Tato práce se zabývá vztahem mezi alkoholem a cigaretami a pomocí agregátních dat v ČR za období 1995 -- 2008 zjišťuje, jestli jsou tyto dvě drogy substituty, komplementy nebo se jedná o statky vzájemně nezávislé. Otázka, jestli jsou alkohol a cigarety substituty nebo komplementy je zásadní otázkou pro úspěšnost politických zásahů proti užívání těchto drog, přesto je jí věnováno velmi málo prostoru. Práce dochází k závěru, že cena cigaret má významný vliv jak na spotřebu cigaret, tak na spotřebu alkoholu a zvýšení ceny cigaret vede k snížení poptávky po obou statcích. Alkohol je tedy komplementem k cigaretám. Politika zaměřená proti kouření tak přináší dvojí efekt. Zvýšení ceny alkoholu dle modelu vede ke zvýšení spotřeby cigaret, cena cigaret se však ukázala jako statisticky nevýznamná v obou rovnicích poptávky a toto zjištění tedy nemůže být považováno jako důkaz pro substituční vztah cigaret k alkoholu. This paper uses agregate level data in the Czech Republic from 1995 to 2008 to estimate if alcohol and cigarettes are complements or substitutes. The question whether alcohol and cigarettes are substitutes or complements is crucial for considering efficient anti-drug policies, however there has been only a few discussion regarding this topic. My estimation results suggest that cigarette price plays a significant role in both cigarettes and alcohol demand and an increase in cigarette price leads to a decrease in both cigarettes and alcohol consumption. This suggest that alcohol is a complement to cigarettes and anti-drug policy focused on cigarettes causes double win effect. Alcohol price increase leads to increase in cigarette consumption but alcohol price is statistically signifficant neither in alcohol nor in cigarette consumption, therefore we can't use this as evidence for cigarettes being substitutes to alcohol.
