Shooting Jane Austen: Romantic and realistic imagery in two recent film adaptations of Austen's Pride and Prejudice
Švábová, Šárka ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Chalupský, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis is concerned with the comparison o f Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice and its two film adaptations. Special attention is paid to the recent tendencies o f film-makers to put emphasis on the romantic aspects o f the main plotline, to tone down the realistic background and social satire o f the story, and to favour minimalism, which often results in psychological reductionism o f the characters. The analysis is divided into two parts. The first part concentrates on the depiction o f individual characters, particularly their personality reflected in their behaviour. The second part examines the storylines o f the two adaptations in terms o f fidelity to the original; dealing separately with scenes which were omitted and scenes which were included in both versions. The thesis tries to find sufficient evidence o f the tendencies mentioned above in order to illustrate the growing trend o f these tendencies.

The essays of Marina Tsvetaeva in Czech translations
Šťastná, Zuzana ; Honzík, Jiří (referee) ; Rubáš, Stanislav (advisor)
Czech translations of six essays by Marina Tsvetaeva that focus on poetry writing and on the work of fellow-poets were examined, following a detailed analysis of Tsvetaeva's style and the historical and biographical context of her prose. The evaluation criteria for the translations were: accuracy in reproducing the author's meaning, the ability to distinguish the characteristic features of Tsveateva's style from the systemic features of Russian and the translators' creative input in reproducing especially the lexical and euphonic intricacies of the original. In addition to providing a general overview of translation problems posed by the author's style the work attempted to trace differences between the approaches of two translators of Tsvetaeva's princi pal essays on art: Jana Štroblová (Art in the Light oj Conscience) and Jan Zábrana (Poet and Time, The Epic and Lyric ofContemporary Russia). All Czech translations were found seriously lacking in accuracy; the errors in the reproduction of meaning are partly due to the idiosyncrasies of Tsvetaeva's style (e.g. punctuation), but sometimes to sheer carelessness. Remaining faithful especially to the emotionality ofthe style occasionally entails the transference oftypically Russian syntax or word order into Czech. The effort to reproduce or compensate for...

The purification of bioconjugates of azaphtalocyanines by SPE
Cichý, Jakub ; Kučera, Radim (advisor) ; Pilařová, Pavla (referee)
Diploma thesis The purification of bioconjugates of azaphthalocyanines by SPE Jakub Cichý Charles Univerzity in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry and drug analysis This thesis occupy the development of a method for purification biocunjugate azaphthalocyanines by solid-phase extraction (SPE). These derivates of azaphthalocyanine are investigated as molecular probes to guench of fluorescence in various genetic analysis. Experiments were carried out successuvely in order to find the ideal SPE conditions for the analyte. We tried also different type of SPE columns and their influence on the extraction. Subsequently were optimized each extraction steps, the changes in pH, molarity and strength elution solutions were made with an effort to get the best separation results. Column appeared as the best DSC-Ph (500 mg/3 ml) and the most optimal conditions were:  Condition: 3 ml 100% MeOH + 5 ml 50mM TEAA  Apply sample: 100 μl 100nM  Washing solution: 9 ml 55% MeOH/50mM TEAA  Elution solution: 3 ml 80% MeOH/50mM TEAA We obtained by this method recovery of extraction analyte around 70-75 %, with 10% relative contamination of remains oligonucleotide chains in the final eluate solution. The SPE method is an alternative to the already developed HPLC method...

Presentation layer support in the frameworks
Kapčiar, Jan ; Pavlíček, Luboš (advisor) ; Gála, Libor (referee)
This master thesis deals with the presentation layer and its framework support for the web applications. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. First of all, the presentation layer is described; followed by the depiction of the particular basic technologies running within the web browsers. Communication with the server is one of the topics mentioned as well. The thesis analyzes the AJAX techniques and from a theoretical perspective focuses on the server part of the presentation layer by means of the design patterns. Afterwards, theoretical findings are analyzed with three different frameworks (Zend, PRADO, Nette) while the practical example shows all the options offered by each framework. The final conclusion summarizes the particular experiences observed. Therefore, the reader is expected to obtain information regarding the presentation layer from all the points of view. Moreover, the practical comparisons are provided in order to help the reader to choose an efficient framework for development.

The influence of war on suicide rate
Olchavová, Dita ; Guasti, Petra (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Hynek (referee)
This work traces how the research dealing with the influence of war on the suicide rate have changed since Durkheim's time up to recent days. Durheim maintained that during wartime the suicide rates tend to be lower than in more peaceful times and that this is due to higher political integration of the society produced by wars. This idea has been studied by various sociologists in order to confirm or refuse this idea on the basis of individuallevel data research on suicide in different countries at different times. Some studies have found support for the idea, while other have not. Investigating these studies - their results as well as their methodology - brings up valuable information about the crucial points of conducting a research of this domain. Homelessness - solving of the phenomenon in the context of residential services
ŠPERLOVÁ, Markéta
Homeless people create a specific subculture in our society. It's a matter of a negative phenomenon of which the society has a poor opinion coming often from a lack of information. There is a lot of ways helping to find solutions to this problem, in these days. First of all, in this bachelor's work, the terms of the subject are clarified, as well as the history and the general characteristics of homelessness. This work contains the current legislation and some chosen statistics indicators. It proposes possible solutions of homelessness in the Czech Republic, especially in the capital. Projects, conceptions and plans are mentioned as well as the systems of helping focusing on integration, independence and residential services. A list of some active organizations involved in helping this problem is included. The conclusion of the theoretical part is dedicated to the Salvation Army. After the theory comes the practical part. The branch of the Salvation Army named Centre of Social Services of Bohuslav Bures is presented here. It is the place, where my practical quest was done. The purpose of this quest was to figure out if the social and residential services of the Centre of Social Services of Bohuslav Bures are sufficient to allow their adepts to integrate completely to the ordinary society. The information is provided from the users of the asylum themselves. The investigation covers up the services of the centre that should respond to the real needs of its users. The chosen situations of particular people from my quest were considered from an angle of a larger scale of time. Questions were based on the indicators of the past, the present and the future. In order to get information I chose the method of qualified approach and the study of particular cases. A partly structured dialogue was the main technique in which seven clients engaged. We first defined the problem to deal with. It was the effectiveness and the influence of provided services in the asylum. Then we specified the main question and other partial questions of the inquiry. Obtained data was noted, analysed and interpreted in order to provide an answer to the questions of the inquiry. The practical part carries a record of a dialogue with one of the social workers of the Salvation Army Centre of Social Services of Bohuslav Bures provided for my quest as a part of it. The quest showed the asylum thanks to the extent of its services enables homeless people to integrate back into our society. Some other recommendations were stated. The goal of the quest was achieved.
