of the duke to the nomination of Albrecht III. was not influenced by the lack of money as it is often suggested. Nor was the duke discouraged by the overall complicated situation in the Bohemian Kingdom. As a person who grew up in the country and joined also the Empirial forces in the...
Unfulfilled dream. Assumptions, course and causes of unsuccessful establishment of the University of Wroclaw in 1505. Contribution to the history of education in the neighboring countries of the Czech Crown

Odra, na níž ležíJ, a jejíž rozbouřený proud řeky Jtěpíš na mnohá ramena, ta řeka, jež protéká všemi severními krajinami, nikde - od pramene po ústi - nevidi nic, co hy se ti mohlo vyrovnat, Vratislav i!" Těmito slovy velebil Bartoloměj Stein, známý slezský humanista, na začátku 16. století ve svém díle Popis celého Slezska a královského města Vratislavi, n~jvýznamnější z tehdejších slezských mčst a druhé největší město České koruny. Jeho výjimečnosti si přitom byli vědomi rovněž další Steinovi současníci, kteří do města přijížděli, a o jejichž příznivých dojmech svědčí mnohé pochvalné verše, jež Vratislavi věnovali. Vratislav sice nikdy nedosáhla velkolepostí, slávy a tradic rezidenčního královského města, tak jak tomu bylo například v případě Prahy, avšak její velikost, dominantní postavení v církevním, správním i kulturním životě a postavení v mezinárodním obchodu, z ní činily na přelomu 15. a 16. století jedno z nejvlivnějších měst vedlejších zemí České koruny. Nástup humanismu a nových intelektuálních podnětů přitom přinesl do kulturně společenského dění města mnoho změn. Jedním z projevů těchto tendencí byl i rostoucí zájem o vzdělání, jenž se projevoval v církevním i městském prostředí. V zdě lání se stávalo podmínkou pro získání některých církevních obročí, ve školách se objevily nové metody a...
Saxon nation of Prague university law school (1372-1419)

Ačkoliv dosavadní česká historiografie věnovala univerzitním národům poměrně velkou pozornost, a to zvláště v souvislosti s vydáním Kutnohorského dekretu, některé události zůstávají nadále opomíjeny a institucionální podoba pražských univerzitních národů rovněž nebyla dostatečně objasněna. Tuto skutečnost do jisté míry ilustruje i fakt, že k tomuto tématu v českém dějepisectví dosud neexistuje nejen samostatná monografie, ale ani důkladnější studie. O něco více pozornosti těmto otázkám věnovala...
The Valley of the Bees. Analysis of a historical film. The historical film and the making of historical cognizance. Historical film in teaching history
Balík, Ondřej ; Klimeš, Ivan (referee) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor)
I have always considered the enormously powerful and influencial film art to be an interesting topic for various reflections. The obvious difference between written literature, which works with the imagination of a reader, and the illusion-based film, makes us ask what information a viewer gets from a film, and what implications it bears. In order to get an answer to this question, I decided to choose a film and to analyse it. The historical feature film Údolí včel (The Valley oj the Bees) is an outstanding work of art of the famous Czech film director František Vláčil and the screen writer Vladimír K6mer, who made this film in 1967. The story is set in an the thirteenth century. A young son of a Czech thane Ondřej is sent to a monastic knight order. He meets a friend there - Armin von Heide - a hard and a somewhat fanatic knight. Ondřej runs away from the monastery, chased by Armin. At home, he takes care of Vlkov, an estate he inherited from his father. He falls in love with his stepmother and they decide to get married. But on the day oftheir wedding, Armin, who finally found Ondřej, decides to kill Ondřej 's young wife. In his despair, Ondřej lets his dog s kill Armin and then leaves home to retum to the monastery.

Jiřina Popelová's Comeniological studies
Hajíček, Jakub ; Schlegelová, Jaroslava (referee) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor)
The thesi s deals with both published and unpublished texts which Jirina Popelova (1904 - 1985) wrote about Jan Amos Komensky. ln the introduction part there is a brief curriculum vitae of Jirina Popelova and then significance of her work in Czech Comeniological research is described. The following chapter presents relationship between Comeniological studies and the rest of her work. (She also thought and wrote e. g. about ethics or history of philosophy.) The most extensive chapter is an analysis of single Comeniological texts focusing particularly on less known studies from 1970' s. The conclusion is that Jirina Popelova was a researcher who changed general understanding of Jan Amos Komensky, especially comprehension of his basic writing The General Deliberation on the Remedy of Human Matters.
Influence of bioeffector RhizoVital on the soil phosphorus availability and P uptake by maize
Beneš, Zdeněk ; Kulhánek, Martin (advisor) ; Černý, Jindřich (referee)
Phosphorus is likely to become, in the near future, a critical element in plant nutrition. The main reasons are primarily limited resources of P for fertilizer production. Therefore, it is necessary to look for a long term solution. One option is to use P -containing waste, such as sewage sludge, digestate or ashes. Another option arises from the fact that approximately 90 % of P in soil is found in non-bioavailable forms. Therefore, mobilization of these forms could secure enough P for plat growth in the long term horizon. So-called bioeffectors are developed for this purpose; to promote the accessibility of nutrients for plants. It is evident, however, that the application of bioeffectors alone could lead to a gradual outflow of the most P from the soil. Therefore the most favourable appears application of bioeffectors in combination with various phosphatic fertilizers or wastes. Especially rock phosphates, ash and digestate contain significant amounts of non-bioavailable P-forms. That implies that the joint application of these fertilizers and bioeffectors should lead to more efficient utilization of P, and thus reduce the input of fertilizers into the soil. The aim was to verify influence of a combination of 3 bioeffectors (effective microorganisms: Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, strains FZB42 and FZB45, and the combination of FZB42 strain with Paenibacillus mucilaginosus strain JX - 1) in combination with rock phosphate, sewage sludge, torrefied sewage sludge, separated digestate, straw and wood ash on increase of aboveground biomass of maize and on the content and uptake of phosphorus and other selected nutrients. The evaluated alternatives of fertilization regardless of applied bioeffectors suggest that the greatest effect on the yield of above-ground biomass showed sewage sludge, wood ashes, and especially straw ashes. These fertilizers significantly increased the content and uptake of S as well. In other monitored parameters it was not possible to clearly identify the tendencies. The application of bioeffectors alone or in combination with the above mentioned materials did not bring the positive effect on the monitored parameters. On the contrary, the combination of Paenibacillus strains FZB42 mucilaginosus showed in many cases significantly negative impact.
