Determination of selenium and manganese in cerebrospinal fluid by atomic absorption spectrometry
Jiráková, Lucie ; Kotaška, Karel (advisor) ; Klapková, Eva (referee)
The aim of this study was to confirm the use of electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry for the determination of selenium and manganese in the cerebrospinal fluid and to investigate concentrations of selenium and manganese in selected group of patients. For selenium was determined the detection limit 2,9 μg/l, for manganese 0,26 μg/l. 73 patients were examined (31 women, 42 men) whose average age was 14,1 years. The patients were divided into two groups according to age (56 children, 17 adults) and into two subgroups according to diagnoses (oncological, neurological). The control group consists of 18 subjects (5 women, 13 men, average age 21,7 years) with non-oncological and non-neurological diagnoses. We found significantly increased selenium concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid in the control group, compared with the group with neurological diagnoses (median = 14,4 μg/l vs. 12,4 μg/l, p < 0.05). Elevated levels of manganese in cerebrospinal fluid was observed in a group of children with oncological diseases compared with control group (1,2 μg/l vs. 0,5 μg/l, p < 0.05). Determination of selenium and manganese in the cerebrospinal fluid may have diagnostic importance in selected groups of patients. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Nursing care for neurological patients in intensive care units
HRICOVÁ, Kristina
This bachelor thesis deals with problematics of nursing care of neurologically ill patients in intensive care. It´s main objective was to map specifics of nursing care of neurologically ills in Intensive Care Unit. The secondary objective was to find out, how the Intensive Care Unit personal mantains principles of neurologically ill pacients careTo accomplish determinated goals, following research questions were set up: What are the specifics of nursing care of neurologically ill patients in intensive care? How nurses working in Intensive Care Unit, mantain principles of neurogically ill patients care? From a range of neurological diseases, this bachelor thesis focus on strokes in intensive care. Teoretical part deals with different kinds of strokes, their etologie, clinical symptoms, possibility of diagnostic and therapy. Also specifics of nursing care in individual areas. To carry out the research, the method of quantitative research was choosen. Data collection was done by technic of hidden observation and semi-structured interview. Method Pencil - Paper was used to analyse results. Processing researched finding, both research questions were answered. Despite minor shortcomings, mainly of systemic caracter, results of the research are showing great quality of nursing care, provided to patients with neurological diseaseses in observed Intensive Care Unit. It was found out, the most specific area of stroke patient care is nutrition - for reason of dysfagie - and also positioning and rehabilitation. Nurses pointed out, one of the biggest risk of this care is pressure instability and possible lost of conscience. Nurse in Intensive Care Unit must know, how to respond properly and immediately to this situation. The thesis offers complete overview of the nurse care of neurologically ill patients in intensive care and provides recommendation in problematic areas of nurse care.
Nursing care about children with hydrocephalus.
POLÁKOVÁ, Nikola
This bachelor thesis "nursing care for hydrocephalic children" deals with the specifics of nursing care and its difficulty. Hydrocephalus is an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid that causes the brain's ventricular system to expand. The formation of the hydrocephalus comes due to imbalance in cerebrospinal fluid production or hydrocephalus can cause obstruction in the natural circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. The illness can lead to increased intraocular pressure and progressive head growth. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part will explain the term hydrocephalus, causes of origin, diagnosis and treatment. It also mentions the complications of operative solutions and subsequent nursing care. The practical part of the bachelor thesis is processed as a qualitative survey using the technique of semi-structured interview and case history. The target of the bachelor thesis was to find out the specifics in nursing care in children with hydrocephalus. Based on the target of the bachelor thesis, two research questions were identified. First: "What are the specifics in nursing care by children with hydrocephalus?". The second definition of the research question is: "What are the most common problems for children with hydrocephalus?" By processing the research part of the thesis, it was found, that nursing care for children with hydrocephalus is very demanding, both psychologically and physically. Taking care of these children is also very time consuming. Nursing care also depends largely on well-established and functioning treatments. If the patient is properly compensated, they may not be dependent on the care of another person. The research shows, that nurses are well informed about this disease and care for these children spend the time. This bachelor thesis will be the basis for a presentation at a conference in Budějovice on Kazuistika.

Myasthenia gravis from the perspective of a nurse.
FEJERČÁKOVÁ, Monika
Bachelor thesis deals with the issue of autoimmune disease Myasthenia gravis. It focuses mainly on nursing care from a nurse'spoint of view. Thesis describes diseases, clinical symptoms of Myasthenia gravis, prognosis, treatment and nursing process in patients with Myasthenia gravis. A very important part of my work is the look and role of the nurse. The aim of the work was to find out the nurses' view of Myasthenia gravis. For qualitative survey was chosen using the semi-structured interview method. The research group was made up of nurses from neurological departments of selected hospitals. The method chosen was interrogation and deep interviewing, in the presence of one interviewer per participant. The analysis of the acquired data was carried out using the hand coding method. The results of the bachelor thesis confirmed the necessity of organizing seminars and lectures on Myasthenia gravis, because the interviewed nurses did not have specialized information about the disease. We also recommend that a standard of nursing care for patients with Myasthenia gravis is developed at each department of neurology. A very important part is also the education of patients. Benefits of thesis results in improving nursing care for patients with Myasthenia gravis, based on organized seminars, education and development of standards in the Department of Neurology.
