Code switching and code mixing in DVTV - online channel interviews

The aim of this thesis is to find out to what extent DVTV Internet TV speakers adhere to Literary Czech in each interview they perform and under which circumstances they do not. We also wanted to contribute to the answers to the question, whether it is appropriate to think about the transition from the current concept of Literary Czech to Standard Czech. During the interview analysis, we monitored the rate of occurrence of the non-standard elements, the influence of the speaker's role in the interview, and selected sociolinguistic factors which have influence on the choice of language code. We compared the results with the research of other journalistic interviews and with the corpus data from the Common Czech. The examined material consisted of 30 interviews from January to February 2016. We found out that some of the interviewed people tended to use Literary Czech, some were speaking non-standard Czech and there were also people whose speech was in terms of the occurrence of Literary and non-standard elements rather mixed. Nevertheless, in general, the character of the texts was rather literary. Czech of Slovak Speakers

The bachelor`s thesis Czech of Slovak Speakers analyzes the spoken language speeches by two Slovak speakers in the Czech language on the basis of language transfer, semicommunication and linguistic typology of errors described in the first part. The second part is in relation to the theoretical definition of the problem devoted to the research. It describes and according to the language levels divides errors as actually found in the speeches and imagined, which are described by speakers themselves. The conclusion find out the ratio between the errors caused by interference and by other influences. We explain possible causes of this situation and we are suggesting a solution there.

Comparison of the Polish translation of the novel "Konec punku v Helsinkách" with the original Czech version

The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements and lexical Germanisms into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel Konec punku v Helsinkách by Jaroslav Rudiš and its Polish translation. The theoretical part briefly discusses the literary work of Jaroslav Rudiš, stratification of Czech and Polish national language, colloquial Czech and its use in literature and literary translation, lexical Germanisms in Czech as well as basic issues of translation of literary works. The practical part of the thesis deals with a critical analysis of the Polish translation of the novel by Jaroslav Rudiš regarding the mentioned aspects. The Issues of Translation of Colloquial Czech into Russian (Based on the Examples of the Translation of Josef Škvorecký's Work)

v angličtině: The purpose of this thesis is the study of problems with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements into the Russian language using the comparison of the novels "The Legend Of Emöke" and "The Swell Season" by Josef Švorecký and its Russian translation. The theoretical part focuses on the changing stratification of both languages with a special attention to the present stratification. The description of colloquial Czech and its current position as a Czech language variety is also included, defining the term colloquial Russian and its characteristic. Furthermore the thesis deals with the issue of equivalence, adequacy and translatability from the theoretical and practical point of view. The analysis of the originals and translated novels extracts follows. This part concentrates on the possibilities of substituting Czech colloquial features in the Russian language. Non-Standard Czech in Prosaic Works by Petra Soukupová

The aim of the thesis is to describe non-standard literary devices and their functions in some of Petra Soukupova's prose. On this basis, we will try to define the author's style. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part introduces the artist, her work and position in current Czech literary output. Other chapters are devoted to the stratification and differentiation of Czech language and the examples of colloquial literary devices in literature. This is followed by the practical part - linguistic analysis of selected novels (K moři, Zmizet, Marta v roce vetřelce), which will be the base for the conclusion where all the existing information will be summarized and important findings on the author's style drawn.

Standard Language with Regard to Teaching Czech as a Foreign Language

The dissertation analyses the stratification of Czech in terms of teaching Czech as a foreign language. The general theoretical part relates to teaching Czech as a foreign language or other foreign languages as close as possible. This part also includes the analysis of recordings of authentic communication between Czech speakers and foreigners. The findings of the analysis are subsequently applied to the sample plans of teaching units. The introductory part deals with the history and development of the theory of the standard Czech language and it also presents the attitudes held by the members of the Prague Linguistic Circle, which were published in Spisovná čeština a jazyková kultura (Czech Literary Language and Culture) in 1932. The theoretical part reflects the issue of defining the standard, mentions diglossia and presents a variety of contemporary opinions on future trends in the development of codification. In accordance with its aim, the paper lists the recommendations of benchmark descriptions for Czech as a foreign language and also describes so called Foreigner Talk, including the way foreigners are spoken to by the speakers of Czech. Analysis of the main features of the spoken Prague Czech

The thesis analyses the main features of Spoken Prague Czech. A recently published literature dealing with Common Czech and Spoken Prague Dialect was used as for the starting point and as the basis for the study. The hypothesis is based on the aforementioned literature, which was confirmed by voice recordings of Prague native speakers. The acquired data was compiled by the quantitative sociolinguistic methods. The usage of the following terms was examined bych, bychom vs. bysem, bysme, third person plural of the paradigma prosí trpí sází, dělá diphthongisation -ý into -ej, instrumental endings such as -ami, -ama, -y, the usage of endings -m vs. -me within the verb forms of the first person plural indicative and shortening é into í.
