Vertex and Pixel Shaders OpenGL Visualisation of Medical 3D Image Data
Vaďura, Jiří ; Španěl, Michal (referee) ; Kršek, Přemysl (advisor)
This thesis deals with accelerated 3D rendering of medical data, e.g. computed tomography, using a graphics processor and OpenGL library. Raw data slices are send to graphic memory and rendered by a ray-casting algorithm. The goal of this project is high quality visual output and full user interaction at the same time. Multiple rendering modes are avaiable to the user: MIP, X-Ray simulation and realistic shading.

Humic acids in medicine and cosmetics
Šmídová, Helena ; Sýkorová,, Ivana (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
The main concern of this study was to form a web and literature search focused on the known theoretical knowledge, patent application and the actual realization, for the use of humic acids or material containing humic acids in human and veterinary medicine and cosmetics. The output is also a proposal to be promising directions in exploring these areas. The introduction deals with humic substances in general with emphasis on humic acids, history of humic chemistry and structure of humic substances. The second part deals with medical aspects, pharmacological effects and the use of humic substances in human medicine, veterinary medicine and cosmetics, also takes account of humic substances from the perspective of the environment. The task of third experimental part was to learn the basics of isolation and characterization of humic acids (measurement of IR and UV / VIS spectra and determination of moisture and ash in samples of humic acids).

Open Information Sources and Competitive Intelligence. Databases for Medical and Pharmaceutical Purposes
Papík, R. ; Papíková, Vendula
Competitive intelligence processes are often used in medical and pharmaceutical institutions and companies in the world. The pharmaceutical industry is a typical sector and meeting point of two main directions of corporative potential, i.e. research and development activities and business activities. Many open sources, e.g. databases from vendors and centers, are relevant both for R&D usage and for business utilization. This paper indicates overview of the relevant sources with their brief description and content characterization.
Nursing and medicin - partners proffesion
PAVLÍKOVÁ, Lenka
Abstract The relation between nursing and medicine has been undergoing a number of changes in recent years. Optimization of synergy and competences between healthcare professions is one of the priorities of the healthcare system development. This research addresses the issue whether nursing and medical professions are partner professions in healthcare of clients. The objective of the thesis was to ascertain whether nursing and medical professions can be declared as partner professions in healthcare. This objective was fulfilled through a quantitative research using the method of a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire contained 17 questions for doctors and 18 questions for nurses. The respondents of this questionnaire survey were 132 nurses and 97 doctors. The data were processed by means of descriptive statistics using charts. It follows from the data analysis that nursing and medicine cannot be regarded as partner professions yet. According to nurses and doctors, the partner relation between these two professions is of crucial importance for client care. Higher education and professionalism of nurses contributes to improvement of mutual relations. The research has revealed that it is necessary to continue addressing this issue. Within the research we explored several areas that, as we believe, are closely connected with this issue, and we based the research on its theoretical part. This thesis is beneficial by exploring the opinions of nurses and doctors on the relations between nursing and medicine, and by ascertaining their opinions on the effect of the partnership between these two professions on quality improvement of client care. We also investigated whether nurses and doctors believe that higher education and professionalism of nurses contributed to improvement of the relation between nursing and medicine. It is apparent from the research that nurses and doctors realize that partnership between nursing and medicine is of fundamental significance for care of clients. If they endeavour to trust each other, communicate effectively and show mutual respect, nursing and medicine will become partner professions. The research may initiate drawing attention to problems in relations between nursing and medicine, and may provide guidance to finding the solution. It may also stimulate nurses, doctors, students of nursing and medical branches, and managements of healthcare facilities to think about the issue.
Development of the Nuclear Medicine Field of Study (Didactic Programme)
BUČEK, František
The bachelor thesis explores the development of nuclear medicine in Czechoslovakia. The thesis recalls its present well-known specialists as well as founders of the field including the contemporaries Doc. MUDr. Bohuslav Vavrejn, Csc. and Prof. MUDr. Zdeněk Dienstbier, DrSc. whose memories were also used as resources by the author. The thesis describes the beginings of nuclear medicine in Czechoslovakia {--} the first application of radiopharmaceutical agents, creation of specialized centres, and becoming independent of the field upon approval of its first concept in 1964. This work also mentions problems initially dealt with by the field in terms of apparatus-based technical equipment, radiopharmaceutical agents and education. The foundation of the Czech Society for Nuclear Medicine is described, as well as cooperation with foreign institutions. Information on apparatus-based technical equipment import from abroad is included, particularly of the companies Nuclear Chicago and Picker, and also domestic production ranging from prototypes to serial production at research institutes or enterprises that included, for example, the Research Institute of Nuclear Technical Apparatuses Přemyšlení, TESLA Vráble, TESLA Brno and METRA Blansko. The bachelor thesis furthermore provides brief characteristics of radiopharmaceutical agents and a summary of present as well as no more used examination methods in nuclear medicine. Problems related to their initial use are described. Radiopharmaceutical agents were imported as early as in 1949 for the first time from France. Domestic production of radioisotopes began in Czechoslovakia at the end of the 50ies of the past century, located at Řež u Prahy. The thesis moreover outlines the concept of the field and legislation it is governed by. Individual types of centres are described, as well as educational requirements for the personnel. In conclusion, advantages of the field are assessed, its close relationship with new technical knowledge and development of apparatuses, such as the hybrid imaging devices PET/CT, SPECT/CT and molecular imaging. The thesis has also been adapted to an e-learning version where information contained in its written form are presented closer schematically and expanded upon for those interested.
