The effect of political decisions on GDP: Can poverty be solved politically?

This thesis examines whether democracy leads to economic development. GDP graphs are used as indicators of economic development, Polity IV's graphs as indicators of the political situation in the respective country. Three Subsaharan countries are examined: Nigeria as a country that prospers thanks to its mineral supplies, Ghana as one of the developed countries in Subsaharan Africa and Zimbabwe as an autocratic country ruled by a dictator. Links between democracy and economic development have been proved fully in Ghana, partially in Zimbabwe and the Nigerian economy is dependant on the world oil prices more than on its democratic development.
Sub-Saharan Africa: infectious diseases as barriers of development

The Sub-Saharan Africa region is a part of world with great growth potential. On the other hand it is a region which has always have to solve the same problems of its development - poverty, illiteracy, indebtness etc. Most serious causes of limited development of human capital are health conditions of african population. Even in comparison with other developing regions the prevalence of infectious diseases is pretty high. Infectious diseases effect african society in its demographic, social and economic profile. Their importance is caused not only by direct consequences and costs of their high prevalence. Long-term impact on social structure poses much more serious challenge for future development of the region. Initially, the work describes general development trends in the Sub-Saharan African region. The second part focuses on particular infectious diseases, their prevalence and impact on society. The last chapter is focused on situation in Ghana - health profile of its population and current reforms that show possible future development of health financing policy in african countries.
Educational Systems in Ghana - selected issues

The first chapter describes the political and economic development in Ghana and its impact on the creation of the formal educational system since the first european invasion on the african continent and the beginnings of colonialism until the end of 1990's. The second chapter analyses current educational system, especially its newly reformed structure and functioning. The third chapter concentrates on the two main problems of the educational system in Ghana, which are child labour and low quality of education.
The Position of the grouping ECOWAS in International Trade

ECOWAS is the integration grouping of 15 West African countries. The first chapter deals with the history, geography, demography and economic situation of the grouping. The main objective of this bachelor thesis was to analyze position of West Africa in international trade and identify the expected development in the future. Last chapter is devoted to 4 representative Member States of ECOWAS - Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia.

Millenium development goals - development towards the goals in Ghana

Millenium development goals project is the key topic of the diploma paper. This project was started in 2000 and belongs to the responsibility od the UN. There are eight key development areas-goals set in the project. This goals should be met by 2015. The diploma paper is focused on the development of each of the goal in the West African country Ghana. There are two parts. First part focuses on the economic, cultural, historical and demografical description of the country. Second part is aimed at the Millenium project. The global trends are decribed at the beginning and the development towards the goals in Ghana is described in details in the following text.

Obsahem diplomové práce je analýza podnikatelského prostředí Ghany, jejích obchodních zvyklostí a kulturních specifik a dopadů těchto specifik na podnikání v zemi; kromě toho se práce zabývá i obchodní spoluprací této subsaharské země s Českou republikou. Hlavním cílem je analyzovat podmínky obchodu mezi těmito zeměmi a nalézt příležitosti pro další prohloubení a rozvoj vzájemných obchodních vztahů. V závěru se práce dotýká i problematiky obchodních vztahů EU a subsaharské Afriky.

Ten je posléze aplikován na případovou studii, která se koncentruje na země Subsaharské Afriky ? Ghanu, Ugandu a Botswanu.
