Marketing Communications Analysis of DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in 2009 and 2010

At times, when even state-financed museums and galleries are forced to manage the entrusted financial resources responsibly, create their own profits and raise funds for their operations from other than public sources, marketing communications become an important tool for reaching out to visitors as well as potential sponsors and other supporters. It is understandable that in private organizations, which gain only a relatively small percentage of their total budget from the state grants, are the marketing activities even more important. The bachelor thesis "Marketing Communications Analysis of DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in 2009 and 2010" characterizes the DOX centre, one of the biggest czech private galleries, describes its activities, analyzes the competition, target groups, and especially its communication tools. The most important points are then summarized by a brief SWOT analysis. The contribution of the work lies mainly in the comparison of the theory of museum marketing mostly from foreign-language literature and marketing practice realized by the czech institution of DOX centre. Discoursive space between gallery and school

This study examines the function of art education at the level of selected European and Czech national documents, at the level of Prague 1 galleries and museums that offer education programmes for school groups at the level of the individual education employees of museums, galleries and of primary graphic and plastic art school in Prague 1. The content of the thesis is based on data collected and analyzed using grounded theory of the qualitative research. The research data pass through the entire text and show the links between themselves and connections with theoretical texts. The text of the thesis is divided into two parts. The first one is focused on theoretical and research findings. Here are the resources of the whole work contained, statements about art and education from the perspective of different discourses, creation of gallery and museum education, creation of gallery and museum education, the current trends in the gallery and museum education, position of gallery and museum educators, the competency of educators, the methodology, research results and evaluation of research probe. Autosalon

This master's thesis focuses on design and elaboration of documentation for construction of a Car Showroom. The building is divided to two functional parts. The building is to be situated on plot number 1333/21, cadastre unit: Bohunice. The building is to be located on an undeveloped plot in possesion of the investor. The parking lots are connected to a local road. All substantial infrastructures are located nearby the plot. The proposition and the design of the building have respect for both commune plan and current buildings. The documentation is elaborated with regard to the contemporary Czech legislative and standards. The project designs the building, which is divided in two functional parts: SO 01 & SO 02, both operationally and visually connected. Contructions of objects are structurally independent. The first object includes exhibition hall with capacity of 8 exhibited cars. There is also to be located the administrative part, waiting rooms for customers, facilities for employees and the warehouse. The second object includes car repair shop. There are also to be located facilities for employees of the service, workshop, room for a car handover, hand car wash and an utility room. Construction is designed as a reinforced concrete columnar structural system with prefabricated single footings, self-supporting foundation slab and reinforced concrete ceiling slab with integrated girders above first floor of the object SO 01. The roofs of the building are designed as a flat roofs and the support constructions are made of steel. Planned dimensions of autosalon are 41x18 metres. As a cladding of the first object is used the lightweight glass cladding. For masonry walls are used the 250 mm thick ceramic blocks, mineral insulation and ventilated external facade cladding with use of fiber-cement boards. Planned dimensions of car repair shop are 31x28 metres. As a cladding of the second object are used the sandwich panels with foam core made of PIR.

Leisure Time Centre

The thesis aims petition leisure center in České Budějovice. The building will be used for education and sports activities citizens. Clients use the services of a cafe with gallery, multifunctional rooms, library and teaching space, the center also includes facilities for staff. The building is designed as a three-storey with a partial basement.

Single-family house

The theme of the bachelor thesis is design documentation detached house in Vsetin. The building site is located in the Stara cesta, which is the city plan for the construction of buildings for individual housing. The building is located on plot number 5379/2. The building is designed as two floors and no cellarage. The floor plan dimensions will be 12,81 x 8,32 metres + terrace in the 1st floor. Overall height of the building will be 8,51 meters at the ridge. The building has gabled roof with a slope of 40 degrees. The basement is formed by the permanent formwork. The vertical framework beams are built of Porotherm 24 P + D. The horizontal framework beams are built of Porotherm and make the ceiling. Roof structure will consist of a wooden frame. The facade will be lined with ceramic tapes Terca Klinker. Roof deck will be Pre-patinated Titanzinc sheet.

Art school in Brno

The following bachelor’s thesis is based on the study created in the subject AG32. The thesis further developed this study to the level of Building permit documentation and Documentation for execution of the project. The theme of the project is an Art school which is situated in Brno, Kraví hora, Veveří. The place of the design is on the hillside orientated to the north-east with the view all over the city, which significantly affected the whole design. Nerby the solved land is a big park, the Observatory and Planetarium in Brno, a swimming pool and other sports fields and also gardening, below the hill takes place the Faculty of Civil engineering of the Brno university of Technology. My main goal was a design of an art school, which will be used by the residents of all age groups from all over Brno and it’s surroundings, but mostly by children, students and other young people. The building respects the context of the locality, with it’s form and appearance which reacts on the sloping terrain. It is monumental from the city view, but doesn’t overtop the existing buildings and doesn’t disturb the panorama of the hill of Kraví hora. My design consists of three connected objects which facades have different materials that ideologicly depend on the purpouse of each building. Between the two main buildings there is a passage flaring up to the hill. This passage serves as a public space and it’s purpouse is to connect the most frequently used entrances to the land (from the Rybkova street to the observatory) and it makes the way faster and more pleasant for the people crossing the place. Thanks to this fact, the building is the part of the park without distorting the main communications of the place.

The Reconstruction of Vyškov Rectory

Bachelor thesis deals with reconstruction and design of new functional use of the former rectory in Vyskov and new gallery on the neighboring property. Rectory building has been restored to its original condition, disposition solution respects the requirements of dean of parish, it is accessible to people with limited mobility. The new building will storey building gallery, which will enrich the cultural life in Vyskov. Mass design gallery was inspired by the intersection prisms. The next phase includes the creation of public space between the rectory and gallery, parking spaces and a park.

Multifunctional house in Brno

Bachelor's thesis is based on previously designed project of Multifunctional house in a gap site. The main theme of this project is art. The ground floor of the building serves as a gallery café, the wall of the passage to the courtyard is used as outdoor exhibition space. At the upper floors are 4 flats with a studio designed for artist emphasizing function of the building and creating targeted community. A distinctive element is brick facade, it responds to the historical context of the street and its perforated design without distinguished elements connects neighboring houses and units their different scale. Also the facade serves as an acoustic barrier against noise from the busy street.

ANTHONY MCCALL'S "OTHER" FILMS

The thesis "Anthony McCall's Other Films" deals with new possibilities of film as a medium. McCall designs light installations which surround the spectator in a gallery space. In my thesis I examine the reasons leading him to the creation of such minimalistic films, exploring his inspirations and interests. Even though his art works at first sight do not resemble films as we know them, I find it intriguing to think of them as films. Anthony McCall enabled us to enter the abstract world of his films. It is a world in which each spectator plays the main part.
