The Engagement of US Foreign Policy at the 2000 Camp David Summit

This bachelor thesis analyzes the involvement of American foreign policy at the summit at Camp David in 2000. The summit should have been a culmination of the peace process between the Israelis and Palestinians, should have led to the signing of final agreement and should be established a lasting peace. The Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat did not sign the final agreement, however, instead of peace the second intifada was proclaimed. The final peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians has not been signed since then. Many experts believe that during the second term of the Clinton Administration, both parties were the closest to resolving the conflict. This bachelor thesis, based on research and analysis of mainly secondary sources, focuses on describing and explaining the events before and at the summit and seeks to provide an unbiased view on the influence of the United States on preparation, progress and outcome of the summit. The widely accepted US-Israeli interpretation that Ehud Barak gave an unprecedented generous offer and Yasser Arafat uncompromisingly rejected it does not represent an objective point of view. UNRWA and its activities in selected Middle East countries

The main aim of this master thesis is analyze role of UNRWA in the Middle East in 1950- 2010 based on the collected data. The main focus is on the population growth tendencies which are often criticized as the result of the UNRWA politics and which might be prolonging the conflict in the area. Second part of this thesis focuses on the elementary and preparatory education at UNRWA schools. Based on the research done, it was concluded that UNRWA isn't responsible of Palestinian refugee growth as it is the result of population growth in region and the result of foreign events. In question of elementary and preparatory education, the decreasing percentage tendencies in attendance at UNRWA run schools have been observed despite multiplication of the refugee population. This might be a result of failing to accommodate to the needs of Palestinian refugees.

The Impact of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict on the Union for the Mediterranean (2008-2011)

This thesis aims to analyze why and how did the Israeli-Palestinian conflict influence the Union for the Mediterranean in the first three years of its existence. The new organization was meant to provide a fresh impulse to the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, by focusing on pragmatic co-operation and newly introducing a concept of co-ownership and institutionalization. However, the initial thought of achieving the pragmatic cooperation through greater political engagement and visibility soon proved fatally wrong, with the Gaza war and its aftermaths. The first part briefly describes a history of EU policies towards Mediterranean, Barcelona Process and European Neighbourhood Policy. It also presents the attitude of all main actors - European states, Arab states and Israel - to the idea of regional cooperation in the Mediterranean. Second part introduces the Union for the Mediterranean and points out weak points of its structure, using the analysis of founding declarations from Paris and Marseille. The last, third chapter, uses the chronology of Israeli-Palestinian conflict to analyze its effects on the UfM structure. Europeanization of the Czech Foreign policy and the impact of the Presidency in the Council of the EU: The case of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

This diploma thesis applies the theoretical concept of Europeanization on a research of the Czech foreign policy and its changes in relation to the presidency of the EU Council. As a case study, it analyses different Czech and EU's positions towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and then by comparison of both levels it determines the misfit between Czech and the EU's policies in the mentioned agenda. From historical point of view and from contemporary perspective as well, the Czech Republic is famous for very pro-Israeli attitudes. On the other hand, the EU is significantly focused on supporting of the Palestinians and building the Palestinian state. The research is divided into three periods: before the Czech Presidency of the EU in the years 2004-2008, during the Czech Presidency and then after the presidency until the end of 2010. The aim of the research is to evaluate changes of the misfit between the Czech domestic attitudes and the EU's positions by the example of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict's issues and then to find out whether the Czech foreign policy has been europeanized during the studied period. Stabilizing role of Egypt in the Middle East

The thesis deals with the question of Egypt's role of a biased mediator towards the Palestinian side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its stabilising effects on the region in the form of a case study applying the theory of a biased mediator in conflict resolution on the Egyptian example. In addition to this, the goal of this thesis is to demonstrate the beneficial effects of different forms of mediation activities and their combination, including biased and neutral mediation, in the transformation of intractable and protracted conflicts into their tractable form, using the example of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The identification of Egypt's positive role in contributing to the resolving of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, of which it was once a warrying party, portrays the transformational capacity of conflicts. The thesis also highlights Egypt's potential in moderating extremist trends in the region, also through the successful mediation efforts in the inter-palestinian conflict involving the Fatah and Hamas movements, contributed to by Egypt's changing position in the region, her historical role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and her strategic and security concerns in the region.

Yasser Arafat and his influence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

The bachelor thesis deals with a theory of leadership, especially the basic rules on how to become a good leader, then the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and then deals with the personality of Yasser Arafat and his involvement in the Middle East, especially in matters of the peace proces. It clearly explains the gradual increase of his political power, his association with the Palestine Liberation Organization and the related impact on the most important events in the region, which might have ended differently without his involvement. The results of this study make it possible to prove that Yasser Arafat was one of the obstacles in efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East. The research methods were primarily used to find the answers.

Foreign Aid and Its Role in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The thesis focuses on development assistance to Palestine and on the role of this assistance within the Palestinian state formation and overall Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The work comprises evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the development aid in general, based on several studies published by prominent researchers discussing the issues of the development assistance. In its core part, the thesis describes the evolution of the development assistance with Palestine, follows statistics about provision of the Official Development Aid (ODA) and discusses political and socio-economic implications of the development aid. Moreover, one part is devoted to the Czech development cooperation with Palestine and shows the effect of development aid on concrete project of electrification in Tubas district.

Analysis of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the territory of the City of Jerusalem since 1948

This bachelor's thesis analyzes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the territory of the City of Jerusalem since the establishment of the State of Israel until March 2015. The objective of the thesis is to find out whether Jerusalem hinders the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and if so, then how. Within the framework of this matter, the thesis deals with the issue of main causes of disputes in the Holy City, the position of Jerusalem at the 2000 Camp David Summit, and possible proposals for the future arrangement of the city.
