The Concept of the Cave and the Theory of All Art

The text is based on the well-known fact that in the 18th century a merging of garden theory and architectural theory occurred, and raises the question of how the theory of architecture and the theory of gardens came to be linked. In the author’s view, the two theories were brought closer by the attempt at that time to create a universal theory of all art forms as advocated by Johann Wolfgang Goethe.

The Media as a Theme in the Arts Across the History of the Czech Media

Like newspapers, books, cinema or music, fine art is a medium of human communication, and the carrier of a message. Its role as a specific means of communication has transformed throughout history, along with the role of mass media. Before the rise of mass communications across all of society, this function was to some degree facilitated by works of art. A work of art is itself a medium of communication, while at the same time it can also represent other media - in various stages of the evolution of arts and culture the mass media themselves became the subject of art. This can be defined as the meta-communication of one medium with another. The present dissertation focuses on the research and work of Czech artists engaged with visualizing the means of mass-media communication (periodicals, radio, television) and its actors (the recipients and producers of media content). The relevant works of art for this thesis (paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures) are the focus of a qualitative analysis resulting in an overview of the evolution of this subject matter since the advent of mass media, i.e., from the emergence of the first printed periodicals to the 1960s. Bachelor thesis Body as a canvas - paint on the body in fine arts and art education Markéta Svobodová, duben 2018 ABSTRACT My work begins with the mapping of the transformation of the ideal of beauty and the controversy with this concept. I describe the history of the makeup including the technological and social background of this phenomenon. I also introduce selected works from the history of fine arts, where color is important on the body or on the face. Then I formally transform selected works from art history into forms in which the human body and color will be the main key component. Finally, I reflect this topic into the art, where I focus mainly on portraiture.
