Space for Art
Šimášková, Lucia ; JEŽEK, Vlastimil (advisor) ; LUKEŠ, Zdeněk (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused to an adaptive re-use of buildings for cultural purposes, especially for cultural centres. The thesis depicts in short the benefits of conversion, the influence of heritage protection, offers a brief insight into the management, basic sources of funding and programming of adapted cultural spaces. There are also listed examples of good practice of various types of re-used buidings in different countries and under various conditions. The thesis mentions broad range of cultural centres located in industrial factories to churches or stone-pits. The selected examples illustrates the process as well as map the current challlenge opening in the field. A general idea of this work was to create a practical handbook for the journey of building?s adaptive re-use.

Data processing from the SDO probe
ŠEBELÍK, Václav
The presented bachelor thesis provides a very brief overview of the current knowledge about the Sun and its observations by the SOHO and SDO space missions. The theoretical part of this work describes the Sun and successful space probe missions which currently explore the Sun and its dynamics. In the practical part of this thesis we demonstrated on several examples how to process the data obtained by the devices on board of these two space probes.

Elizabeth Gaskell´s Gothic Tales
LIŠKOVÁ, Kristýna
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of nine gothic tales by an English writer of the nineteenth century Elizabeth Gaskell. These gothic tales are compared with the first gothic novels and gothic literature in general. Their analysis is carried out on the basis of spaces, heroes and themes which appear in E. Gaskell´s gothic tales. The diploma thesis reveals in which aspects Gaskell´s tales are different from the first gothic novels and which new themes, heroes and spaces were introduced by E. Gaskell. An important part of the diploma thesis consists of a brief biography of Elizabeth Gaskell. The events which influenced Gaskell´s work are especially emphasized. The diploma thesis also mentions several other authors whose works inspired E. Gaskell in writing her gothic tales.

The use of improvisation in classical music
Košnarová, Zdeňka ; Filas, Juraj (advisor) ; Bartoň, Hanuš (referee) ; Bílý, Antonín (referee)
After a short introduction the concept of improvisation is defined and the thesis traces its development, forms and possibilities from the beginnings of music itself to the second half of the 20th century. The early beginnings of the development are captured in a brief summary. The explanation of the concept of jazz and basic types of jazz improvisation follows. The last - third - chapter deals with improvisation inartificial music of the second half of the 20th century, particularly the aleatory music and the so called improvised music. The thesis concentrates on the improvised music phenomenon in detail. Several subchapters explain the relation between improvised music and composition, space, visual arts, written scores, and the usage of traditional and nontraditional musical instruments in this music, and also form, feedback system and the improvised music reduction. The conclusion of this thesis reflects the use of improvisation in an original composition.

The Earth Atmosphere and Astronomical Observations
ZBEJVALOVÁ, Jana
This work has the task outline view of the astronomical observations, not only in the Earth's atmosphere, but also in the far space. It provides a brief overview of the first optical devices to the latest space observatory. It also deal with the impact of anthropogenic and light pollution on astronomical observations.

Support for NUMA hardware in HelenOS
Horký, Vojtěch ; Děcký, Martin (advisor) ; Libič, Peter (referee)
The goal of this master thesis is to extend HelenOS operating system with the support for ccNUMA hardware. The text of the thesis contains a brief introduction to ccNUMA hardware, an overview of NUMA features and relevant features of HelenOS (memory management, scheduling, etc.). The thesis analyses various design decisions of the implementation of NUMA support -- introducing the hardware topology into the kernel data structures, propagating this information to user space, thread affinity to cores and nodes, memory allocation policies, load balancing, etc. The thesis also contains a prototype implementation of ccNUMA support in HelenOS for the AMD64 platform and a brief evaluation and comparison with ccNUMA support in other monolithic and microkernel-based operating systems.

Characterization of membrane pores formed by newly discovered colicin FY from Yersinia frederiksenii
Dolejšová, Tereza ; Fišer, Radovan (advisor) ; Nunvář, Jaroslav (referee)
Colicins are toxic exocellular proteins used by Gram-negative bacteria for interspecies and intraspecies competition. The colicin FY is a pore-forming protein which was recently discovered at Masaryk university. Kolicin FY is produced by strain Yersinia frederiksenii Y27601 and is active against other strains of genus Yersinia. By comparison of aminoacid sequences of C-terminal domains of selected colicins it was proved, that colicin FY is closely related to colicin Ib (Bosák et al., 2012). In this work I was trying to create brief and integrated summary about the group of colicins from the perspective of an outer membrane traslocation mechanism, overcoming the periplasmic space up to isertion of C-terminal colicin domain into the inner membrane phospholipid bilayer. Other aim of my work was to generally summarize pore properties of known colicins and compare them with recently measured characteristics of colicin FY. Keywords: colicin, Yersinia, planar lipid membranes, membrane pore

Political system of Venezuela after 1999. From democracy to authoritarianism?

On the basis of empirical observations the thesis characterizes the crucial democratic institutions and works with the qualitative analysis of their contemporary functioning. An important part of the thesis is dedicated to the role and space of the civil society, the media and the role of political parties which represent the vital tool of the evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the new socio-economic system of Socialism of the XXIst century. The Falklands war on the pages of Rudé právo
Svoboda, Karel ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee) ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor)
Bachelor thesis "The Falklands War on the Pages of Rudé právo" is about the attitude of the Czech media, particularly Rudé právo. The Falklands' war between Argentina and Great Britain occurred in mid 1982. This thesis will try to tackle some of the unanswered questions on how much space had been dedicated to this conflict by Rudé právo's pages and how it was interpreted to its readers. Above all is this an ideology of unanswered questions or is it an opposition leaning towards either side of the conflict and if so, whether and how they manifested their sympathy to justify their pages. The first part of this work is characterized by a brief historical context of the early eighties of the twentieth century, the second part is orderly devoted to practical analytical work.

The national trial with Radola Gajda 1947. A case study
Král, Martin ; Gebhart, Jan (referee) ; Šedivý, Ivan (advisor)
The topic of the study is the case of Radola Gajda, a former legionary and Czechoslovak general, before the National Court in 1947. After a short presentation of Radola Gajda, the study deals with his activity during the Second Czechoslovak Republic and the Protectorate. It outlines the origins of retributive justice, but it mostly focuses on Gajda's case. I have raised questions relating to the objectivity of the court, the way of its approach to the accused person and the possibility of interference in the judge's impartiality. I have also done some research into the way how the party press informed about this case. I have discovered that in 1947 Radola Gajda was no longer a politically important person, and I did not manage to find any significant interference into the investigation and the law case. The court gave equal space both to the defence and the plaintiff, and it sensibly assessed the evidence of both parties. The press of the individual political parties informed about the trial in a very brief way, and left-wing dailies in particular were more likely to present information aimed against the accused.
