Lukášová, Tereza ; Váňa, Daniel (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
In the first part of this work I will remind basic landmarks of the Czech-German cohabitation in the historical area of Bohemia, Moravia and south part of Silesia as it is reflected in historical literature. In the main part I will analyze various president's decrees concerning the German minority in the postwar Czechoslovakia and describe the executive process of its creation. I will shortly describe the process of the transfer itself. A part of my work will be an analysis of the impact of the transfer of Germans on various sectors of Czech economy. Finally I will follow up how was this situation handled economically, politically and demographically. During this work I will ask myself i. a. these questions: What led to the transfer? How was the transfer realized? What were the economic and social consequences? How was the problem of resettlement in Sudeten area solved?
Prominent margin: Imagination of the Czech-German borderland in 19th and 20th century literature
Řezníková, Lenka
The study deals with the concept of the Czech-German "borderland" as a spatial, mental ad social figure participing in the construction of the ethnic (national and cultural) differences and of otherness in general. Interpreting 19th and 20th century Czech literary texts, it shows the main transformations of this concept, from the idea of language frontier (dominating in the 19th century) to representation of the border territory (in the 20th century) Underscoring the cultural and historical conditionality of the frontier as a social institution, and the influence of cartography for its socialization, the study focuses on the spatial and semiotic consequences of these transformations.
Rurální pohraničí Česka
Vaishar, Antonín
110 border microregions constituted by the catchment centres of authorized municipal authorities were demarcated during the analysis of the Czech borderland. The following facts were stated: a slightly better demographic situation of borderland (particularly the rural one), markedly lower educational level, higher unemployment which is however related to ther structural transition of economy, insufficient infrastructure. Future of the rural borderland is seen more in sustainable settlement than in economic development. Qualification structure seems to the main barrier of development and cross-border co-operation, in which social contacts are being created first while the actual economic co-operation is till at the beginning. Further research will be focused on the microregions of very small centres that might be considered the most problematic.

„At Home“ in Borderland
Laštovková, Jitka
The following article is aimed at reception of category of “home” by Czech citizens from Czech-Bavarian borders. The unique characteristic of this area is... . mainly exchange of inhabitants after the WWII. The term home is interpreted as social construct, culturally and historically determined. Content of the interviews shows that home has its territorial, social and time dimension and mostly is associated with birthplace, residence or family. The perception is different among autochthons and newcomers and it differs according to generations, too. To a certain extent interviews controvert postmodern theories about progressive disappearance of home (Bauman, Keller) and they seem to testify the necessity to define, to build and to stay “home”.

The confiscation of German borderland agriculture property and its following redistribution to new Czechoslovakian inhabitans
Hájková, Kateřina ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Jeřábková, Zdenka (referee)
This study represents an attempt to assess the situation in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War in consequence of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czech borderland. It summarizes the overall contribution and the effectiveness of individual measures and legal amendments proposed by the government in order to permit the confiscation of German property and its redistribution to new Czech inhabitants. The main aim of this work is to find certain imperfections in the process (probably caused by the speed with which the decrees passed), as well as to draw the attention to the fact that the security, political and national interests became the national priorities in post-war period, at the expense of Czechoslovak economy.
