An analytical comparison of theoretical approaches of discounted utility and dual-self theory to procrastination, this work investigated the credibility of explanation of its main aspects: utility of activities, timing of rewards and efforts, estimates of future preferences and self-regulation. The analysis implies that the classical economic paradigm of human behavior cannot include in its theoretical boundaries the last two aspects of procrastination, without abandoning the assumption of homo economicus. Dual-self theory on the other hand, has a much wider possibilities to explain all factors that influence procrastination. The thesis introduces dual-self theory closer and proposed that for solution of procrastination there should be adopted some notes of this theory.

These results were based on an experiment (N=111), which was replicated from a study (D. Ariely and K. Wertenbroch, 2002). The best results achieved were from high school students while put under pressure by submitting more homework on a specific date. This fact varied significantly from university students. Also there is a positive influence of age and maturing on the women's final grade. The precondition for divergent influence of different teacher's gender on men and women was not disproved.
