This thesis focuses on the historical development of radio reportage. The topic includes both political and technological aspects which radio reportage underwent within the Czech environment. All historical periods are described using concrete radio reportages which were broadcast during given terms. The reader can imagine how the radio reporters dealt with first the Germans and then the Soviets. It was the Czech Radio and its reporters who helped Czech people to overcome certain periods in our history. And so in this thesis we can find reportages broadcast during the second world war, right after the end of this war and during the highlights of the communist era - 1968 and 1989. This publication considers the original sources which are kept in the archive of the Czech Radio which is called Archivní a programové fondy Českého rozhlasu. However, this thesis also includes some contributions of contemporary journalists who are interested in history. It should help readers to improve the knowledge of this topics and to organize the development of radio reportage.
Creating Memory in Public Broadcasting
Novotná, Petra ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Zandlová, Markéta (referee)
In my diploma thesis I describe the process, in which some episodes of the radio program Příběhy 20. století are made and with this example I explain, which factors can influence remembering in a medium of the public sphere and how "lieux de mémoire" occur in its broadcasting. I examine the recording of some of the narratives that can possibly be presented in the radio program, how the interviewers handle the interviewees and what motivation do they have to work in a project like this. I focus on how the stories are picked for the radio program, how are they edited, who takes part in the editing and how is it possible that they are in charge of it. My diploma thesis also includes a detailed description of the social position of Post Bellum organisation and its fundamental project Paměť národa, which are both closely connected to radio program Příběhy 20. století. In the conclusion of my thesis I deal with the fact, that this social position is one of the main elements in the process of memory making in public sphere medium, because it has an indirect impact on it. In my thesis I try to answer, what influence can the examined radio program (as part of institutionalized remembering and media communication) have on social memory.

Saying Seen Again: Audio-Visual Aspects of Samuel Beckett's Company, Ill Seen Ill Said, and Worstward Ho
Kiryushina, Galina ; Pilný, Ondřej (advisor) ; Wallace, Clare (referee)
IN ENGLISH The primary concern of this thesis is to explore the instances of incorporation of media-specific elements extracted and translated from radio and cinema into Samuel Beckett's late prose. The analysis of the texts forming Beckett's Nohow On trilogy is based on the investigation of the two modes of perception - the aural and the visual - and is realised through the close reading of Company, Ill Seen Ill Said, and Wostward Ho in the context of media and film theory and practice. The chief premise is that the formal translations among the print and non-print media in Beckett's work are conditioned by the author's interest in, and theoretical and practical familiarity with, radio, television, and cinematography. The discussion is thus supported by biographical and bibliographical framework, and Beckett's familiarity with the specificities of broadcast media and cinema is considered in their direct relation to the progressive 'technologisation' of his fiction of the 1980s. The thesis outlines the origins and transformations of the motif of voice as one of Beckett's chief fictional concerns, and explores the texts' practical and notional borrowings from the field of cinematography to elucidate the way in which they are designed to simulate perceptual experiences. In doing so, the individual...
