Tománková, Zuzana ; Eichler, Jan (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with comparison of two regimes in the Arab Republic of Egypt, namely with the reigns of Hosni Mubarak and Mohamed Morsi. The first chapter analyses the internal factors as the objects of comparison: legitimacy and the status of army. The second chapter is concerned with the group of external factors, including the foreign policy of Egypt towards the region and towards the USA, since the relationship with the USA has been a long-term determinant of Egypt's foreign policy towards the region. The biggest difference between the two regimes is considered to be embodied in the position of army, particularly regarding its relationship with the presidents. Moreover, there are diverse origins of legitimacy of the regimes and causes of its loss. On the other hand, foreign policy of Egypt did not get through distinctive changes.
Intervention in Afghanistan: Soviet and American experience
Tzoumas, Janis ; Matějka, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
This diploma thesis analyzes the approach of the Soviet Union and that of the US-led coalition to state-building in Afghanistan, which today, as in the past, takes place against the backdrop of counterinsurgency warfare. The analysis in the field of politics, economy and security shows that in both cases the intervening powers have focused on building a strongly centralized system of government, in spite of the fact that the Afghan countryside's relationship to the Kabul-based government had traditionally been characterized by broad autonomy. The intervening powers' efforts have futhermore been associated with the export of exogenous political structures and for this reason attention is also drawn to the question to what extent the intervening powers' approach to the modernization of Afghan society has contributed to the escalation of unrelenting conflict.

If EU decision-making is to be considered legitimate, it is necessary to create a European public sphere, that would control the policy of the EU. In the first part of the work, the thesis deals with the assumptions, forms, and conditions of the creation of a European public sphere. The work justified the view that the formation of a European public sphere is possible and the conditions of its creation are determined. In the second part of this thesis, the political news of Czech public television CT and German public television ZDF are reviewed. CT currently broadcasts more programs concerning the EU and European issues are expressed with better quality. Both CT and ZDF inform the public about what is happening in the EU from a national perspective and in their programs, they do not discuss the specifics of EU policy.
