Roles of Women in the Works of Two Jewish-American Female Authors: Rebecca Goldstein and Allegra Goodman
Kozáková, Tereza ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Grmela, Josef (referee)
The Jewish-American situation seen through the lenses of Goldstein's and Goodman's works bring us closer to understanding the challenges the Jews in America have had to face. American culture provides open possibilities and chances that Jews had not been used to. This change starts the process of gradual assimilation in the forms of new educational opportunities, new views of gender roles, a modern approach to life where all people can be appreciated and successful, women not excluded. The impact of place and culture shapes the face of traditional Judaism, which needs to find ways to retain orthodox ways and keep Jews united against the possible dangers that might come from the outside. Yet progressive assimilation is inevitable and concerns all American Jews, even those who try to seek shelter in the womb of the orthodox communities. The changes take place especially in the new generations who do not have much connection to the past and Jewish experience on the far distant continent. They create their own version of Judaism based partly on the ways of their parents and partly on what American society offers. American values are gradually taken into consideration and influence the views of the young Jews. The new face of the religion is no longer what Judaism used to look like in the old shtetls. New rules...

The whole area has wheelchair access and counts with the movement of people with reduced mobility. The building is designed as brick, using clay blocks which are put on concrete foundation strips. Thermal insulation is a combination of contact thermal insulation system and ventilated facade with hanging plates. The roofing is designed partly as a float double-shell roof with timber truss girder, and partly as a single-shell roof with concrete load-bearing structure. The drawing documentation has been created using computer programs AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, and the programs by doc. Dr. Ing. Zbyněk Svoboda (Teplo, Area, Stabilita, Simulace) and another simple computer programs like Excel were used for the thermal assessment.

Attitudes and options of nurses in the care of methanol poisoned patients (theoretical thesis)
DVOULETÁ, Zuzana
Methanol poisoning usually comes to the forefront of both professional and general public interest at times, when there is a larger outbreak, outside of these periods these cases appear sporadically. They occur in the whole world, in the developed countries as well as in the developing ones, independently of any restriction on the consumption of alcoholic beverages by the state. In Czech society this topic came to surface especially in 2012, when as a result of methanol intoxication the minimum of 50 people died and many more suffer permanent damage. The trickiness of methanol lies in the fact, that it is not possible to recognize it from ethanol in an alcoholic drink or in any other mixture. Most often it penetrates the organism by way of ingestion; it can also be absorbed through the skin or by inhalation. Methanol itself is not toxic; its metabolites (formaldehyde and formic acid) however present a problem. Typical symptoms include visual disturbances, deepening metabolic acidosis with an increased anion gap and damage to basal ganglia, particularly the putamen. The intoxication is further accompanied by a range of nonspecific symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, impairment of consciousness and cognitive functions. The gravity of the intoxication depends on the amount of ingested methanol and on the mixing ratio with ethanol. Therapy consists of administering specific antidotes ethanol or fomepizole, modifying of the internal environment, continuous or intermittent hemodialysis, if necessary and allowed by the patient's condition and in supportive treatment for maintaining the stability of vital functions. Nursing care has an unreplaceable role in treatment of these patients. Nurses come to contact with these patients in every sector of healthcare, they take part in admission, stabilization and monitoring of vital functions, they tend to the invasions as well as to maximal psychic and physical comfort of the patient. They take part in rehabilitation and also help patients returning into normal life. This thesis deals with the properties of methanol, its production and toxicity, it explores methanol intoxication, its symptoms and sequelae, diagnostics and therapy as well as nursing care in detail. It follows the role of nurses of all the sectors of health care in managing all the stages of the intoxication with emphasis on selected nursing activities in the intensive, standard or aftercare. The thesis concludes with 4 documented case studies. The aim of this thesis was to process the information collected on this topic into a complex and current overview of knowledge on methanol poisoning and the possibilities of dealing with it all of the phases of the poisoning including the aftercare of the patients who were affected. A summary of procedures and variations thereof was acquired on the theoretical basis of Czech and foreign sources such as books, renowned periodicals in paper or electronic form and by means of web sites of professional societies. The sum of knowledge this thesis provides can serve for teaching needsor continuing education of healthcare workers concerning diagnostics, therapy and management of the sequelae of this intoxication with special emphasis on the possibilities of nurse´s intervention in any of the phases of it, or to provide base for further research in this area.

Gas Microsensors Based on Self-Organized 3D Metal-Oxide Nanofilms
Pytlíček, Zdeněk ; Husák, Miroslav (referee) ; Kolařík, Vladimír (referee) ; Prášek, Jan (advisor)
This dissertation concerns the development, fabrication and integration in a gas sensing microdevice of a novel 3-dimensional (3D) nanostructured metal-oxide semiconducting film that effectively merges the benefits of inorganic nanomaterials with the simplicity offered by non-lithographic electrochemistry-based preparation techniques. The film is synthesized via the porous-anodic-alumina-assisted anodizing of an Al/Nb metal bilayer sputter-deposited on a SiO2/Si substrate and is basically composed of a 200 nm thick NbO2 layer holding an array of upright-standing spatially separated Nb2O5 nanocolumns, being 50 nm wide, up to 900 nm long and of 8109 cm2 population density. The nanocolumns work as semiconducting nano-channels, whose resistivity is greatly impacted by the surface and interface reactions. Either Pt or Au patterned electrodes are prepared on the top of the nanocolumn array using an innovative sensor design realized by means of microfabrication technology or via a direct original point electrodeposition technique, followed by selective dissolution of the alumina overlayer. For gas-sensing tests the film is mounted on a standard TO-8 package using the wire-bonding technique. Electrical characterization of the 3D niobium-oxide nanofilm reveals asymmetric electron transport properties due to a Schottky barrier that forms at the Au/Nb2O5 or Pt/Nb2O5 interface. Effects of the active film morphology, structure and composition on the electrical and gas-sensing performance focusing on sensitivity, selectivity, detection limits and response/recovery rates are explored in experimental detection of hydrogen gas and ammonia. The fast and intensive response to H2 confirms the potential of the 3D niobium-oxide nanofilm as highly appropriate active layer for sensing application. A computer-aided microfluidics simulation of gas diffusion in the 3D nanofilm predicts a possibility to substantially improve the gas-sensing performance through the formation of a perforated top electrode, optimizing the film morphology, altering the crystal structure and by introducing certain innovations in the electrode design. Preliminary experiments show that a 3D nanofilm synthesized from an alternative Al/W metal bilayer is another promising candidate for advanced sensor applications. The techniques and materials employed in this work are advantageous for developing technically simple, cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions for practical micro- and nanodevices, where the well-defined nano-channels for charge carriers and surface reactions may bring unprecedented benefits.
