Evolution of phonological contrast in sibilants - typological analysis
Vančura, Martin ; Bičovský, Jan (advisor) ; Duběda, Tomáš (referee)
Martin Vančura - Diplomová práce (2012) Evolution of phonological contrat in sibilants - typological analysis Abstract: The goal of this paper is to employ the paradigm of Greenbergian language typology to process diachronic data originating in the field of historical linguistics. In the first few chapters, I discuss both disciplines and identify some of the pitfalls of such an endeavour. The substance of this paper lies in chapter 4 where I try to demonstrate a real utilization of this diachronic typology on a specific set of data, represented by documented cases of the evolution of sibilants. Then I analyse the precise articulatory and evolutionary character of the sibilants in selected branches of the Indo- European language family and selected languages of the world and I attempt to uncover the common evolutionary tendencies of their sibilant systems. At the end of this chapter, I construct a map of sibilants' evolutionary trajectories and I propose some remarks on the general phonetics and phonology of sibilants.

Computer simulation and numerical analysis of compressible flow problems
Kubera, Petr
The thesis deals with the construction of an adaptive 1D and 2D mesh in the framework of the cell- centered finite volume scheme. The adaptive strategy is applied to the numerical solution of problems governed by the Euler equations, which is a hyperbolic system of PDE's. The used algorithm is applicable to non-stationary problems and consists of three independent parts, which are cyclically repeated. These steps are PDE evolution, mesh adaptation and interpolation of numerical solution from the old mesh to the newly adapted mesh. Owing to this the algorithm can be used also for other hyperbolic systems. The thesis is focused on the development of our mesh adaptation strategy, based on the anisotropic mesh adaptation, which preserves the geometric mass conservation law in each computational step. Several test problems with moving discontinuity are computed to compare our algorithm with Moving Mesh algorithms. Keywords: finite volume method, adaptive methods, geometric mass conservation law

The relationship between general intelligence faktor g, broad cognitive abilities and working memory
Čeplová, Zuzana ; Horáková Hoskovcová, Simona (advisor) ; Uhlář, Pavel (referee)
This thesis deals with the relationship between Working Memory, Working Memory Span tasks and general factor g and Broad cognitive abilities. Measured constructs are introduced in the theoretical part, with their evolution, various methods of their measurement and studies investigating the relation between them. The empirical part of the research has been conducted to verify the relationship between Working Memory and general intelligence factor g. It has been done to reveal the relationship between Working Memory Span tasks and Broad cognitive abilities as well. The question concerning the influence of the use of strategy while performing the automatic version of Working Memory Span tasks has been investigated as well.

Modely výpočetní inteligence pro hydrologické predikce
Paščenko, Petr ; Petříčková, Zuzana (referee) ; Neruda, Roman (advisor)
The thesis deals with the application of computational artificial intelligence models on hydrological predictions. The short term rainfall-runoff prediction problem is studied on the real data of physical time seriesmeasured in the watershed of river Plučnice. A brief statistical study including correlation and regression analyses is performed. The high level of variance and noise is concluded. The evolution of the proper input filter providing an input set for the neural network is performed. In the main part of the thesis several neural network models based on multilayer perceptron, RBF units, and neuroevoution are constructed together with two neural ensembles inspired by the bagging method. The models are tested on the three subsequent years summer data. The greater generalization ability of multilayer perceptron architectures is concluded. The resulting multilayer perceptron models are able to reduce the mean squared error of the prediction by 15% compared to the prediction by the previous value.

Architectural Space
Hanuš, Jiří ; Dvořák, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Bláha, Jaroslav (referee)
This work mainly describes inspiration about my several-years experience of my creation that is architectural space in two-dimensional picture. I try to show all the typical aspects more detail, which characterize it like a rhythm, light, space, shape and construction. I show this theme in various aspects of a past and present architecture and try to observe its evolution with the key historical periods. Mainly I focused on present trends, which are represented by connection of a material and inside and outside spaces.

Liability of an employer for damage
Valná, Zuzana ; Štefko, Martin (advisor) ; Hůrka, Petr (referee)
Resume This diploma work is geared to one of the distinguish part of the Employment law - The employer's liability for damage and its comparison with representative countries of European Union. At first place I've chosen for comparison the representative of anglo-american law system - Great Britain. Another state that I've selected for detailed matching is Slovakia which law system is based on the mutual basis of Czechoslovakia state. Other Member States of EU are touch on, except the Chapter about liability for industrial injury and professional diseases. In this chapter there is a view of more European states, with some glance into the countries outside EU and complete construction of damages this specific harms on health for their own importance. In constituent chapters I concentrate on categorization of the responsibility in Employment law as sub-category of Liability, its evolution with focus on the protective elements of employment legislation and on interpretation of this therm as one of the fundamental institute of law. The following chapters enumerate the types of liability which we can encounted in Employment Law and introduce their further explanation, the sense and separation to the various point of view, especially in accordance with types of injuries. The decision point of this diploma is...

NATO and WMD: Evolution of the threat construction and Alliance's response
Hrdinová, Lucie ; Rychnovská, Dagmar (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This Diploma Thesis called "NATO and WMD: Evolution of the threat construction and Alliance's response" deals with the evolution of understanding of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). WMD, especially the nuclear ones, have preoccupied NATO since its establishment. However, it was only after the end of the Cold War that NATO started to focus on WMD as a specific overarching category, consisting of chemical, biological and nuclear (since 9/11 also radiological) weapons. Despite the conspicuousness of the concept and increased use of the WMD term, the definition of weapons of mass destruction is not clear-cut. However, the way the actors understand WMD is very important. For this reason, NATO's official discourse is studied as an indicator of how is WMD understood in the Alliance, which will allow to fulfill objectives of this thesis. First, the work intends to analyze how has the WMD threat been constructed and interpreted within the Alliance since the year 1991 until this day. Secondly, this thesis aims to find out what is NATO's response to the dangers posed by the identified WMD threats (i.e. proliferation and terrorism) and identify the concrete measures the Allies undertook to tackle the evolving WMD threat. This thesis is based on...

Computational Aspects of Financial Instruments
Petr, Tomáš ; Myška, Petr (referee) ; Hurt, Jan (advisor)
This work deals with the possibilities of financial derivatives pricing. Explained are especially mathematical approaches used for modelling the development of random variables, which represent the evolution of underlying securities and interest rates. Based on this representation is then derived the pricing of various financial derivatives, mainly options, using the risk-neutral probability measure. Both the analytical pricing methods, especially those extending the Black-Scholes formula for European call and put options pricing, and the numerical and simulation pricing methods for modelling prices and interest rates based on assumptions about their distribution are involved. Mentioned are also ARCH and GARCH models for estimation of interest rates and indices distribution parametres. At the end of the work are these methods compared by application on an example of market data. Compared are various models to price the most usual types of options - analytical pricing (if available), underlying security price simulation by construction of binomial tree model, simulation of particular trajectories by Monte Carlo method.
