The lifestyle of secondary school students in the town of Havlíčkův Brod.
ŠAUFLOVÁ, Lucie
The lifestyle of secondary school students in the town of Havlíčkův Brod. The objective of my thesis was to call attention to the current possible risks of adolescents at secondary schools who live an inappropriate lifestyle. This is primarily the risk of becoming addicted to alcohol and smoking. The consumption of alcohol and smoking is very widespread among young people in the Czech Republic. The lifestyle of adolescents is affected by numerous factors. It is important to beginning teaching children a healthy lifestyle as soon as possible. Addiction to alcohol and smoking adversely affects the human body and causes very many diseases. The thesis presents up-to-date information about the lifestyle of secondary school students in the town of Havlíčkův Brod. The age at which a child or adolescent acquires his first experience with alcohol or cigarettes has markedly decreased in the past two years. This fact, of course, disturbs a wide range of experts from ranks of pedagogues, educators, medical workers, and other experts. Czechs belong among the leading consumers of alcoholic drinks in the Word. The number of smokers among adolescents increases daily. The risk of premature death is associated with this. A lifestyle belongs among important factors that can influence not only behaviour but also a person's health.
Using and overusing of drugs in individual types of high schools in the region of Teplice and their mutual comparison
VÁCLAVOVÁ, Petra
The thesis addresses the issue of use and abuse of drugs in individual types of secondary schools in the district of Teplice and their mutual comparison. The theoretical part describes the issue of drug and other than drug addictions and their impacts on the target population of the secondary-school youth. It also describes individual drugs in respect of their effects and risks of intoxication, protective factors and risk situations. The research was conducted in secondary schools in the district of Teplice. The comparison involved a secondary vocational school, a secondary technical school ended with the final school-leaving examination and a grammar school. The first hypothesis assumes that most of students attending secondary schools have experience in respect of drugs. The second hypothesis assumes that drugs are taken for the first time before reaching the fifteenth year of age. The third hypothesis assumes that the drug most widespread among students is marihuana. The last hypothesis assumes that the minimum of three per cent of students have experience in sniffing of volatile substances.
The effects of price on alcohol consumption
Janovský, Stanislav ; Hlaváč, Petr (advisor) ; Potužák, Pavel (referee)
This paper considers the relationship between alcohol price and alcohol consumption in the Czech republic in years 1996 - 2008. The purpose of the paper is to find appropriate econometric model and identify the price elasticity of alcohol demand in the Czech Republic. Simultaneous equations model was chosen as the most suitable one. No statistically significant relationship between alcohol price and alcohol consumption was proved for any type of alcoholic beverage. The second part of the project studies the effort of states to regulate the alcohol consumption using the rise in prices. It deals with consumption taxes and minimum prices, nowadays very discussed topic in Europe. It endeavours to estimate the real impact of the regulation and compares minimum prices with consumption taxes.

Alcohol and Cigarettes: Substitutes or Complements?
Totzauer, Přemysl ; Koblovský, Petr (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
This paper uses agregate level data in the Czech Republic from 1995 to 2008 to estimate if alcohol and cigarettes are complements or substitutes. The question whether alcohol and cigarettes are substitutes or complements is crucial for considering efficient anti-drug policies, however there has been only a few discussion regarding this topic. My estimation results suggest that cigarette price plays a significant role in both cigarettes and alcohol demand and an increase in cigarette price leads to a decrease in both cigarettes and alcohol consumption. This suggest that alcohol is a complement to cigarettes and anti-drug policy focused on cigarettes causes double win effect. Alcohol price increase leads to increase in cigarette consumption but alcohol price is statistically signifficant neither in alcohol nor in cigarette consumption, therefore we can't use this as evidence for cigarettes being substitutes to alcohol.
Influence of tabacco and alcohol advertising on consumer
Kopecká, Tereza ; Pešek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Skokanová, Dagmar (referee)
In my work I deal with alcohol ads and their influence on consumer behavior. Tobacco advertising has been prohibited due to tobacco malignity. Accordingly, there are not likely to encourage smoking. Whether the consumption decreased after the ban is also included in this work. Since alcohol is currently a problem not only juveniles but also adults and intensity of consumption continues to rise, there is a need to deal with this problem. The aim of my work is to determine whether alcohol advertising affects consumer choices in the consumption of alcohol.
Laterality and other factors affecting wages in PR agencies
Borovská, Radka ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
Left-handed persons are expected to earn less as a penalty for their unstandard hand orientation. However, it was discovered, that the reality is opposite (Denny, O'Sullivan 2007). This thesis examines on a sample of employees of PR agencies in the Czech republic success of left-handed persons in work according to their wage, frequency of promotions and working position. There was no correlation with laterality observed. Another tested part is their alcohol consumption and frequency of their visits in pubs, which should positively influence their wages, if their consumption is moderate (Peters, Stringham 2006). However, it was discovered, that wages are influenced by sex, but not by laterality, even alcohol consumption does not influence wages. Smoking influence amount of wages in a negative way (Levine et al. 1997) and is more common between left-handed persons (Ernest Harburg, Anna Feldstein, James Papsdorf 1978). There is a relationship between laterality and smoking, but there is no effect of smoking on wages at all.
Does level of aggressiveness in society influence number of road fatalities in country?
Cvrček, Jakub ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Stejkoza, Josef (referee)
The thesis analyses the relationship between level of aggressiveness in society and number of road fatalities using data from the states of European union from 2004 to 2008. It describes socioeconomic determinants that explain violent behavior in countries and than focuses on individual rate of aggressiveness and rate of aggressiveness in society. Regression analysis is made by fixed effects method after that. The analysis confirms positive relationship between rate of aggressiveness in society (measured by homicide rate and number of housebreaking) and number of road fatalities. Others significant variables were evaluated GDP growth, tax ratio amount, unemployment rate, number of doctors, young people ratio, alcohol consumption, seat belt using and number of passenger-kilometers in country. The mechanism of their effect on road fatalities rate is discussed. Estimated results were used to formulation of recommendation for reduce number of road fatalities.
The perception of tobacco and alcohol advertisement
Vondráková, Radka ; Koudelka, Jan (advisor) ; Vávra, Oldřich (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to find out what is the position of the Czech society to advertising, tobacco and alcoholic products and advertising of these products, if this position differs for men and for women and for university students. In order to achieve my goals, I used the analysis of secondary data from Market & Media & Lifestyle -- TGI, the analysis of primary data obtained from the internet questionnaire and comparison of results of both analyses. On this basis, I came to conclusion that despite university students have more negative relationship to smoking than respondents of MML-TGI and, conversely, more positive relationship to alcohol than respondents of the second research, more students than respondents MML-TGI think that tobacco and alcohol advertising should not be prohibited.
Business Cycle and Traffic Fatalities
Hátle, Lukáš ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Jaklín, Jiří (referee)
The paper tests the hypothesis regarding the assumed relation between economic cycle and mortality caused by road traffic accidents. The analysis has been done using fixed effect regression method on panel data collected in 20 EU member countries between years 1995-2008. The results (with a limited significance) may show that one percentage point decrease of the unemployment rate results in a one percentage increase in the road traffic mortality rate. The effect is caused by the increased traffic intensity as well as by changes in the drivers' behaviour that accompany the economic growth (e.g. higher consumption of alcoholic beverages). The results hint further that the strength of the relation differs for various age categories. The strongest relation between the economic cycle and the mortality was found for the young generation, 15-29 years of age. In this age group, one percentage point decrease in the unemployment rate means 1.77% increase in the road traffic mortality rate.
