Volák, Jiří ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Skálová, Barbora (referee)
The Paasikivi's "Horrible Years" 1944-1948 Jiří Volák Abstract Finland did not become a Soviet satellite after the World War II, despite that many preconditions were in favor of such development. The country was defeated and, as stated in the Moscow Armistice of 1944, obliged to cede its territories and to pay severe war indemnities to the Soviet Union. Firstly, the thesis approaches domestic roots which led to this absolutely unique international position of Finland during the early Cold War years. The main goal is to map a role that Finnish Prime Minister and later President Juho Kusti Paasikivi had in securing and maintaining the surprising "Finnish path." Of what ideology he profited? Could he be compared to President Edvard Beneš of Czechoslovakia? Both primary and secondary sources are being used. According to the conclusions, Paasikivi was highly responsible for preservation of the Finnish democracy. Secondly, the significance of a Czechoslovak coup d'état is not omitted. Fear of a similar fate had a great influence on the Finnish society in the year 1948, while Agreement of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance between Finland and Soviet Union (YYA-sopimus) was negotiated. The result created a legal base of Finno- Soviet relation for forty years to come and the "Years of Danger", as Finnish...

Pisková, Petra ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis, February 1948 in printed non-communist media, analyses newscast and journalism of the four prominent journals since the 1st February till 14th March 1948. It has been Svobodné slovo, Právo lidu and Lidová demokracie which were the fundamental journals of the three governing parties, and Svobodné noviny which followed the tradition of Lidové noviny. Method of qualitative historical comparative analysis was used for the data processing. In the diploma thesis, the changes in information giving during the changing political situation and succession of communism are evaluated. The outcome of this thesis is the finding that Svobodné slovo, Právo lidu a Lidová demokracie often break the principles of objectivity. On the contrary, Svobodné noviny maintains the highest standard of journalism. All four daily newspapers initially inform negativelly on political actions of KSČ. However, the content of the newspapers changes fundamentally within several days. Since 26th of February onwards, all of them represent KSČ as a political party that lead the state out of crisis. In all the newspapers that have been under observation of this thesis the opinion turnover took place during just a few days. The legitimization of the new regime became a topic of great importance.

Mludek, Ivo ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Nekola, Martin (referee)
The phenomenon of political marketing entered - together with democratic political competition - the Czech Republic after 1989. Together with parliamentary elections in 2006 a strong negative election campaigns appeared. The parliamentary elections in 2007 proved a stalemate and they launched a long period of political instability. An unusually sharp and mostly negative election campaign proceeded in the Czech Republic continuously during the years 2006 - 2010. For the first time foreign advisory firms prepared strategies for the biggest political parties - ČSSD and ODS. The election campaigns were characteristic not only of mass enter of negativism imported by the foreign consultants, but also of a great number of anonymous mocking and defamatory political advertisements, the customer and the payer of which was unknown and unable to find. The negative campaigns then introduced both the question of ethical limits in the election marketing and of the harmful influence of opaqueness in contracting and financing the campaigns. The thesis is dealing with regularities of political marketing which got control of Czech political scene in 2006 - 2010, and it formulates hypotheses about the possible effecs of negative, defamatory and mocking political campaigns on the environment of Czech public politics.
