The impact of the credit crunch on the cost and profit efficiency of the banks: an international comparison
Babin, Adrian ; Marková, Katarína (advisor) ; Pečená, Magda (referee)
This thesis documents, using an unbalanced panel of Top 1000 World banks with observations for 2005 - 2009, three main aspects related to cost and profit efficiency in banking. First, it established that there is no correlation between a bank's rank in the Top and its rank given by the efficiency scores. However, the size of the banks plays a positive role on the cost efficiency of the institution, big banks having higher cost efficiencies than small banks. Conversely, the profit efficiency is equal across different sizes. Second, it verified that for 2005 - 2009 there is no evidence that banks from the developed countries are more efficient than banks from emerging economies. This finding is further supported by the third aspect, which shows that banks originating in the developed economies, with large exposures to more sophisticated banking products, have been hit the hardest by the financial crisis. However the banks managed to shrink their cost inefficiency while losing efficiency on the revenue side. The post crisis, 2009, proved to be a year in which banks across countries and regions converged in terms of efficiency and plateaued at about 10% and 25% for cost and profit inefficiency respectively.

Crime in the housing estate Portyč in Písek from the perspective of the majority and Romanies population
Slancová, Jana ; Temelová, Jana (advisor) ; Jíchová, Jana (referee)
Bachelor thesis deals with the research of crime and safety in the housing estate Portyč in Písek, where in addition to the majority population there is a large Romanies minority. Dance therapy
Menšíková, Marcela ; Fričová, Marie (advisor) ; Kolbová, Kateřina (referee)
Title: Dance therapy Aim: The main aim of this report was to evaluate the level of knowledge that the general public has about dance therapy and the professionalization of dance therapists. Techniques: Two different questionnaires were used in order to assist with the completion of this report. The questionnaires were sent to 15 specialist institutions and to 25 members of the general public. The first questionnaire, directed to specialist institutions consisted of 13 open questions where dance therapists could share their opinions and point of views. The second questionnaire, directed to the general public consisted of 3 closed and 1 open question. Findings: Since its inception, dance therapy is still developing. The progress is most apparent in the programme structure and content in which patients contribute themselves. Dance therapy has been slowly shifting into a scientific field. The other positive development is noticeable with patients who regularly attend dance therapy classes. The most visible improvements are in establishing contacts, patient self-esteem, perception of own body and a save release of emotions. The Dance Therapy Association endeavours to provide useful information that will bring awareness to this type of therapy so it can be used by more people. Key words: emotions,...

Late Silurian and Early Devonian Environmental and Biotic Changes
Manda, Štěpán ; Frýda, Jiří (advisor) ; Vašíček, Zdeněk (referee) ; Štorch, Petr (referee)
The mid-Ludfordian crisis (Kozlowskiii/Lau Event) was studied in detail. The extinction coincided with short-term shallowing, which reflected short glacial periode, as well as with incipient increase of organic carbon δ13 C in sediments. As suggested by many authors, this crisis affected especially graptolites and conodonts, but new data illustrate that all benthic groups were affected by the extinction. In addition, the structure of communities distinctly changed during the event. Recovery of ecosystems was accompanied by large-scale immigration of new fauna, contemporaneously with shallowing. The post-extinction interval took place during high stand and anoxic period. Extinction intervals coincide with sequence boundaries associated with gaps in sedimentation. So far poorly studied cephalopods were chosen as a model group for examination of trends in macroevolution and global change of ecosystems during the Silurian and Devonian. New established cephalopod groups that differ in embryonic strategy and mode of life of early hatched specimens and adults were used in study of biodiversity and selectivity of extinctions. The early ontogenetic strategies and size of eggs (incubation time) of the cephalopods significantly influenced survival and diversity during extinction intervals. It was documented...

August Brömse. The artist and his paintings
Kašková, Gabriela ; Prahl, Roman (referee) ; Wittlich, Petr (advisor)
The work is based on the estate of August Brömse in the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie Regensburg, which contains over 1050 letters from the period between 1902 and 1910, and a large collection of sketches and pictures. The structure of the work is determined by this material. The first part is focused on the period up to 1910. On the basis of his correspondence it investigates the artist's life after his studies in Berlin up until his establishment as Professor of Graphics at the Academy of Arts in Prague. The text not only provides a biographical study, but also gives an insight into the cultural life of "Czech Germans" in the specific context of the struggles between Czechs and Germans in Bohemia. Of special interest is the "fight" for the two posts for German professors at the Academy, which lasted four years and was very important for Brömse. The second part is devoted to Brömse's paintings from the period after 1910, which have not yet been treated adequately in research on the artist. It ties in with the first part, which shows the starting points of Brömse's painting and also comments on important pictures in the context of the artist's work. The second part offers an analysis of selected significant paintings. After 1910 Brömse concentrates on religious themes in his work. Two thematic issues have...

Perception and Interpretation of Fractions by Pupils in the 5th Grade of Primary School
Vašíčková, Jana ; Tichá, Marie (advisor) ; Macháčková, Jana (referee)
The essential part of this diploma thesis is a classification of works obtained from an investigation aimed on determination of conceptions of fractions by pupils in the fifth form of the primary school. The experiment consists of four tasks, which were given to children in four different classes. I have classified produced works according to bases of division, which I had established. Mainly concerned classifications are the thematic classifying, classifying in accordance with the "type of children's works" and classifying based on occurred interpretations of fractions. I was trying to find such criterions that would state in evidence of what conceptions and knowledge of fractions do the pupils in the fifth form have. According to gained results I think that I fulfilled this goal. When I was sorting the works of children, I found out that there is a huge amount of large-scaled works that can become basis for another research.

The use of multichannel flow cytometry in biomedicine and experimental biology
Kideryová, Linda
Linda Kideryová USE OF MULTICHANNEL FLOW-CYTOMETRY IN BIOMEDICINE AND EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGY SUMMARY Flow-cytometry is a process on which large numbers of single cells are quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. This method gives information about size, granularity surface or intracellular markers of every single cell in suspension. In modern biology is worthy to perform quick, objective multiparametric analyses of cell phenotype. This project was focused on cells, which analyses are complicated by extreme rareness or lack of clearly identifying specific markers. Analysis of stromal cells of the investigated tumors (histiocytoma and tumor fibroblasts originating in squamous epithelium: basalioma (BCCF) and spinalioma (SCCF) elucidated alteration of gene expression induced by tumor cells. Tumor-derived stromal fibroblasts acquire distinct properties to shape a microenvironment conducive to altering the phenotypic characteristics of normal epithelial cells in vitro. Reproducible, quick and highly sensitive method of detection extremely rare non-haematopoetic cells (EPC, CEC) was established. Numbers of CFU-En correlate neither with circulating endothelial progenitors nor with matured endothelial cells detected by flow-cytometry. These colonies are formed in cooperation of CD14 + and CD4+ cells. Numbers of...
