Pištejová, Jana ; Janíčko, Martin (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is to deliver a suitable background of the mortgage crisis in the United states, which was one of the cause of financial crisis in this country as such. Because of the globalization, the crisis has spread almost everywhere. Theoretical part includes namely description of the crisis and it points out some mechanisms, which induced the US economy into the consequent recession. Also the mortgage bubble could evocate the recession. The main concern will be given to the indebtedness of american households and to transmision mechanisms in the economy itself. I will also try to analyse the role of condifedence in the economy when it comes to paying off debts and treating liabilities in general when the economy reached its business cycle peak.

The region, regional policy of the European Union and enlargement 2004
Býma, Petr ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (referee)
The thesis deals with a region as a basic building unit of the regional policy of the European Union, describing the formation and development of the European regional policy as supranational one and therefore unique on a global scale. With the increasing regional policy budget (this policy being the second most expensive in the Union), the influence of regions proper is growing as well: they are becoming more independent and emancipated. In the running process of globalisation, regions with the highest added value seem to be the best off: innovative regions with qualified labour and a strong connection with the supranational business and information networks. Metropolises, or urban centres, are faring the best in the global competition. The role of these central areas is growing stronger. The task of the regional policy is to balance the differences between these richer, central areas, and peripheral, poorer regions. The enlargement of the European Union by adding ten new member states in 2004 has been accompanied by regional policy reforms as there has been a sharp increase in the number of less developed regions, i.e. those that are entitled to draw upon funds of the European regional policy. Opinions on efficiency of the said policy differ: its proponents see it as the main tool of regional convergence...

How Bank Competition Influences Financial Stability
Vildová, Romana ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Teplý, Petr (referee)
How Bank Competition Influences Financial Stability Abstract This paper investigates the link between financial stability and bank competition by means of the Arellano & Bond (1991) GMM model using annual panel data over the period 2000 - 2014 for 205 countries. Our data source is a new, richer and updated dataset The Global Financial Development Database available at World Bank. Due to the specifics of this dataset we are able to use new combinations of measures of financial stability and of bank competition and to study their relationship in greater depth. We find a positive link between financial stability and bank competition. Furthermore, our results provide evidence that it matters what measures of financial stability and bank competition we apply. Lastly, we ascertain that the relationship between financial stability and bank competition does not change over time. Margins of Trade: Czech Firms Before, During and After the Crisis
Galuščák, Kamil ; Sutóris, Ivan
We investigate the extensive and intensive margins of trade of Czech firms in periods before, during and after the crisis of 2008–2009. The intensive margin explains most of the aggregate export growth in 2006–2014, which corroborates previous findings for other countries. The contribution of the extensive margin is smaller, explaining on average 39% of the aggregate export growth in 2006–2007 and around 25% to 30% of that in the post-crisis period. The lower contribution of the extensive margin may signal a lower rate of convergence of the Czech economy. The results indicate that the crisis had a more severe impact on small exporting firms and that exports to countries outside the EU gained more prominence in the post-crisis years. Our results are similar to findings from previous studies on the impact of participation in global value chains on firms’ trade. Specifically, a more negative impact of the crisis was observed for exports with higher import intensity. Overall, our results point to the importance of using disaggregated data in the analysis of countries’ export performance.
