Title: Comparison of the proportion of physical activities in patients with multiple sclerosis and individuals of the general population Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out, through a questionnaire survey, whether there is a difference in the representation of physical activities in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and individuals of the general population (GP) during their normal week. I also wanted to find out whether demographic data affect the level of physical activity in individuals of both groups. Another goal was to find out if there is any difference between trends and types of physical activities in individuals with MS compared to individuals with GP. Methods: Data was obtained using a questionnaire survey. The respondents of both interviewed groups filled in the standardized Godin-Shephard Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire, complemented by several developing questions concerning mainly the representation of physical activity in their everyday life. The data was obtained from 630 individuals of the GP (individuals without chronic disease) and from 354 patients with MS in the age range of 25-70 years. An online questionnaire was used to obtain data from respondents of the GP. Patients with MS filled in a questionnaire as part of a previously undertaken...

Subjects of the ambulatory program were divided into one of the three groups of ambulatory physiotherapy (Motoric program activating therapy, Manual physiotherapy correction, Reflex Locomotion according to Vojta), in which they absolved during two months 20 therapies (2-3 times per week, length 60 minutes). Subjects of complex program underwent complex inpatient rehabilitation with duration about 21 days. The...
Immunological profile of patients with multiple sclerosis
Šubjak, David ; Fišerová, Anna (advisor) ; Růžičková, Šárka (referee)
Immunological profile of multiple sclerosis patients Abstrakt Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune neurodegenerative disease affecting predominantly the white matter of the CNS and the spinal cord. The mechanism of disease progression is not yet fully understood. In this study we focused on a comparison of selected immunological markers between patients with multiple sclerosis who were naïve newly diagnosed, subsequently treated with Avonex (IFNβ1a) and healthy donors. The T cells (particulary cytotoxic CD8+ T cells) are the major population involved in pathogenesis of MS causing the demyelization of axons. Subpopulation of CD161+ Th cells has a potential to be very important in this process. We focused on the role of NK cells phenotype and function in autoimmune response of patients and their changes during the therapeutic intervention. Using flow cytometry we analyzed the distribution of NK, NKT, T cells and monocytes with special regard to the expression of CD161 and NKG2D molecules on their surface. We observed increase counts of CD161+ cells in subpopulations NK CD56bright , NK CD56dim , Th, Tc CD8bright , Tc CD8dim and decrease counts of NKG2D+ cells in subpopulations NK CD56bright , NK CD56dim , NKT, Th, Tc CD8bright , Tc CD8dim and monocytes. The decreased cytotoxic activity of NK cells in naïve MS...
Influence of Botulinum Toxin Application on Quality of Life in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Miňová, Zuzana ; Jirásková, Lucie (advisor) ; Kövári, Martina (referee)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to find out how medical application of botulinum toxin can affect the quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis. The thesis is based on theoretical research providing a brief overview of the basic facts about multiple sclerosis - its pathogenesis, etiology, clinical picture, treatment alternatives. Further on, the thesis deals with the concept of spasticity, possibilities to influence it and also its valuation. The subsequent section comprises an overview of the findings about botulinum toxin and its therapeutic application. The term quality of life, an influence of the disease on the quality of life and also the methods used to evaluate it are described at the end of the theoretical part. The practical section contains case histories of two patients who underwent the medical application of botulinum toxin. The thesis is closed by a discussion on this topic. Title: The effect of rhythmic auditory stimulation on gait in patients with Multiple Sclerosis Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the effect of rhythmic auditory stimulation on gait in patients with multiple sclerosis using GAITRite and Timed 25-Foot Walk test (T25FW). Furthermore, we investigated the effect of rhythmic auditory stimulation on the patients' subjective perception of their gait using the standardised MSWS-12 questionnaire. Methods: Twenty-eight individuals were recruited for the study. The intervention group comprised 14 patients (2 men, 12 women, average age - 34 years) with the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis of ≤ 6.0 on Kurtzke Expanded Disability Status Scale. The control group comprised 14 healthy individuals (2 men, 12 women, average age - 36 yrs). All recruited individuals must have been older than 18 years old. The intervention group walked for 20 minutes a day for 6 weeks while listening to rhythmic music with cadence set 15% higher than the cadence of their gait. The control group had no intervention. Individual gait parameters in both groups were measured before and after the 6 weeks using the GAITRite device. The following parameters were analysed: step duration, step length, step velocity, cadence, length of double support, length of single support. Walking speed was...

The theoretical part is focused on the description of multiple sclerosis and methods of its treatment with the focus on physiotherapy and physical activity. The practical part compares the results from the initial and final examination by using tables and graphs. For the evaluation of walk, the functional tests were chosen: Timed Up and Go (TUG), Timed Up and Go (TUG) + cognitive task. The balance was evaluated by One-leg stance test and the Limity Stability test using the Balance Master system. For the evaluation of accompanying symptoms of multiple sclerosis, standardized questionnaires were chosen (MSNQ, MFIS,...
Anorectal dysfunction in multiple sclerosis
Motlová, Alžběta ; Kövári, Martina (advisor) ; Bitnar, Petr (referee)
This thesis is interested in summary of anorectal dysfunction in patients with sclerosis multiplex. This thesis is divided into 2 parts. The objective of the first part is a description of the anorectal dysfuntions. It also includes epidemiological data, dividing, investigating algorithms and possibilities of therapy. The second part is consisting of the case report of pacient with fecal incontinence who underwent the physiotherapy. Her medical history, individual therapy according to kinesiological analysis, evaluation by rectoanal manometry and subjective questionnaire are widely described within. Therapy is assessed by standardised questionnaire Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life Scale and St. Marks Continence Scale. The anorectal manometry evaluates the function of anal sphincters while at rest, during a voluntary contraction and also subcribes sensitivity of rectum. The subjective questionnaires reflect the psychosocial aspects and patient's quality of life. The analysis of fuction and kinesiological analysis were performed before and after physiotherapy and then after 3 months of hometherapy.
