Reducing the operating temperature of the production and laying of asphalt mixtures
Komenda, Radek ; Valentin,, Jan (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The subject of this thesis is the issue of reduction of the operating temperatures in the production and laying asphalt mixtures with a more specific focus on influencing the functional properties of these mixtures, especially low-temperature parameters. The thesis is notionally divided into two parts. The first part refers to the low-temperature asphalt mixtures and the second part pays the attention to asphalt mixtures with an added R-material. For production of asphalt mixtures in the first part of thesis were used five additives and for the second part were used a total of four different asphalt mixtures which differs in the participation of added R-material. Both parts are divided into a theoretical part, which discusses the existing experience, the use of these mixtures and the practical part, which analyses in detail the tested mixture ( the composition and preparation of tested specimens ) and deals with the result of laboratory test. In particular, it is a test of asphalt mixture resistance against the formation of frost cracks according to ČSN EN 12697-46 and by comparing the individual mixtures in comparison with the reference sample and among each other.
The influence of cold RAP addition on the resulting temperature of the asphalt mixture
Bocák, Tomáš ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to simulate the effect of dosing cold reclaimed asphalt into a hot aggregate mixture, under laboratory conditions. The theoretical part will describe the possibilities of reclaimed asphalt dosing in the production of asphalt mix, together with the principles for the design of a new asphalt mix. In the practical part, by my proposed procedure, the cold portion of aggregate will be mixed with the hot portion of aggregate. The measurements will result in the final aggregate mixture temperatures and their comparison.
Recycling of asphalt mixtures for low-traffic roads
Musil, Lukáš ; Dašek, Ondřej (referee) ; Varaus, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with 100% pure recycling by method of hot mix asphalt recycling using a rejuvenating additive (so-called rejuvenator) for the device development in cooperation with an external company. The aim of bachelor's thesis is to determine the amount of dosing of the rejuvenator and to determine the compaction temperature for the processing the asphalt mixture. On the basis of determining the properties of the reclaimed asphalt pavement, by means of tests in the laboratory. According to the determined properties of the reclaimed asphalt pavement, the percentage of rejuvenator required to achieve the required properties of the asphalt mixture for subsequent processing and laying on the road.
Microsurfacing using Reclaimed Asphal Pavement
Kolesniková, Simona ; Valenta, Jakub (referee) ; Šperka, Pavel (advisor)
The road network in the Czech Republic is almost 55,738 km long and its maintenance has been underfunded for a long time. It is therefore necessary to look for ways to extend the overall service life of roads. Microsurfacings belong to the emulsion slurry layers and are made up of a thin layer of a mixture of aggregate and modified asphalt emulsion. It is a pavement maintenance technology used to extend the service life of pavements by 5 to 9 years. As the supply of quality aggregate is gradually decreasing and the price of feedstock for microsurfacing is increasing, the possibility of incorporating R-material into this technology needs to be addressed. This thesis deals with the replacement of natural aggregates in microsurface R-material in the amount of 100 %. In the framework of the work, the formulation of the microsurface with R-material was optimized.
Recycling of asphalt mixtures with standard amount of RAP
Staňková, Michaela ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Varaus, Michal (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of an asphalt mixture for an abrasive layer with a standard R-material content (20 %) without the use of other softening additives, while the properties of the aged asphalt binder in the mixture were compensated by dosing "softer binder 70/100". Asphalt mixtures type ACO 11+ are designed to meet the requirements ČSN 73 6121: 2019. The aim of the work is to verify the expected properties of the asphalt mixture performed functional and empirical tests according to the standards for asphalt mixtures of the ČSN EN 12697 series.
Recycling of asphalt mixtures with higher amount of RAP
Klimek, Matěj ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Varaus, Michal (advisor)
The theoretical part of the diploma thesis recapitulates the existing literature in the field of recycling asphalt mixtures with a higher content of RAP (Reclaimed asphalt pavement). The practical part of the diploma thesis examines changes in the properties of asphalt mixtures with a higher content of RAP, due to changes in mixing time. Five mixtures have been proposed for this research. It is an asphalt mixture intended for the road abrasive layer (ACO 11+). Reference mixture "A" without RAP, with a standard mixing time of 25 seconds. Mixture "B" with 40% RAP, without rejuvenator, with an extended mixing time of 40 seconds. Mixture "C" with 40% RAP, with rejuvenator and standard mixing time. Mixture "D" with 40% RAP with rejuvenator and extended mixing time of 40 seconds. Mixture "E" with 40% RAP, with rejuvenator and extended mixing time of 55 seconds.
Properties of Polymer Modified Bitumens with Addition of Aged Rap Binder
Sachr, Jiří
The aim of this paper is to describe the effect of adding different amounts of aged binder recovered from RAP on the change in properties of polymer modified bitumen 45/80-65 and polymer modified bitumen referred to as 45/80 RC, which is a binder suitable for cementing asphalt mixtures containing high amounts of RAP. It is also an effort to evaluate the changes in properties of these blended asphalt binders caused by laboratory simulation of aging by rolling thin film oven test (RTFOT) and pressure aging vessel (PAV). Both RAP containing unmodified asphalt binder and RAP obtained from an asphalt mixture that can be assumed to contain polymer modified bitumen are used to recover the aged binders. The aged binder obtained from the RAP is dosed into the fresh binder at 0 %, 15 %, 30 % and 50 %.
Recycling of bituminous binders by using recycling agents
Koudelka, Tomáš ; Komačka,, Jozef (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (referee) ; Varaus, Michal (advisor)
Increasing the content of Reclaimed Asphalt in hot asphalt mixtures is one of the current issues in road construction, to which society's attention is paid. The higher content of Reclaimed Asphalt brings higher technological demands not only for the production of asphalt mixture plants, but also for the handling of materials in general. The benefit for higher demands on asphalt mixture production is the subsequent reduction of the environmental burden associated with the construction of road infrastructure caused by the mining industry and use of natural resources. The dissertation is focused on studying recycling agents which are used in the production of asphalt mixtures containing Reclaimed Asphalt. Emphasis is put on comparing the properties of recycled binders with paving bitumen and binders from Reclaimed Asphalts whereas the effect of repeated recycling is taken into account. A large part of the thesis is devoted to the design of the optimal dosage of recycling agents. Certain findings were used to draw a methodology describing the design of dosing of these agents. At the same time, the properties and behaviour of the recycling agents themselves were evaluated.
Re-using Asphalt Reinforcement Geogrids in Asphalt Mixtures
Provazník, Petr ; Sadil, Dominik (referee) ; Šperka, Pavel (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of re-using reinforcing fiberglass grid which are applied to asphalt layers. The theoretical part describes the general properties of reinforcing materials which includes reinforcement grids and also reinforcing dispersed fibres. There is also a characterization of reclaimed asphalt pavement and its current use. The practical part investigates the properties of reclaimed asphalt pavement which contains milled fiberglass grids. For this purpose several sets of test specimens were made of reclaimed asphalt pavement with proportion of milled fiberglass geogrids. The individual properties of the samples were compared with the initial set which did not contain milled grids. Another comparative sample was R-material to which were added Forta-Fi reinforcing fibers. Functional tests ITS and stiffness were performed on the made samples.
