Use of Loanwords in contemporary Norwegian and Dutch

The subject of the thesis is to appraise the situation of the extent and the way of use of English loanwords in Norwegian and Dutch. The issue is presented on the background of historical development of borrowing in these languages and also explained in the contemporary tendency of English words usage in non-English speaking countries. To document the official attitude of Norwegian and Dutch media to loanwords we add the results of survey among the particular editors. On the basis of loanwords principles in Norwegian and Dutch, presented in the theoretical part, we assess the English loanwords in particular articles published in Norwegian and Dutch Internet news journals. The attention is aimed to the general analysis of English loanwords in Norwegian and Dutch, to the analysis of the domains noticeably influenced by the loans and to the morphological and orthographical integration of loanwords in the monitored languages. The outcomes of each analysis for Norwegian and Dutch are compared and interpreted. Key words: English, borrowing, Dutch, journalistic style, loanwords, Norwegian

V závěru se věnuje samotnému porovnávání odborných elektroinženýrských a informačně technologických textů a jejich následné analýze.

Druhá část se věnuje praktickému využití anglického jazyka jako lingua franca v mezinárodních společnostech a zvažuje tři z nejrozšířenějších žánrů obchodní komunikace. English-Czech Sign Language Interpreting at Czech Universities

This bachelor thesis deals with interpretation between the English language and Czech Sign Language in a university environment. The theoretical basis of the thesis defines the necessary terminology and the working languages of the interpreter, and it describes interpreting into an active foreign language and interpreting between two foreign languages, the possibilities of professional preparation and professional employability of interpreters of the English language and Czech Sign Language, as well as online interpreting and its use in university lectures. The research part focuses on a specific interpreting situation, i.e. an online lecture of foreign linguist of sign languages interpreted from the English language to Czech Sign Language. The aim of the research part was to describe a situation in interpreting between the English language and Czech Sign Language in a university environment using structured interviews with open questions conducted with someone who orders an interpretation, a foreign lecturer and interpreters and visitors of a lecture - some of whom were deaf and some of whom were hearing. Analysis of English and French True Friends (Vrais Amis) in a Corpus of Authentic Text Samples

This PhDr. dissertation provides a parole analysis of vrais amis (true counterparts) in current French and current English. To this end a specialized English-French translation corpus was assembled, composed of three subcorpora equal in length, namely Religious, Political and Fiction discourse, amounting altogether to approximately 60,000 words. With the help of the AntConc computer tool, true friends employed in the corpus were generated, here conceived of as a register-specific phenomenon exclusively. Using the frequency criteria, a "central setˮ of 64 most frequent counterparts was delineated. These central counterparts, marked by (almost) identical frequencies, identical contexts and the same registers, were subjected to a multiaspectual analysis, scrutinizing the pronunciation, spelling, word classes, share of derivation, and frequency of both, the types and the tokens. Since English proved to be the borrowing language in all instances, the research also indirectly addressed the degree of their integration in the English lexicon by reference to frequency bands. For most of the researched aspects, three zones of counterparts were identified, namely those exhibiting identity, close similarity and relative difference. Teaching English through drama methods

This bachelor´s thesis deals with teaching English as a foreign language at primary school. This thesis summarizes methodological approaches to teaching foreign languages, describing and comparing the predominant methods of drama education and teaching English. Furthermore the thesis describes and compares educational and dramatic games. Later, this bachelor´s thesis explores the application of specific methods of drama education (for example role playing game, pantomime and improvisation) in specific English lessons. Thus, this thesis provides examples of using specific drama methods in teaching English.
