It can be said that the whole issue of exodus looks at the thing like this: It is not excluded that such events occurred, when a wave of Hebrews were looking for a better life ( and some of them were streaming from Egypt ). Miraculous signs and symbols, epidemics and wounds, death and the spectacular deliverance- as they are filed in the biblical messages- nothing of the sort happened exactly.

The Role of the Black Woman in the Brazilian Society

The target of the bachelor work is to delineate progression of black woman in Brazilian society, her effect on that society but also existing difficulty to succeed in that society. During completing the bachelor work the author is focusing on these topics: mixing of inequality (intersectionality), racism, interracial relationships and their influence on racial identity of black woman. Further the author is showing statistics confirming mentioned discrimination and mesures which target to solve the actual situation.

The Reconstruction Amendments and their Relevance to Economic and Social Issues Faced by the United States from the 19th Century Onwards

This thesis examines a period in the history of the United States between 1865 and 1877 known as Reconstruction. It develops around the major pieces of legislation that were enacted over the course of its duration, and which incorporated for the first time into the American Constitution civil rights related to the country's black population of (in the examined period already former) slaves. The Reconstruction Amendments, as Amendments Thirteen, Fourteen, and Fifteen to the U.S. Constitution came to be known, had several functions: one of them was to define the status of freed blacks in the post-war country, and they were also to serve as a means of restoring political and economic stability in the South devastated by the Civil War. The first part of the thesis looks at the so-called Presidential Reconstruction, which lasted until 1866 and was characterised by rather 'mild' provisions in the South on the part of the U.S. government. Lack of national intervention on the level of individual states, insufficient financial funds and President Johnson's sympathy toward the class of white Southern planters prevented a more radical development in the post-war South. System of slavery in traditional Korea

The main aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive account of the development of the institution of slavery in Korea. Slavery was a part of Korean society from its earliest times, and the evidence of this can be found in the penal code of eight provisions enacted by the mythical emperor Kidža, where he for the first time mentioned slavery as a punishment for theft. From this time on it was ceaselessly present in Korean society until its abolition in 1894. The oldest form of slavery as a punishment was gradually supplemented with other ways of how a person could fall into slavery. Individual slavery gradually evolved into hereditary slavery. Despite the fact that slavery was ceaselessly present in Korean society, the character and even the existence of it are still called into question in academic discussions. In the introductory part of my thesis I focused on the very essence of slavery. Afterwards, I gave a brief overview of the characteristics of three typical slave societies i.e. ancient Greece, ancient Rome and the United States of America. Studying the important characteristics of slavery in other slave societies provided the base for a detailed analysis of the connections with the Korean type of slavery. Representing Slavery in Black British Writing

This thesis is concerned with black British literature which deals with the issue of slavery. The chosen authors are of a Caribbean or an Afro-Indian (though, an American novelist was used for needs of comparison) origin and belong to the black diaspora in Britain. The issue of slavery in the Caribbean is central to the forming of and creating an identity and defining the concept of home in the works debated. The aim of this thesis is to determine the impact of the past of slavery on the identity of people in the black British diaspora as well as to determine the approach and aesthetic choice most appropriate for representation of such traumatic past. The first part of this thesis concentrates on theoretical background of the topic of slavery in the Caribbean in order to define terms such as diaspora, cultural identity, memory and the difficulty of not only artistic representation of slavery but also its remembering. It also includes the historical background of slavery and slave trade in Britain and the Caribbean in the eighteenth and the nineteenth century in order to be able to judge the accuracy of the works and to comprehend the cruel reality of slavery. Henry David Thoreau and His View of Slavery

This BA thesis is concerned with Henry David Thoreau's opinions on slavery. The first part of the thesis focuses on the development of the abolitionist movement in the first half of the nineteenth century and of antislavery tendencies and organizations. The most important figures of the abolitionist movement, such as Benjamin Lundy, William Lloyd Garrison, Theodore Dwight Weld, David Walker or Frederick Douglass, as well as the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and the 1865 adoption of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, are paid attention to. Thoreau's essays Civil Disobedience, Slavery in Massachusetts and A Plea for Captain John Brown are analyzed in the thesis. In his Civil Disobedience, the author criticizes the government for abusing, rather than protecting, American citizens, who have elected it and enabled its functioning. Thoreau scorns the government for supporting slavery and for waging the Mexican-American War. He believes that every man has an inalienable right to be free and since the government takes this right away from people, he responds to it with civil disobedience. Slavery in Works of the 1st Half of the 19th Century Cuban Authors

This thesis consists of an analysis of the works of two Cuban authors of the first half of the 19th Century, Francisco de Arango y Parreño and José Antonio Saco. This paper focuses on their works, mainly on those that discuss the topic of slavery. The first chapter introduces the evolution of slavery and its end throughout the Word and in Cuba, focusing on the development of the Cuban society in the 19th century, in which both of the authors lived and created. The second chapter analyses the works of Francisco de Arango y Parreño, his gradual development of ideas and views on the subject in connection with historical events that influenced his works. The third chapter is comprised of similar analysis of José Antonio Saco's works. The conclusion compares the works of both authors and highlights the points in which their views coincide or diverge. Cotton Industry and the Civil War in the USA

The topic of this work is production of raw cotton in USA before the civil war. Cotton growing is typical industry, in which slave labour has been used. Cotton production in the second half of 19th century was important industry worldwide. This is the reason why I use this industry to analyze slavery. Some slaves had higher level of nourishment than some free labourers in the North. This is the reason why I focus on calculation of costs, which were paid for use a slave labour. I make a cost analysis of cotton production and I also calculate income of this production. In opposite this situation I create a hypothetical model situation. In this model would plantation owners employ free labourers. Results of this model I compare with costs of war which were paid by South. This way I figure out motivations for South to make war and defend slavery. By analytic method and theoretical model I gain better picture of slave plantations and importance of slavery for whole southern economy. JEL classification N310, N410, N510, J230, J320

Slavery in Ancient Israel

The work deals with the system of slavery in ancient Israel. The first part describes the history of this country and development of its society including specific categories of slaves that used to be part of it. It deals with the houshold slaves in the possession of their owners, as well as slaves-for-debts. In connection with a debt slavery the thesis also elaborates on the Old Testament Israel loan system. The next part concerns a detailed analysis of various regulations for treating slaves, which are divided according to the particular books of the Old Testament where they can be found. The results are then summarized in the conclusion.
