Sejáková, Andrea ; Josek, Jiří (referee) ; Kalivodová, Eva (advisor)
The thesis looks into the status of Czech translation criticism in the period from the 1960s until the year 2005. Research is based on articles evaluating pro se and poetry translations from English that appeared in Czech literary journals in the period under discussion. In addition, the thesis gathers together relevant findings of Czech and Slovak translation studies, and particular contributions to translation 'meta-criticism' (i.e. criticisms of trans lati on criticism). Throughout the period under examination, critiques of prose and poetry translations from English appeared in around twenty literary joumals. In chapter 2, these periodicals are described in terms of their interest in translation issues and translation criticism in particular. Chapter 3 gives an account of the development of translation criticism with focus on the relevant critiques and shows the changes that the frequency and style of translation criticism underwent. For this purpose, critical articles are divided into four categories according to the length and profundity of the analyses employed. As the frequency charts for individua! decades show, the period 1960-2005 witnessed a shift from single-word evaluations in the 1960s to more detailed critiques in the 1990s and after the year 2000. Kosáková, Eva ; Rybářová, Marie (advisor) ; Hadaš, Lubomír (referee) ; Hosák, Ladislav (referee)
The Burn Out Syndrome with Nurses and Its Prevention The aim of my graduation work was to give a description of the burn out syndrome and to identify preventive measures used in the monitored hospital wards. In the theoretical part of my paper I have described the personality in general and tried to explaine the burn out syndrome, its causes and the way it might be diagnosed. In the following part I have dealt with the personality of a nurse, the prophylaxis in the nursing profession, the communication skills and coping with stress. In the practical part I have presented a field research carried out in the hospital in Liberec. I have use original questionnaires which were answered in the following wards: an intensive care unit, an outpatient department and a standard ward. It is true that the results of the survey are not explicit but nevertheless a certain favourable relationship between superiors and nurses has been found. The work of nurses in the intensive care unit is very demanding and even more stressful for young nurses. The burn out syndrome has not been properly followed up in all cases. Prophylaxis is the most important thing in this Arespect.

The relation of conversion as a system relation
Kováčová, Kateřina ; Chlupáčová, Kamila (advisor) ; Giger, Markus (referee) ; Panevová, Jarmila (referee)
The relation of conversion is a semantic relation between lexemes ( or between other typ es of language expressions) that is assessed- as far as its appurtenance to the system oflanguage is concemed - in various theories of language in a different way. Informally, these expressions are usually considered to be in the relation of conversion which "denote the same situation always from a different perspective", such as e.g. the verbs dát - dostat, prodat - koupit, půjčit- půjčit si, vyhrát- prohrát or the nouns vítězství- porážka. In this thesis, the relation of conversion is regarded as a type of a semantic relation that is inherent in the language system and therefore it should be included in the whole theoretical description of language. The author tries to support this standpoint that issues from a more or less intuitive observation of the properties of lexemes in the conversion relation and from their comparison with other lexemes by a consequent description of the nature of the semantic relation of conversion within the formally constructed theory of the Functional Generative Description of Language (FGD). This task is necessarily associated with specific modifications (extensions) of the terrninological framework of FGD because in the theory of FGD the field of lexical semantics has not yet been...
