The United States, Truman and the Foundation of the State of Israel on the Eve of the Cold War
Zubina, Jan ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Fojtek, Vít (referee)
History gives Harry S. Truman rightful merit for his help in establishing Jewish homeland in 1948. Although more than 63 years have passed since the declaration of Israeli independence, the true motives that lead President Truman to recognize Israel are still being discussed and disputed. Shortly after his inauguration in April 1945, the thirty-third president found himself in a difficult position when a majority of the Jews who had survived Nazi concentration camps could not or did not want to return to their countries of origin. Instead, they declared their wish to emigrate to Palestine, where Zionists had already been trying to establish a Jewish commonwealth. However, at that time there was a widespread uncertainty whether Franklin Delano Roosevelt's successor would have the same opinion about the post-World War II settlement in Palestine or not. It is the objective of this thesis to analyze the complex set of reasons that made President Truman support political Zionism. As we know, this process ultimately culminated with a prompt recognition of a newly established Jewish state. To answer the question what was the main reason behind this decision, domestic and external factors the president had to consider will be examined. The emphasis will be placed on American military and economic interests...

Electrotactile sensory substitution in patients with degenerative cerebellar ataxia
Svojítková, Tereza ; Čakrt, Ondřej (advisor) ; Paulasová - Schwabová, Jaroslava (referee)
Introduction: Biofeedback based on sensory substitution is a new method to treat patients with postural disorders. BrainPort provides tongue electrotactile stimulation. This innovative technique was developed for vestibular dysfunction of peripheral origin. Primarily for patients who had no benefits from conventional rehabilitation. Tongue electrotactile stimulation seems to be useful for central vestibula dysfunction as well. We are dealing with effect of BrainPort in therapy of degenerative cerebellar ataxia. We are interested in whether the effects persist for one month after the rehabilitation program. Methods: The methods are applied in 6 patients with degenerative cerebellar ataxia, verified by clinical testing, posturography, and genetic testing or verification of cerebellar lesions by MRI. Patients underwent an 12-day intensive rehabilitation program with BrainPort. Treatment was carried out 2 times a day. Patients were learning appropriate postural corrections to maintain signal in the middle of the tongue. To assess the effect of therapy we used posturography, standardized clinical tests - BESTest, Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) and standardized questionnaires - The Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC) and Dizzines Inventroy Handicap (DHI). The examination was performed before...

Semiotic Engineering and rules for interaction design
Prokop, Pavel ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Slavíček, Daniel (referee)
Semiotic Engineering is one of semiotic approaches to human-computer interaction problematics. Its theory is based on a simple notion of interface beeing a designers deputy through which the designer comunicates with users of this interface. Telling them, how to work with a program, he or she designed for them. Apart from teoretical foundation, semiotic engineering dispose also with research methods that can be used to evaluate a way an interface communicates with its users. This way it can compare with other non-semitic theories in this branch of research and thanks to its orientation to communication, it is even able to bring new points o wiev. Its theory and methods are used in this thesis as a basis for creation of a set of rules for user interface designers, that shoul serve them as guidelines for their thinking about interface. It turns out that semiotic theory is capable of bringing concerete results for praxis in the area of interaction design and it is not bound only to the academic enviroment.

In Czech republic there has been insurance liability for damage incurred running vehicles and wrecking crane insurance till now. Abroad indeed begins extend unprecedented product of motor-vehicle insurance known as Pay As You Drive that derives benefits from absolutely new methods at construction insurance.Insurance is invoiced on the basis of real mileage. For data gathering there are exploited different counter circuit functional mainly on the basis of GPS navigation.Aim of diploma work was analysis of this new kind of insurance, evaluation of its fruitfulness, serviceability and possibilities of its aplication in Czech republic. At the end of my thesis there was effected analysis of GAP insurance that can be negotiate in Czech republic already. Schweiner, Petr ; Staša, Josef (advisor) ; Prášková, Helena (referee)
Resume This work deal with Expropriation of buildings and land in Czech Republic. Main part of this work is dealing with the new Expropriation Act, which became effective from 1 January 2007, but not only, because this act is one of several act, where expropriation is regulated. More important regulation is included inthe Czech Bill of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, where is determined constitutional principles of Expropriation and limitation of property rights. THE ANALYSIS OF THE ROMANIAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT -- FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE TRANSFORMATION UNTIL THE INTEGRATION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION
Ilinitchi, Cristina ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Korandová, Jiřina (referee)
Romania, as other Central and Eastern European countries, was after 1989 in the position to make the choice regarding its future development. Economists have added a new word to their vocabulary -- the economic transformation. The work focuses on the process of economic transformation in Romania after 1989. The first part deals with the main theoretical approaches to the process of transformation. The theoretical part is followed by the analysis of the most important economical indicators and other features of the Romanian economic transformation. The accession of Romania to the European Union is also stressed out. The conclusion of the work summarises the successes and failures of the transformation process in Romania.

Media Image of the Romani
Divíšková, Jaroslava ; Vojtěchovský, Miroslav (advisor) ; Moravcová, Mirjam (referee)
This master's thesis presents the media image of the Czech Romani and the origins of stereotyping them in relation to the individual photography project of the American portrait photographer Chade Evans Wyatt. The thesis propose two interrelated questions. While the first one is concerned with the media image of Romani as constructed by the Czech daily newspapers and television from the 1990s to the beginning of the 21st century. The second question reviews the significance of the monothematic part of Wyatt's artwork, who within the same time attempted both to create and present a new media image of the Czech Romani that would confront the stereotypical approach of the majority to the Romani, which at the beginning became the major motive for that project.

Financial evaluating of industrial investment
Konieczny, Janusz ; Sieber, Martina (advisor) ; Vávrová, Hana (referee)
The main goal of my thesis is to evaluate industrial investment in the field of metallurgical basic industry. It is extrafurnace desulfurization of pig iron as a interface in the three-chain : production of pig iron - desulfurization - steel manufacture. There is a capital project in the metallurgical concern Třinecké železárny, a.s. in Třinec, in the year of 2008, financed from internal resources. Investment effect is calculated only from the cash-flows, investment acquisition is expressed simplifiedly by the reduction of operating costs. There are positive findings, which are based on calculation of investment criterions. The investment of desulfurization is very modern and effective and has a very low economic return.
