First Aid to drowning People in the Place of Event
DUDOVÁ, Apolena
The theoretic part of the baccalaureate thesis is focused on providing first aid to drowning persons, on providing proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and on the possibility of using rescue and protective aids. This part explains principal causes of drowning, warns about places where drowning occurs most often, and indicates ways of prevention and safety. The purpose of the research part of the thesis was to determine whether the lay public has any theoretic knowledge of providing first aid to drowning persons. A quantitative method was used in the research part for data collection. The data was obtained using questionnaires, which were distributed to the lay public in the Uherské Hradiště region. The questionnaire was anonymous and included 14 questions. There was only one correct answer to every question. The questions were used to determine theoretic knowledge of first aid provision to drowning persons and theoretic knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The hypothesis presumed that the lay public had theoretic knowledge in providing first aid to drowning persons. However, the opposite followed from the defined criterion used to prove or disprove the hypothesis and from the quantitative investigation results, i.e. that the lay public did not have theoretic knowledge in providing first aid to drowning persons. Thus the hypothesis was disproved based on the research. The lay public showed insufficient knowledge particularly of cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures. The research concluded that the lay public should be more interested in the procedures and novelties in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as in the basics of first aid. Also, acquaintance with first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be more and better available to the lay public. A solution could be offered by compulsory first aid courses for all professions, provided by employers on a yearly basis at least.

KOHUTOVÁ, Renáta
Abstract: It is very important for the whole society to pay attention to the health condition of small children. The thesis is focused on a possible effect of chemical and toxic substances which may endanger child{\crq}s health every day. In every house with children there are many types of food, products, medicine, or also plants which can endanger children. According to the research (e.g. with milk, vitamin A or paracethamol) there are provable food items unsuitable for children in many cases. Also house plants or bushes commonly grown at home or at yards in pre-schools may also be a cause of health problems of small children. Another important aspect, which is often neglected by parents, is a material that the toys are made of. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the research which was carried out at the territory of Karviná region in 19 pre-schools (PS). There were two files of entities designed for the needs of the thesis. In one file there are 87 pedagogical workers who are employed in pre-schools. The second file covers 155 parents whose children attend randomly selected pre-schools. Both parents and pedagogical workers were asked similar questions in the form of questionnaire, which are related to the information from the area of civilian protection. The main topic here was the danger of hazardous chemical substances release. These questions were to test theoretical competence of adults to react in proper way in such cases, immediately and correctly, thus protecting themselves and children mainly. The conclusion with both groups is that the knowledge from the area of civilian protection is insufficient. Most of the respondents (67 % of teachers and 57 % of parents) would not react in a correct way. Only a very little part of the questioned persons was able to name some of the tools of the individual protection. These outcomes were then handed to the Fire Rescue Brigade of the Moravian-Silesian Region, and they will be used as support material for making changes in the system of information for citizens, and especially pedagogy workers in the area of civilian protection. One of the possible benefits of this thesis is also a creation of an education aid for the officers in duty with handicapped citizens.

Venous blood taking - routine issue for nurses?
JELÍNKOVÁ, Petra
Venous blood taking belongs to frequent nursing procedures of a nurse. Venous blood is easily accessible biological material, whose valid result enables to specify the diagnosis of a disease and to begin appropriate treatment in an inpatient. At present the Health Service emphasises quality improvement of nursing care. There are executed standards of nursing procedures in hospitals and nurses are obliged to follow them. Venous blood taking is one of those procedures. There are two objectives of the thesis - to examine knowledge of nurses in the hospital of Tabor, Ltd. concerning the issue of venous blood taking and to research nurses? workplace and procedures during venous blood taking at sampling points. Quantitative and qualitative research was applied to achieve the above mentioned objectives. The questionnaires were distributed to nurses at standard hospital wards. Five respondents, working at sampling points in South Bohemian Region, took part in the interviews. The first hypothesis, whether nurses follow the standard nursing procedure when taking the venous blood, was proved. The second hypothesis, whether nurses are aware of the fact that they can influence the final analysis of the blood sample by the procedure itself, was proved. The third hypothesis, whether nurses are aware of the negative factors of pre-analytic variability, was also proved by the research. The last hypothesis, number four, whether nurses have the knowledge of the proper sequence of the sampling tubes, as the answers demonstrated, was not proved. Three research questions could be answered as follows. Nurses at sampling points do have adequate work background that provides calm and safe procedure of venous blood taking. Blood taking nurses follow the right procedure that guarantees a valid sample of blood taken. The respondents at sampling points know and follow elaborated standard nursing procedures. I find this procedure correct, safe and the only one that ensures quality samples taken. The research revealed that for nurses in hospitals, unlike nurses at sampling points, venous blood taking is a routine matter and that they have their own trained process to do that. On the grounds of both, the literature on this subject and the results of the research, I would like to suggest particular adjustments of the standard nursing procedure to the management of the hospital of Tabor. The nurses will have a manual drawn up by me available. The manual might serve as a proper routine procedure of venous blood taking.

In the first chapter of the theoretical section the term nurse is introduced, and it is dealt with her duties, roles, attitudes, it is explained who a mentor nurse is and what topics a pilot certified course contains. The next four chapters are focused on a supervisor´s personality, supervision issues, teachers and their non-traditional roles and the didactic skills of a mentor. The description of a mentor´s didactic skills is divided into education, student diagnostics, teaching goals and classroom practices. The sixth part deals with student clinical practice mentors, their role in clinical practice, assessment and feedback and mentorship as an advancement of nurses´ work. The seventh chapter of the theoretical section introduces the issue of communication as an integral part of nursing practice teaching and in the last section we have focused on the issue of evidence-based nursing. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of nursing practice teaching on a mentor nurse´s attitude to nursing care provision and students´ evaluation of a mentor nurse´s achievements in nursing care provision. The outcomes of the quantitative research, conducted by using a questionnaire method, confirm the hypothesis 1 suggesting that students regard mentor nurses´ nursing procedures as standards for their future practice. We can also confirm the hypothesis 3 suggesting that students believe that a mentor nurse considers the correct information registration into nursing documentation as necessary, and also the hypothesis 2 suggesting that students believe that a mentor nurse can communicate more effectively than other staff nurses was confirmed. Mentor nurses´ attitudes to nursing care provision were identified by using qualitative investigation by asking research questions. Out of the six nurses interviewed, four mentor nurses consider mentorship as knowledge contribution to the field of communication with people, four mentor nurses consider mentorship as stimulation for improving their own expertise, four mentor nurses would be willing to introduce new knowledge into practice and provide nursing care in accordance with the EBN. The knowledge gained form this research work may serve as a suggestion and aid for students planning to carry out clinical nursing practice at a clinic, for nurses who have been working or have been preparing to work as clinic mentor nurses, and certainly for all of those who wish to learn more on this issue and to understand the mentor nurse job.
