China - a real threat to U.S. hegemony?
Florková, Barbora ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Parízek, Michal (referee)
The main aim of diploma thesis "China - real threat for American hegemony?" is to answer the question whether China is trying to threaten American position of world hegemon. After the dissolution of USSR and the fall of Iron Curtain USA became the only world superpower. Balance of power theory assumes that the occurrence of leading actor in the system will invoke attempts of others to balance the power of the leader, or to weaken him. In current world political system there are powers whose power potential is growing. One of them is China, mainly because its fast growing and prospering economy. Author of the thesis works with the concept of hegemony based on hard and soft power and three types of exercising of power - three faces of power - as means of achieving its goals. Author analyses Chinese use of hard and soft power resources, that can be classified under three types of use of power. All policies are then examined from "balance of power" theory view. Author tries to find out which one of behavior "balancing" attempts to balance, weaken USA or "bandwagoning" - support of USA is prevailing in Chinese policies. According to the prevailing tendency of Chinese behavior towards USA the author is capable to state whether China can be considered as a threat for US hegemony.
U.S.-India Strategic Partnership as a Balance for China's Increasing Power
Hadrava, Lukáš ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hynek, Nikola (referee)
The master thesis called US-India Strategic Partnership as a Balance for China's Increasing Power examines development of relationship between USA and India in the years 2000-2011. American foreign policy toward India has been transformed in this period; it has evolved from open hostility during Cold War and mistrust in the nineties to the position when it is helping India to gain status of global importance. Improvement of US-India ties are explained by the need of the United States to contain increasing Chinese power. Main arguments of the analysis are based on the realistic balance of power theory, which is further enhanced by the by Joseph Nye's three dimensional concept of power. The thesis therefore distinguishes three different sources of threat to American dominant position caused by China. These sources are following: expanding China's sphere of influence into Indian Ocean and South China Sea; US-China bilateral trade deficit and high amount of American bonds owned by China, challenge to the legitimacy of American power by soft power of China. American efforts to establish cooperation with India in order to balance Chinese influence can be founded in all of these issues. The thesis concludes that motivation of the United States to enter into a strategic partnership with India can be...
Four-cylinder gasoline engine with cylinder deactivation
Steigl, Vladimír ; Kučera, Pavel (referee) ; Píštěk, Václav (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis is design of configuration and balancing of crankshaft which is determined for four-cylinder gasoline engine. The thesis investigates kinematics, dynamics and possible ways of balancing the inertial forces and moments of the rotating and sliding parts of the central crank mechanism. Subsequently, the 3D CAD model is designed according to the presented drawing. It is transformed into a spare torsion system, from which the calculations of its own and forced torsional vibrations are based. The proposed 3D CAD model is then spatially transmitted in the FEA software Ansys Workbench and modified (boundary conditions, etc.) in the FEA software Ansys Mechanical APDL so that it can be calculated according to the selected LSA method. From the selected results of the LSA method, the crankshaft safety factor against fatigue damage is calculated.
Design of linear axis for heavy machine tool
Göbel, Lukáš ; Marek, Jiří (referee) ; Hermanský, Dominik (advisor)
The content of this thesis is the description the various component of the linear feed axis, which are used in heavy duty machine tools. This describes their features, advantages and disadvantages and on these basics, are selected different appropriate design variants. In the second part of this thesis has been drawn up constructional design of these variants. They were subsequently compared and then was chosen the most ideal one for the designed machine, which is heavy machine tool upper gantry type. The work also includes the 3D CAD model of the final version and drawing documentation.
Five-cylinder diesel engine for commercial vehicles
Švarc, Marek ; Kučera, Pavel (referee) ; Píštěk, Václav (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis is the design of the configuration and the method of balancing the crank mechanism with the specified parameters. For a particular configuration, a crankshaft drawing is processed and a strength analysis, considering the crankshaft torsional vibrations is performed in Ansys FEM software. At the end of the thesis, an ideological design of the torsional vibration damper and its effect on the crankshaft stress in the Ansys FEM software is performed.
Three cylinder diesel engine for commercial vehicles
Briš, Tomáš ; Kučera, Pavel (referee) ; Píštěk, Václav (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with a design of a crankshaft for a three-cylinder diesel engine for commercial vehicles. The engine is a member of a unified line of engines with the number of cylinders from two to six. The main points of the work are a draft of the crankshaft configuration, the balance of inertial forces and the moments in the crank mechanism, creation of drawings of the crankshaft and finally carrying out a strength analysis of the part, taking into account torsional vibration. The aim is formation of a part – crankshaft for potential usage in the automotive industry.
Missiles and Radars as Security DilemmaThe Case of the Third Pillar of the U.S. Missile Defence in Central Europe
Kantor, Lukáš ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor)
The thesis deals with the former Bush's plan of the so-called third pillar of the American missile defense system in Poland and Czech republic. We demonstrate on this topic the value of several key (neo)realist theoretical concepts. Specifically, the exact types and functioning of security dilemmas are analyzed in the framework of American-Russian, American-Iranian and American-Czech/Polish relations. The thesis also illustrates the importance of related modalities of deterrence and shows, which states and how balanced the US. In addition to that, attention is paid to the question whether the "shield" was motivated by defensive realist worries about security or rather by offensive realist struggle for power and gains at the expense of others.

Crankshafts design
Tetour, Stanislav ; Drápal, Lubomír (referee) ; Šopík, Lukáš (advisor)
The bachelor´s thesis deals with construction design of crankshafts for combustion engines and comparison of individual configurations of automobile engines. The thesis also discusses technology of manufacturing and surface finishing of crankshafts with list of material for given purposes. The thesis describes reasons for imbalance of engine and possibilities of their balancing.
Monitoring the impact of ultrasonic energy to the leveling of thick film pastes
Pokluda, Tomáš ; Buršík, Martin (referee) ; Řezníček, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the problem of levelling of a profile by ultrasound after printing thick layer pastes and on electrical resistance and geometrical dimensions changes. It describes a creation of hybrid integrated circuits, thick film technology and the screen printing method. It also includes basics of fluid physics, basics of fluid rheology, and description of principles of the used ultrasound transducer. Records of the levelling measurements are presented through the use of photographs, comments, tables and graphs.
