Intoxication by ethanol or others addictive substances in emergency medicine
KUŠNIERIK, Štěpán
The thesis Intoxication by ethanol or others addictive substances in emergency medicine is divided into two parts dealing respectively with a theoretical and experimental study of drug and alcohol intoxication. The theoretical part deals with treating patients under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This part contains description of addictive drugs and how they influence and are distributed into the human body. The thesis also deals with symptoms of drug intoxication and proposes a treatment method. The task of this thesis was to observe whether urgent care staff has sufficient theoretical knowledge of drug and alcohol intoxication and if they use correct methods while dealing with patients and moreover if they have their own drug experience. The research part was carried out using quantitative method. The data were obtained from a form intended for all medical staff in emergency medical service field (doctors, paramedics, nurses, drivers) and was filled in at different emergency medical service clinics and departments of anesthesiology in Zdravotnická záchranná služba Jihočeského kraje, Zdravotnická záchranná služba Libereckého kraje, Nemocnice Českéch Budějovice and Masarykova městská nemocnice v Jilemnici. The hypothesis states that medical staff is aware of techniques and procedures administered to intoxicated patients - primary medical care and transportation. A few of the medical staff admitted to experimenting with drugs. The results support the hypothesis. I hope this thesis will be helpful not only to medical staff, but also to public and servers as an inspiration to further approaches.
The Issue of Alcohol Dependence in Adolescents
FILIPOVÁ, Darina
Researches focused on the issues of alcohol addiction performed in the Czech Republic show that the number of alcohol addicts is higher every year and alcoholism has become a serious public health problem. There are more and more addicts every year, which is except others backed by the words that MUDr. Petr Popov, senior consultant of the Addiction Treatment Department of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague, said to the Právo daily on 10 March 2010: ?We used to have about 300 thousand alcohol addicts. Now there are between 600 and 700 thousand. There are twice as many men as women, but women have been gaining on men?. As an article in the Mladá Fronta Dnes of 21 February 2012 says, the number of young alcohol consumers is increasing, while about a fifth of 16 year olds admit drinking five or more glasses at least three times a month. This results from 2011 research quoted in the above article. My thesis dealing with the issues of alcohol addiction in teenagers wants to map the situation among teenagers of České Budějovice region and their knowledge of the impacts of excessive alcohol consumption on their personal and family lives, social lives and relations. The theoretical part deals with the problems of the process and occurrence of alcohol addiction in general and with the social and health consequences of excessive alcohol consumption, with the factors influencing teenagers to consumption of alcohol and other drugs and prevention in the field of addiction focused on teenagers. In the research part I particularly focus on socioeconomic background of young respondents, personal experience with alcohol and marginally on the other addictive substances. I also focus on mapping the knowledge of the consequences of alcohol consumption, influence of environment and of free time activities. I applied quantitative research, in the form of a questionnaire. My research shows that most of teenagers are aware of the consequences of alcohol consumption or abuse, but they do not limit alcohol consumption in their lives and they actually increase its consumption as they are growing older. More systematic application of training seminars focused on more consistent care about personal and social development and better orientation of free time activities can definitely contribute to prevention of alcohol abuse, of addiction development among teenagers, to further improvement of their knowledge and skills used for alcohol consumption reduction and consequent addiction. Better legislation measures in the field of punishing young users of alcohol and drugs would undoubtedly contribute as well.

Voráč, Michal ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Princ, Peter (referee)
The aim of this study was to explore the relation between alcohol consumption and excise duties concerning alcohol. After a short presentation of alcohol itself we mentioned the possibilities of econometrics and in the following part we used econometric modelling for our estimates. We satisfactorily explained the consumption of wine and the change in consumption of spirits in reaction to change of excise duties concerning it. We made conclusion that at least the consumption of spirits can be affected by excise duties.
The impact of nex luxury cars on road traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the Czech Republic
Zapletal, Jan ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
This paper analyzes the negative effect of new luxury cars on road traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the Czech Republic. The analysis has been done using linear regression method on time series dataset for years 1991-2010. The results may show (with low significance) that 1 % increase in share of luxury cars on total number of registered vehicles results in 0.39% decrease of road traffic deaths accidents and 0.03% decrease in number of seriously injured persons. Results, which are contradictory to other previous studies, were probably caused by the broader definition of luxury cars, including new classes which weren't included in earlier papers. The results may show as well that new luxury cars don't increase significantly the risk of death for car passengers in other vehicles, what may have been due to prevailing share of low risk luxury cars in traffic than the higher risk ones. Very surprising finding is that with increasing alcohol consumption there would be less people seriously injured. The increase in alcohol consumption by 1 % would decrease the number of seriously injured people by 2.36 %. It is probably caused by the responsibility of the people who in threat of the punishment didn't drive a car after they have consumed alcohol. The impact of demerit point system may show, that its introduction decrease accidents fatality rates by 2.31 %.

In a particular chapter of this work each factor is described. Alcoholism has been a social problem for many years. Alcohol is very dangerous chemical substance especially for adolescents, because the addiction makes up faster and infleunces their health more seriously than the health of the adults. After some drinks usual behaviour may be changed, the person can lose inhibition or starts talking more freely. On the other hand, he or she may become aggresive or depressed. In the worse situation a man may come to comatose or a man can even die. The studies have shown that teenagers who abuse alcohol {--} in comparison with some of their peers - have problems with memory, learning and other brain activities. However if the drinking continues auting young adulthood, the damage of brain may grow and become too dangerous. It can lead to the brain disorder. Alcohol is regarded being a tolerated soft drug in the Czech Republic. Therefore alcohol is available for adolescents. Teenagers can often find it at home. That´s why family enviroment connected with upbriginng can be one of the most important factors which influences consumation of alcohol by adolescents. The object of this research was the first contact of teenagers with alcohol. At what opportunity they drink alcohol at the present time, how often they drink and how they spend their leissure time. Whether they spend their leissure time only with their friends or with their parents too. Research was provided by the questionnaire form. The target group was the pupils who were from fifteen till twenty years old. Research showed, that the most of teenagers had tasted alcohol before they were fifteen years old. Today they regularly drink alcohol once a week and half of them spend their free time with friends and half of them with their family.
What happens in Vegos does not stay in Vegos
Barczi, Šimon ; Lahvička, Jiří (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
The main objective of this paper is to measure and examine demand for commodities offered in the Los Vegos bar in Marianske Lazne. In my experiment, I will be randomly changing price of draught beer in range from 23 to 33 CZK for 30 consecutive days. Each day, I will observe consumption of all goods offered in the bar. I will also analyze a year-long time line with detailed consumption of every product the bar offers . I will measure the own-price elasticity of beer and the cross-price elasticities of other products. My paper will be useful for bar owners to set an optimal price and stock of the goods they offer.
