Security in Oracle database
Lukanič, Michal ; Čermák, Igor (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
The amount of electronically stored data is constantly growing. That's why we should consider the data security. Most electronic information is stored in the database. This thesis is concerned with ensuring data security in the Oracle database. First of all, I describe some of the available security surveys, to make it clear why we need to ensure the data security. In addition, I also describe the main aspects of information security. The aim is to introduce what we mean by security of information. Then I examine the recommendations of ISO 17799 standard, which is one of the sources for the measures described in the main part of this thesis. The next part is dedicated to finding the important security threats, which are used as a basis for following description of security tools. The aim of described recommendations and threats is to discover what is needed to ensure the data security. In the main part of this thesis I discuss the various security tools and procedures. The main objective of this thesis is the description of tools and procedures to ensure data security, following the recommendations of international standards and typical security threats. All described tools are part of the Oracle database. I place emphasis on the user access control.
Practical possibilities of using Apache CouchDb
Pultera, Ondřej ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Strossa, Petr (referee)
This bachelor work is focused on practical possibilities of using Apache CouchDb a document oriented database system. In the first chapter I explain the basic theoretical terms and principles related to Apache CouchDb. I also briefly introduce database systems based on the relational model. The second chapter describes the architecture and properties of Apache CouchDb. In this chapter I also try to explain principles of running Apache CouchDb in a distributed system and think about need for new database systems. In the third chapter I review case studies of successful Apache CouchDb implementations. In this chapter I want to point out scenarios for which is Apache CouchDb a good candidate. In the next chapter I focus on practical usage of the system. I mention the tool for administering Apache CouchDb and describe some settings. I also show examples how to do basic operations through the HTTP interface. The examples are made with scripting languages PHP and JavaScript. This chapter introduces Apache CouchDb from the point of view of and administrator or developer. The reader of this work should understand the basic concepts of Apache CouchDb and be able to determine the usability of this system for a concrete purpose.
Comparison of open source database systems
Véle, Marek ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Klas, Jan (referee)
Goal of this paper was to compare chosen open source database management systems from theoretical and practical point and assess their suitable use. For this comparison I chose MySQL, PostgreSQL and MonetDB database systems. Theoretical comparison involved licenses covering the systems, available support, supported platforms, usable interfaces and data types. In practical comparison I conducted basic installation and configuration in real environment and tested performance of execution of certain SQL queries. One of the aspects of performance testing was to determine the influence of data storing architecture on speed of execution of specific types of queries. Documentation available with the compared systems and official web pages of particular systems served as the main source for theoretical comparison. I conducted the practical part using the linux platform. To access the systems and for the SQL queries input I used the standard JDBC interface. As data for testing I used random data from Open Source Database Benchmark, which I ordered into two similar tables. I defined the test queries myself in order to compare the performance of database systems in whole and in particular fields. I've reached a conclusion that MySQL is suitable for corporate and stand-alone users thanks to wide support, choice of licenses and diversified spectrum of available interfaces and supported platforms. However, its performance in many fields including index creation and ordering of data was very poor in tested configuration. PostgreSQL can indeed discourage mostly corporate users by worse choice of commercial support and interfaces shipped with the system, but these problems are mostly compensated by active community, or third parties. The performance of PostgreSQL was outstanding, I find it suitable for larger data collections and it's fast even in cases when indexing of data didn't take place. MonetDB, as a not well-known while academically developed system, has little chance for a breakthrough outside its field of origin. Its column oriented storage of data proved convenient when selecting very small number of columns. Even without any indexation all test queries were executed with good speed. Individual chapters of the theoretical part are divided based on the compared systems. The practical part only consists of one chapter divided according to order of actions. At the end of each chapter there is evaluation of discovered facts.
Comparison of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Database Systems
Use of LINQ technology
Fexa, Marek ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Jelínek, Pavel (referee)
This work is focused at new Microsoft technology for querying data LINQ (Language intergrated query). It is built as complex technology, it allows working with various data sources. For example it contains collections of objects, created for temporary storing data in memory, but also data in robust database systems. In first part of this work I describe how data was queried before LINQ was on scene and what reasons made LINQ originate. Then I analyze new features in C# that were prerequisites for creating language integrated query as part of base libraries. Next part focuses at query operators, their interfaces and provides examples of use. Then I describe LINQ technology in complex, I create and describe in detail process of execution of LINQ query. Next chapter describes querying ADO.NET Datasets. Practical examples are created for both typed and untyped Datasets. In following chapter I analyze LINQ to SQL functionality. There is described method of implementation, mainly translation LINQ query to SQL language, integrated object rational mapping tool, change tracking in mapped objects including concurrency problems. At the end of the chapter I sketch the future in data access in ADO.NET entities. In last but one chapter is created complex application of use LINQ technology. Application is built as thin client that uses LINQ as for reading and manipulating data from relational database. In the application is LINQ also used common work with component that presents data. At the end part of this work is LINQ technology summarized. Contribution and pitfalls of LINQ technology are also described.
