Pojem "Národní zájem" je používán velice často a v různých souvislostech. Často je spojen s větou: "Cílem naší politiky je hájit národní zájmy." Co to jsou národní zájmy? Kdo rozhoduje o tom, jaké zájmy jsou národní? Jak se národní zájmy prosazují? V první části práce definuji pojmy národ, stát, etnikum, národní identita a charakter. Druhá část je zaměřena na národní zájem a na jeho rozdílné pojetí ze stran základních teoretických koncepcí mezinárodních vztahů. Třetí část pracuje s pojmem diplomacie, především s veřejnou a kulturní diplomacií, jako s jedním z nástrojů prosazení národního zájmu. V poslední části aplikuji poznatky o národním zájmu a diplomacii jako prostředku jeho prosazení na konkrétní příklad, tedy na Tibet, jedno z aktuálních ohnisek napětí ve světě. Abych problematiku národního zájmu a lidských práv v Tibetu zasadila do kontextu, krátce jsem se věnovala i historii země, vzájemným Tibetsko-čínským vztahům, postoji světových velmocí k problému a zaměřila jsem se i na osobnost 14. dalajlamy, jakožto nejvyššího duchovního i světského představitele tibetské diplomacie a důležitého zastánce tibetského národního zájmu a lidských práv obecně. The term "National interest" is used very often and in different contexts. Frequently is connected with the sentence:" The aim of our policy is to protect national interests." What actually is national interest? Who decides about it? By which means are national interests asserted? In the first chapter of this thesis are defined following terms: the nation, the state, the ethnic group, the national identity and character. The second chapter is focused on national interest and its different interpretation by basic theoretic approaches of the International relations. The third part works with the term "Diplomacy", particularly with public and cultural diplomacy, which is one of the tools of asserting national interest. In the last chapter are all the findings about the national interest and diplomacy applied on the particular example, Tibet, which is nowadays one of the focuses of tension in the world. To contextualize the issue, I also introduced briefly the history of Tibet, Tibet-China relations, the great powers 'view and the Dalai Lama, who is both the highest spiritual and also mundane leader in Tibet, great diplomat, upholder of the Tibetan's national interest and the human rights in generally.
