It focuses on policies towards the two most populous minorities in Slovakia (Hungarian and Roma minority) mainly in two key spheres -- culture and education. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the development of the minority policy towards Hungarians and Roma people and to asses individual factors that causes its changes. The goal is also to compare the approach of government coalitions towards these two minorities. The continuity of these policies is mainly observed. Policies can be influenced by internal and external factors. International organizations -- Council of Europe, European Union and OSCE -- and Hungarians are set as external factors and different government coalition in Slovakia as internal. Last question that thesis deals with is if the triadic nexus (as characterized by Rogers Brubaker) between nationalism of Slovak government, Hungary and Hungarian minority in Slovakia can influence also minority policy towards Roma. Despite all these factors that have an influence on government's minority policy after 1993 in Slovakia, it is continual.

ZEMANOVÁ, Irena
Migration as a social process is a response to more or less complex economic, environmental, social and cultural conditions of human existence. Migration reasons have changed through history. With regard to gradual population aging, migration to the Czech Republic in the following years is not only probable, this is inevitable. Lifestyle is a major factor determinating health status and quality of life. Lifestyle is one of health determinants we can influence. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into 9 chapters. The compilation is based on monograpfic publications, professional journals and electronic sources usage. The chapters of the thesis deal with the issue of immigrants and asylum seekers, migration in the Czech Republic and migration in general, they give an account of minorities living in the Czech Republic, describe their integration, outline the problems associated with emigration and the impact of emigration on psychological and health status of an individual The asylum procedure and lifestyle factors are also mentioned. The empirical part is focused on the research of lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The objective of the thesis is to compare lifestyles of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The research took place in the town of České Budějovice, the subregion of the South Bohemian region. Questionnaire method was used to collect the research data. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 25 questions. The introductory questions were focused on respondents´ identification data, through other questions lifestyle factors and health status were investigated. Total 100 questionnaires were distributed to the institutions providing assistance to immigrants and asylum seekers. 55 questionnaires were filled in and returned, the return rate was 55%. The objective of the thesis was accomplished, the lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic in the South Bohemian region was compared to that in their countries of origin. In my opinion it is very important to focus on foreigners integration into the Czech society, because integration does not only mean for foreigners to get rid of their habits, but may also enrich our society. People come to our country in search of better living conditions and want to start a new life here. Therefore it should be part of state policy to ensure equal access and equal opportunities for immigrants. I suppose I could be beneficial to make foreigners familiar with the current situation in the Czech Republic and to draw their attention to difficulties they may encounter while seeking a better life.
International Context of The Roma Minority Human Rights Protection in Slovakia
Lackovičová, Simona ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Trávníčková, Zuzana (referee)
"The Roma Problem"is one of the most serious social problems in Slovakia. Prejudices, bad relationships between non-Roma majority and Roma minority, as well as racism, Roma rights violations are the most frequently cited issues, Slovakia is criticized for. The Government of the Slovak Republic is aware of all reasons for the criticism by international organizations or non-governmental organizations, and that is why "The Roma Problem" solution has been its priority for a long time. The Slovak Republic has already accepted lots of international commitments concerning protection of minority rights (including Roma rights) that is why I have decided to find out if Slovakia meets all its commitments. My goal is to analyse if international commitments and recommendations related to human rights affect real protection of minority rights in Slovakia. I would like to evaluate if the criticism by the international organizations is adequate and find some reasons for the criticism. Last but not least I would like to propose several recommendations based on the analyses of non- governmental organizations.

Attitudes towards ethnical and national minorities
SVOBODOVÁ, Kateřina
This Bachelor Thesis deals with the issue of attitudes of pupils of classes 7 and 8 of elementary schools of the Region of South Bohemia towards ethnical and national minorities. The theoretical part summarizes the current knowledge on selected minorities (Romany, Vietnamese, Ukrainian and American). The implementation of the practical part took place in form of quantitative-qualitative research made in February and March 2010 in classes 7 and 8 of selected elementary schools in villages under 7 000 citizens (ZŠ J. A. Komenského Blatná, ZŠ Bělčice, ZŠ Sedlice). The goal of the Thesis consisted in mapping of attitudes of the target group of pupils with differentiation by gender towards the most frequent ethnical and national minorities in the Czech Republic. The research results show that the attitudes of pupils of classes 7 and 8 towards minorities do not copy the attitudes of broad public stated in public opinion polls. Girls from the target set show more positive relationship to ethnical and national minorities than boys. It can be stated in general that pupils of classes 7 and 8 are relatively helpful and open towards minority groups of fellow citizens, but they are aware of problems related particularly to coexistence with Romany minority. Creation of positive attitudes towards minorities through school lessens and special programs and events for pupils is important with regard to the possibility of such individuals starting life without prejudices emerging in close environment of the individual on the base of stereotyped behaviour and thinking. The research shows that pupils of classes 7 and 8 are able to perceive the characteristics of the relevant groups on the base of interpretation presented by their environment but that they can also express their opinion on fellow citizens from other national and ethnical minorities they meet.
