During chronological mapping of human history and the landscape is the work of several seemingly disparate findings, but then here they reveal their logical context. The analysis takes mainly from an environmental perspective. Also it reminds of the current civilization problem which is moving away from nature and presents a solution in building a relationship between children and nature through visual arts. In this thesis a specific realization of classes on this topic is described, properly prepared for instruction in regular classrooms of urban schools. Ondrušková, Andrea ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
The thesis is a study of the magazine Ženské Listy (The Women's Gazette), which was the first magazine published for Czech women in the United States. The magazine was founded by Josephine Humpal-Zeman and Karla Machova in 1894 in Chicago. Josephine Humpal-Zeman was an editor and publisher of the journal in Chicago and Karla Machova worked as a contributor from Bohemia. The aim of this thesis is to examine the magazine in the period of 1894-1901 when it was edited by Humpal-Zeman. The thesis reveals the circumstances in which the magazine was founded; it attempts to reconstruct the development of the journal, and it also provides a content analysis of the first seven volumes. The thesis is based on the research of the first seven volumes of the magazine and the study of other primary and secondary sources. Wider historical context is explored in the first two chapters. The focus is on the Czech community living in the United States and the general developments in the American society in the second half of the 19 century. Since the Women's Gazette was a fairly progressive women's journal, the thesis contains also subchapters dealing with the woman question and the history of women's magazines in both countries.

Forgotten villa by Karel Hannauer and the sociology of family housing
Hrabová, Martina ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee)
The impulse for this work was the archive discovery that enabled identification of an early work of the architect Karel Hannauer. In Prague quarter Libeň the author revealed a functionalist villa, previously known only from an article in a contemporary journal, hidden under a radical reconstruction made in the late thirties. The work covers several thematic issues. It deals with Karel Hannauer's participation in forming the Czechoslovak interwar architecture and his contribution to the transition of foreign influences (especially Le Corbusier's) to the Czech architectural design. The author focuses particularly on the architecture of family houses and in details describes four villas that Hannauer designed during the period of ten years before World War II. She also follows the changes of the political regimes influenced the structure of inhabitants and how the usage patterns and the appearance of the houses were changed during the time. By this way the thesis concerns also the relationship of the architecture and the sociology of housing. Coincidently Hannauer theoretically studied and taught the sociology of the architecture in the forties and fifties, when the totalitarian regimes restricted him from his architectonical work. Besides literature, the work is based on archival documentation studies, a...

Slovak Anti-Jewish Legislation in the Years 1938 - 45 and its Application in Practice
Paleček, Lukáš ; Kuklík, Jan (advisor) ; Kindl, Vladimír (referee)
Although the Holocaust (a word for suffering of millions of individual people of vastness that stretches beyond our imagination) is a rather distressing topic I chose to carry out this re- search for two reasons, which prevailed. First, the experience shows that extreme situations reveal many latent features of human psyche - studying them is tempting. Second, the Holo- caust is a morally and politically important and still topical theme because not forgetting evil is a manner of its prevention. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse anti-Jewish law (and briefly also anti-Gypsies law) in Slovakia in the years 1938-45 and to present the idea that the tragedy of the Holocaust did not merely have causes, which can be described as political or economic or exclusively psychiat- ric (which is perhaps the most dangerous simplification), but that a significant part of what happened is explainable from the point of view of social psychology. To integrate researches in the two aforementioned scientific disciplines (legal history and so- cial psychology) in a coherent unit I chose to use the Czech penal law's concept of elements of crime. There are five elements of crime and my thesis consists of five chapters with accord- ing titles: Object of the Holocaust, Objective aspect of the Holocaust, Subject of the...

Interpretation of Place - Landscape Park Veltrusy
Matolínová, Barbora ; Marcelli, Miroslav (advisor) ; Váša, Ondřej (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with possibilities of interpretation of landscape park type ornamented farm in Veltrusy castle area in the current context. Park is treated as an artificial place, which function changes in the course of history. The concept of space is used in the sense of meaningful place, which one can understand and be identified with. In the empirical part, we try to reveal the primary structure and characteristic motifs of the park, which are important for the interpretation of its meanings in new historical context, so as to maintain its identity and dynamics. As the text has as many interpretations as readers, so has the park as many interpretations as visitors. Park enters into an ongoing dialogue with its users, but in the changing historical context. The aim of this work is not an effort to create "one holistic" interpretation of the park, but to provide the basis for individual interpretation. In conclusion we consider the possibility to convey the structure and nature of the park to visitors and make them more responsive to the identity of the park and give them the possibility of individual interpretation.

Paterová, Petra ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Roedl, Bohumír (referee)
The history of everyday life is an interesting historical branch, which brings the researcher a lot of information about family, work, entertainment, problems and other things that surround everyone and every day. In the same way, these things have influenced lives of our ancestors. The fascination with ordinary lives of early modern history is actually a desire to get to know oneself. Despite the fact that the outlook on everyday things may have changed during the centuries, what has not changed were the topics. The libri testimoniorum are a more than suitable source of information for everyday life research. Owing to the testimonies of the witnesses of the particular trials, the books unwittingly reveal many details about the life of early modern towns. Studies of these books bring motivation for researching not only the everyday history, but also culture and mentality history. Last but not least, it is important to mention research into criminality of early modern towns.
