Myth and National Identity

The thesis aims to explore the relationship between national identity and the myth. Key to the analysis are the questions of the manner in which a collective identity becomes dependant on literary narrations as well as the particular motives that constitute these narrations. The analysis of the relationship is carried out in reference to particular literary texts. The discussion is based on the critical approach of literary theory and the analyses of relevant socio-political aspects. The discussion is based on a comparative approach to the chosen literary texts. The comparative method focuses on the socio-political and historical contexts of the literary works, as well as on the different concepts of communal identity portrayed. Key texts to the debate are the collection of poems of James Macpherson, Poems of Ossian, Sir Walter Scott's historical novel, Waverley, and the Czech Manuscripts of Dvůr Králové and Zelená Hora. This thesis commences the discussion with a theoretical approach to the relationship between myth and history. The discussion aims at the manner in which both the mentioned elements constitute collective identity. Identity construction of young migrant generation on the example of Bulgarians in Prague

Goal of the thesis is to describe identity of young generation of imigrants on the example of Bulgarian minority living in Prague. Thesis shows in which way are the bulgarian traditions kept including language and popularization of bulgarian culture in Prague. The first part of the work is focused on basic terms that are relevant for the subject. The terms are: etnicity, identity, nationalism and nation, integration and acculturation, ethnical space, minority. In theoretical part you will be also acustomed with a composition of minorities in Czech Republic. Following that the focus will be placed at bulgarian minority in Prague and its main cultural specifics. Goal of the second part is to give an idea of young Bulgarians in Prague and reveal in which way their identities are shaped. Practical part is based on research conducted by author. Research consists of semistandardized interviews with members of bulgarian community, aged 18-29 years, who live in Prague.
Tosks and Ghegs in Albania and their perception of Albanians in neighboring countries

This thesis aims to examine ethnic identity of Albanians both inside and outside of Albania. This thesis is based on field research and qualitative research conducted in Albania and Kosovo. The thesis follows several basic ethnic differentiation characters and their relevance in the construction of ethnic identities selected groups living in Albania and Kosovo. The work is focused on the question of language, religion, historical memory, politics, ethnic stereotypes and perceptions of ethnic itself.
Racial prejudice of social workers

This thesis is focus on attitudes of social workers to racial prejudice, especially in personal and professional life. The theoretical part defines the main terms within topic of work, such as race, prejudice, social worker and describes differences between terms of race, ethnicity and nation. The practical part is processed by quantitative method, namely by questionnaire survey. The social workers from the employment offices and from Non-Governmental Organization in Vysočina region are the respondents of survey. After that the obtained data are analyzed and interpreted. Though the social workers can not express officially their racial or other prejudice in their profession, their point of view on this social problem can be different in their personal life. Then it depends only on how professional they can be in their specialization.
Proces adaptace zahraničních studentů MENDELU na českou kulturu

This bachelor thesis deals with the process of adaptation of foreign students at Mendel University to a different cultural environment. The thesis is mainly focused on the ability of foreign students to participate in daily life in a foreign culture. The theoretical part deals with the basic concepts and knowledge that are closely linked to this topic. The literature review mainly refers to two key experts on this field of study, J. W. Berry and Geert Hofstede. The case study deals with the research, which was conducted by 41 foreign students of Mendel University from nineteen different countries. The research was conducted using the Cross-Cultural Adaptability Inventory, which is used to rate the strengths and adaptability weaknesses of individuals. The results of this research are used to measure the ability of foreign students to cope with environmental changes and interactions with different mentalities, different habits and traditions.
The role of the diplomacy by asserting of the national interest: Tibet (case study)

The term "National interest" is used very often and in different contexts. Frequently is connected with the sentence:" The aim of our policy is to protect national interests." What actually is national interest? Who decides about it? By which means are national interests asserted? In the first chapter of this thesis are defined following terms: the nation, the state, the ethnic group, the national identity and character. The second chapter is focused on national interest and its different interpretation by basic theoretic approaches of the International relations. The third part works with the term "Diplomacy", particularly with public and cultural diplomacy, which is one of the tools of asserting national interest. In the last chapter are all the findings about the national interest and diplomacy applied on the particular example, Tibet, which is nowadays one of the focuses of tension in the world. To contextualize the issue, I also introduced briefly the history of Tibet, Tibet-China relations, the great powers 'view and the Dalai Lama, who is both the highest spiritual and also mundane leader in Tibet, great diplomat, upholder of the Tibetan's national interest and the human rights in generally.
Right of Nations to Self-Determination: Catalonia

This bachelor thesis analyzes the right of nations to self-determination on the example of Spain's autonomous region of Catalonia, which has been showing increasing separatist tendencies over the past few years. The first part presents the evolution of the right of nations to self-determination and discusses the ultimate subject of this right. For that matter, the thesis distinguishes between the terms state, nation, nationality, ethnic group and national minority. The thesis also defines the contents of the right of nations to self-determination and differentiates between its internal and external aspect. Second part of the thesis elaborates on the identity of the Catalan population with regards to the common characteristics of nations, as defined in Chapter 1. The final part contemplates about the admissibility of Catalonia's secession from Spain as an expression of its external self-determination and its potential implications for both Catalonia and the international community.
Vliv kurdské menšiny na úroveň bezpečnostní a politické stability Turecka

Aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse available sources, published at the level of national and international organizations discussing the Kurdish minority problematics and its influence on security and political stability of Turkey. Changing levels of stability and security is analysed by amount of attacks and victims during activity of The Kurdistan Worker's Party. Problematics of the Kurdish minority is summarized using the SWOT analysis method and its results help to create predictions and suggestions for future solutions.
Návrh výukového materiálu pro střední odbornou školu v rámci multikulturní oblasti se zaměřením na mongolskou národnost

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is to focus on teaching of themes which are connected with multicultural education at secondary schools and at the same time to propose measures for pedagogical practice which will have a beneficial effect on specific school. In theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis, the current situation of multicultural education together with main goals and content of multicultural education will be presented. Subsequently the basic segments of multicultural education will be clarified. The method of theoretical part will be analysis, synthesis and comparison of professional resources. The theoretical part will be followed by the empirical part. The main goal of the empirical part is to suggest the educational project within multicultural theme for selected secondary school in Blansko. The topic of the educational project concetrates on Mongolian nationality. There is a great number of Mongols living in Blansko.
