Motivations behind the naming of descendents, and the changes in such naming throughout generations

Résumé The topic of this paper is a survey into the motivations behind the naming of descendents, and the changes in such naming throughout generations. The survey found that when choosing names for their children, parents take into account various factors. The level of influence of these factors undergoes a change throughout time. 396 samples (children) were obtained for assessment from a total of 212 respondents (parents). The aforementioned children were born within the period commencing in the 1940s and stretching up to the present time - 2011. Altogether, it could be said that the sound of the name itself influences the naming process the most. This is closely followed by aspects of agreement between first name and Christian name, semantics of the specific name and family tradition. All motivations have undergone some degree of change throughout time. The most notable changes are a permanent fall in the influence of family tradition and a permanent rise in other categories of influence. Among the latter we can find those concerning the sound of the name, agreement with Christian name, and semantics of the name. WHAT WILL BE HIS/HER NAME? MOTIVATION FOR NAMING OFFSPRING Abstract The thesis deals with given names in general and in particular with motivation of parents to choice of name. The first part summarizes theoretical resources and deals with the history of researching of antroponyms. The first part further concentrates on given names, their origin, their function, variation of repertory and trends in motivation of parents to choice of name. The thesis also includes the chapter about legal regulation of given names. There is mentioned also the previous research on given names written by Miloslava Knappová in 1970's. The practical part of the thesis is based on questionnaire research on motivation of parents to choice of name. The research was carried out in Central - Bohemia Region, Liberec Region and Prague Region from December 2010 to February 2011 and respondents were the parents of children born between years 2005 - 2010. The aim of the research was to ascertain current trends and motivation to choice of name, which reasons are the most frequent and which reasons decrease in historical comparison. Minor Place-names in the Žďársko Region

This bachelor thesis contains 190 minor place-names from a part of the Žďársko region. Three types of minor place-names, which correspond to the three main chapters, are examined: hydronyms, oronyms and land names. The minor place-names belonging to a given group are listed alphabetically in each section. Each name is given the type of geographical unit and sources from which it was read out. The main objective of this work is to determine the origin of the examined anoikonyms. This research deals with word formation analysis and distribution of minor place-names into groups according to their significance. Various methods of collection, analysis and interpretation of the collected data were applied to create this work. A number of different printed materials, journals and internet resources were used to explain all the examined entries. It was necessary to attend an interview with witnesses or experts in the discipline of analysis, too.
French idioms containing proper nouns and their Czech equivalents

The theme of the presented bachelor thesis are French idioms containing proper nouns and their Czech equivalents. The first part of this thesis provides an introduction to the principles and foundations of phraseology and idiomatics. Firstly, the basic terminology is defined and then the main formal and semantic characteristics of phrasemes and idioms are described. The second part analyses selected sample of onomastic idioms from formal, semantic and translatological aspect. This thesis aims at finding Czech equivalents for French idioms and evaluate the level of their equivalence.
Family names in Sokolov

Toponyms of the Ecoregion Úhlava in the linguistic aspect

This bachelor thesis focuses in its broader meaning of the term on onomastics, which is a study of proper names. More specifically, it focuses on toponomastics, one of its principal branches, the study of place names. The thesis is divided into two parts. First theoretical part explains both terms and it introduces the latest discoveries on this field. Second part focuses on particular area, more precisely on Ecoregion Úhlava. The survey itself describes 9 local villages which this concrete region consists of. The aim is to explain local expression and compare their recent names to the former ones. Furthermore, it contains basic statistical data and the history of these places.
Toponyms of the Microregion Podkletí

The topic of this bachelor thesis are the place-names (oikonyms) of the microregion Podkletí. The theoretical part describes toponymy as a linguistic discipline including it´s short history. It also mentions Vladimír Šmilauer´s and Rudolf Šrámek´s methodological approaches to examine oikonyms. In the practical part we are going to apply these classifications on concrete place-names in the examined area. We are going to take up interest in the distribution of word-forming types and whether it corresponds with the general preconditions.
Toponyms in the microregion of Milevsko

This thesis is dealing with place names of selected villages in the microregion of Milevsko and neighboring village called Křenovice in the former distric Písek. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part contains theoretical knowledge from onomastics (related to) toponymy, i.e. the study of place names, their origins, meanings and use. The second part applies theoretical knowledge to the local names of Milevsko microregion. It provides a brief statistical data, explains the origins of names of selected villages and their history, etc. It also describes local names, i.e. names of fields, meadows, forests, roads, etc in the area of Křenovice. The thesis as a whole is a contribution to the toponymy in the microregion of Milevsko.

The topic of my bachelor´s thesis are names of populated places, toponyms or oikonyms too. The thesis has two parts. The first part contains theoretical know ledgewhich are related to toponomastics. It deals with local and afterlocal proper nouns. The second part of my thesis applies the know ledge, which were acquired in the theoretical part, of the group of 22 districts of Vimperk. Firstly, it is explained theorigin of the name Vimperk, than followed there ading of the names of villages which come under the land register. The aim of my bachelor´s thesis is to collect, explain and specify the localnoun sof the selected cadastral area.
French translation of Prague toponyms

This thesis deals with french translations of Prague toponyms. The first part contains a brief description of onomastics and toponomastics. Next, the term place names (toponyms) is defined. Afterwards this part is dedicated to the classification and the translation of toponyms. The next part of thesis is focused on the analysis of particular translations of prague place names. Firstly, they are divided into seven groups and then the terms are analysed from two different perspectives : translatological analysis and culturally - historical analysis. The aim of first analysis is to determine the translated terms from view of the six translation procedures. The second part observes the culturally - historical context of names which is also important in translation. The bilingual dictionary of analysed terms is attached at the end of the thesis.
