Psychosocial load at work of nurses and social workers
KUŘÁTKOVÁ, Lucie
The Thesis deals with the questions of psychosocial load at work for nurses and social workers. The Thesis is divided into two sections. The theoretical part deals with definitions of terms like caring professions, load and stress, then load at work and psychosocial load. There is also a brief characteristic of the professions of a nurse and a social worker. The aim of the empiric part was to find out on a selected sample of respondents (i.e. nurses and social workers) how the respondents perceive the character of their psychosocial load at work and whether they are at risk of burnout syndrome, to find out whether nurses or social workers perceive the psychosocial load more intensely and whether there is a difference in the risk of burnout syndrome between them. A quantitative questioning method and questionnaire technique were applied on data collection and processing in the research part of the Thesis. An anonymous questionnaire was used for the investigation. The questionnaire preparation was based on a questionnaire provided by my thesis guide. The original questionnaire was more extensive and was only designed for nurses, which was why I had to select suitable items and add some special items applicable on nurses as well as social workers. The questionnaire consisted mainly of closed questions where the respondents chose from five answers the one best corresponding with their own opinion. I set 3 hypotheses before starting the research itself. The questionnaire answers were processed both, manually by means of the stroke method and by a statistic programme SPSS. Segment and bar graphs in Microsoft Office Excel were used for graphical interpretation of the results. After evaluation of the questionnaire research results I found out that the previously set hypothesis H1 suggesting that nurses and social workers perceive various elements of their psychosocial load differently, was confirmed, hypothesis H2 suggesting that nurses are more loaded by the work with patients/clients than social workers was not confirmed, and hypothesis H3 suggesting that nurses are at higher risk of burnout syndrome than social workers was confirmed. The results of my thesis may serve to inform general public as well as professionals on the problems in question. They may also serve as a possible incentive for managerial staff to pay higher attention to the problems of psychosocial load at work among caring professions at individual medical care facilities. The results may also serve as a base for further studies and research in the field.
Coping with nurses´stress
PAPEŽOVÁ, Marta
The present bachalor{\crq}s thesis focuses on mental stress management among nurses working in departments of surgery and internal medicine. Today, when the health care has become more and more demanding in terms of professional expertise and social skills, this issue cannot be omitted. The thesis tries to observe the methods used by nurses in order to cope with mental stress while performing their job, it analyzes how such stress may influence the health care given, and lastly it tries to find out what the nurses are missing so that they can manage the mental stress. The survey was carried out by way of quantitative method. The data were collected from questionnaires. The survey focused on the target groups of nurses in the surgery departments in hospitals in Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, and Pelhřimov, and in the department of internal medicine in the same hospitals. First, there were defined three hypotheses. The survey outcome showed that the nurses in question give preference to using effective strategies in order to manage stressful situations than using inefficient and ineffective ones. They often make an effort to analyze the situation rationally and if needed, they ask for help, which proves correct the first hypothesis: Nurses try to analyze the situation objectively and solve the problem effectively. Most nurses are sure that the mental stress often influences the quality of the health care provided, that it has a negative impact on the relations with patients and communication between them and health care staff. The survey also found out that nurses who are mentally stressed out make mistakes. This proves the second hypothesis: Mental stress has a negative impact on the health care provided by nurses. The third hypothesis presumed that a lack of health care staff is the main cause for mental stress among nurses. This hypothesis has not been confirmed. The conclusion found out that all nurses lack auxiliary staff, qualified nurses, and quality personal background; some nurses also lack technical equipment, interest shown by management in their mental health, and enough relaxation because of time stress. Alarming number of nurses stated they increasingly do not find their work meaningful which leads to long-term feelings of exhaustion. A few nurses added that such situation makes them feel negative towards co-workers and clients which might be related to burnout syndrome. The outcome of the survey shall be handed to nurses in the departments of surgery and internal medicine in all hospitals to provoke more thoughts and also to the managements for further feedback and possible improvements in working conditions so that the nurses are healthier and the quality of health care better.
Abuse of power against clients by professional staff in care facilities.
KUPSOVÁ, Jitka
The objective of my dissertation work titled ``Abuse of power against clients by professional staff in care facilities{\crqq} is to establish whether the ethical codes are observed in the social and health care institutions providing accommodation services to their clients. Another objective of the work is to find out whether the employers running these institutions take adequate measures to prevent the burnt-out syndrome in their employees. The theoretical part of the work deals with the philosophical and ethical aspects in the client-employee relationship, defines various forms of aggression, its root causes and symptoms as experienced among the staff caring for the clients. It also summarises legal aspects of human rights violations in caring homes. The research part of the work summarises the findings acquired in the field survey using the questionnaires filled in by the staff working in the social and health care institutions accommodating clients in the district of Tábor. It is focused on their opinions, expertise and willingness to adhere to the quality standards and code of ethics, on the quality and type of the relationship with their clients and the ability to cope with the everyday challenges posed by their jobs. It also tries to identify the quality of communication between the management and the employees, the level of satisfaction at work and the possible prevention of the burnt-out syndrome. The staff employed in the social and health care institutions should refrain from any type of aggression and should always prefer standard means of communication as an inherent part of their professional conduct. To improve the ability to deal with potential conflicts and also as a preventive measure the psychological and therapeutic training is recommended. The recommendation aimed at the employers includes the development of human resources, their professional and personal development based on life-long learning in order to improve the communication between the management and employees, prevent the exhaustion by work overload and support the relaxation and leisure time activities of the staff. The outcome of the dissertation could help to improve the quality of care provided by professionals in the institutions accommodating clients and it could also provide some useful ideas how to improve the performance of the assisting staff in these institutions.
Prerequisites for the work of nurses in a hospice
KNĚŽKOVÁ, Klára
The philosophy of our hospices is the human and professional attitude, also team work of all caring. It focuses on ensuring the quality of life in incurably ill until its end. Hospices are slowly getting into people ´s minds; they are becoming the part of care. Yet, general opinion of healthcare workers, also nurses, is still distorted. It is often said that mostly believers or those who do not have sufficient feeling of satisfaction in their personal life go to work in hospices. The view of these nurses on dying could have been changed by education, the more profound study of the problems concerning the care for dying. The thesis is focused on nurses in hospice care. The aim was to find out the real motivation of nurses who decided to work in a hospice. The next aim was to find out if the education of nurses influences their attitudes to the care of ill and dying. Three hypotheses were stated: Religious persuasion is a crucial factor for the nurse ´s choice to work in hospice. The work in hospice is sought out by nurses in connection to the failures in their personal lives. The attitude of nurses to the care of terminally ill depends on their education.Research group was created by 107 nurses from all Czech from sick-bed hospices (including manager nurses). The form of quantitative research by questionnaire method was used. The results of the research might be used for the understanding of nurse role development in palliative and hospice care and for the creating of nurse profile in hospice care. Further, it can contribute to the creation of standard requirements on nurses who are recruited to a hospice.

Influence of stress upon the quality of the provided nursing care at the emergency ambulances.
JAMBOROVÁ, Lenka
I have selected the topic of my bachelor thesis ``The effect of stress on quality of nursing care provided by nurses in acute care facilities`` as I have been always interested in work of nurses in acute care facilities and in mental demands imposed on nurses as a result of such work. Stress is a set of responses by the organism to internal and external impulses, which disturb regular functioning of the organism; stress is an individual response to excessive physical, emotional or intellectual requirements . Communication is viewed as a significant aspect in healthcare. It is a fundamental and integral part of healthcare provided by nurses. Effective communication favorably contributes to recovery of patients as it alleviates fear and confusion and helps to mitigate anxiety and stress. Although we sometime fail to realize that, we assess patients immediately after they arrival to the surgery. We notice whether the patient communicates, whether he/she is nervous, whether his/her appearance is neat and we can see that the patient is in a wheelchair or on crotches. The current nursing standards require a nurse to be a recognized expert in her independent sphere of action. The burnout syndrome is described as a condition of mental and physical exhaustion, most frequently observed in the so-called helping professions. In Czech literature the burnout syndrome has been most frequently mentioned in connection with persons in nursing professions, where the work consists of serving to other people. In the research for my bachelor thesis I have used a qualitative survey using inquiry with a questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed for nurses working in acute care facilities. The survey was conducted in hospitals in České Budějovice, Jindřichův Hradec, Prague Motol, in a psychiatric institution in Jihlava and outpatient clinic in Telč, always subject to approvals granted by the respective head nurses. This thesis sought to find out whether the stress influences the quality of nursing care provided by nurses in acute care facilities. All the three hypotheses - number 1: Stress affects quality of the provided nursing care; number 2: Stress affects health condition of nurses in acute care facilities; and number 3: Good team at the workplace favorably influences work in acute care facilities - have been confirmed . This means that the objective of the work has been achieved. My thesis may be used as a supporting source material for education of medical personnel in hospital practice.
Demans put on nurses work when providing nursing care on hemodialysis department.
KADLEČKOVÁ, Aneta
Abstrakt In our Bachelor Diploma Work we dealt with the problems of the difficult of the work of nurses in the department of haemodialysis. We have chosen this topic because of the growing higher demands made on the nurses. It can be said that the profession of a nurse is very demanding, they are even jeopardized both by the psychological and physical influences. Because of that there are several advices the nurses should know and observe them. The professional literature encourages the nurses in the department of haemodialysis to find at lest a short moment to learn how to rest and to relax. Unfortunately it is not like that in reality. In the theoretical part we focused on the haemodialysis characteristics, on its indications, contra-indications, on the nursing care in this department and naturally on the psychological and physical impacts on the nurses in the department of haemodialysis. For the research investigation I used a semi-structured discussion. It contained 21 questions, the nurses had to answer. The data collection took place during March 2009. The total numer of enquired nurses was 16. The topic was based on the three targets. To find out what demands have been made on the treatment care for the patiens in the department of haemodialysis, to find out, what impact the care has on nurses in the department of haemodialysis and to find out whether the nurses in the department of haemodialysis suffer from the burn-out syndrome. Based on my Bachelor Diploma Work we would like to organize a seminary for the nurses, working in the department of haemodialysis, focused on the burn-out syndrome and correct relaxation.
