Sustainability Analysis of Small and Medium Enterprises
Vojtěšek, Cyril ; Basl, Josef (advisor) ; Gála, Libor (referee)
The Diploma thesis analyzes the attitude of small and medium Czech enterprises towards the Green IT and sustainability concept. Several practices such as consolidation and virtualization of servers, desktop virtualization, cloud computing, energy management, dematerialization and recycling are discussed with regards to their contribution to global sustainability. The common denominator of most of the Green IT practices is the energy consumption reduction. The increasing information technology's demand for energy is viewed as a major contributor to the global carbon footprint and Green IT practices are assessed in terms of how much energy can be saved by incorporating them in a company policy. Besides energy consumption material aspects are another significant part of Green IT. Both the toxicity of certain materials used in the manufacturing process and the increased need for proper recycling of electronic waste are discussed in respective chapters. Information technology does not only add to the global carbon footprint, but it can also provide means to reduce the emissions of other sectors. Companies can reduce their energy consumption by improving logistics (smart logistics) or buildings (smart buildings) efficiency. Teleworking is another practice which enables millions of people work outside their office and contributes to global sustainability. The analytical part presents a survey of Czech small and medium enterprises and their attitude to Green IT. The main objective of the survey is to find out how many companies have implemented Green IT into their company policy. Company representatives report on which Green IT practices they have adopted and why. Responses are analyzed and findings and conclusions are presented.
Recycling of the construction waste
NOVÁČKOVÁ, Pavlína
The growth of waste is a phenomenon which is typical for the economically developed society and concurrently one of major problem with environmental protection. Therefore it is necessary legislatively regulate the increasing volume of waste, support waste recycling and support consequent use to keep the sustainable development. Construction and demolition waste presents a significant part of the total volume of waste. Recycling of construction and demolition waste has two basic advantages. On the one hand, it significantly reduces the capacity of waste repositories, and on the other hand recycled material is an important source of reusable materials.
The problem of waste recycling in different age groups of residents
VACKOVÁ, Jana
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to clear up the problems of separating the waste and to point out the awareness and willingness of the people to separate the waste, namely according to their individual age. The literary rewiev is concentrated on the treatment of the waste and its individual technologies. In more detail I describe individual types of separated waste and its recycling. I also follow up the influence of different characteristic of the population (gender, age, residence) in relation to their willingness to sort the waste. The thing is, that the human behavior it?s the main cause damaging our negative influence of the human society on the environment. In the practical part, I pursued the quantitative research by the method of questionnaire inquiry. Using the answers in the questionnaire, I found out which factors influence the separation of the waste with the population. The basic factors were the age and the gender. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to discover, whether the individual age categories differ in the separation of the waste. The most, the waste was always separated by inhabitants at the age between 36 ? 50 years. At least, at the age of 66 and plus: generally, younger people separated the waste more than older people, which may be caused by public education and good awareness of young people. On the contrary, old people were most often prevented from sorting out the waste by the illness, the distance of the containers or their unwillingness to separate was based on little knowledge and information.
Obstacles to waste sorting of households in Southern Bohemia
HAVLOVÁ, Marie
Waste sorting and recycling has come to the fore in the last decades in all European countries. The main reason is a necessity to reduce the total amount of waste landfilled without further use. The aim of waste management is to reduce formation of waste and handling with waste for its maximum utilization as a raw material and minimal encroachment to environment. This bachelor's work deals the waste sorting of household and an obstacles in waste separation in households. The work is divided into two main parts. The first, theoretical part, contains a summary of information about the history of waste management and legislation from the European Union level to the regional and municipal planning of waste management and waste management of waste producers itself. The practical part of this work examines through a questionnaire survey the attitudes of the population to waste sorting and influences that may encourage waste sorting or conversely hinder from it. The results demonstrated that the majority of population understands the importance of waste separation and recycling. On the other hand, there is a scope for raising awareness about the usefulness of utilization of recycled materials. Therefore the conclusion summarizes some of the main issues and suggestions for promoting waste separation.
Current technologies and landfilling of waste and its prospects in the Czech Republic
VELEK, Jindřich
This bachelor thesis deals with waste management in the Czech Republic, especially landfilling. Different types of landfills, their technical aspects and methods of depositing waste are described. The thesis also describes the main legislation concerning waste management in the Czech Republic and tries to point out material and energetic use of waste before landfilling. Recycling is considered to be important because it decreases the amount of waste stored in landfills. Composting and anaerobic digestion are the other methods of disposal. The thesis also describes the possibilities of usage of the landfill gasses with the help of cogeneration units. The thesis refers to current level of waste landfilling in the Czech Republic and predicts the future development.
Burden of environmental noise caused by disposal of demolition waste and its recycling.
VEJVODA, Jan
This bachelor?s thesis deals with the burden of environmental noise caused by disposal of demolition waste and its recycling. The theoretical part is focused on the demolition waste recycling technology and the use of recycled products. The measurements show environmental burden, and results are compared against the legislation. For activities that produce noise above noise limits, environmental noise reduction measures are determined.
