Literary Work Between Romanticism and Realism

Thesis deals with detection of romantic and realistic components in three selected novels, traditionally placed on the border between romanticism and realism, and more closely examines if their ambiguity in terms of literary movement is from a contemporary point of view up-to-date and relevant, and what constitutes it. This main goal is preceded by the need to define the most complex concepts of literary romanticism and realism, including their specific characteristics, tendencies and distinct feautures. Particular analyses are developed according to a preselected warp whose individual items are universal aspects of a literary work such as subject matter, plot, narration, characters, space-time and language devices which are monitored, on the basis of conclusions rendered in a theoretical part of this thesis, for a particular degree of romantic and realistic heritage. Within each analysis we were able to decide which aspects of the work are fully or rather consistent with the principles of romanticism and which are conversely in accordance with realistic tradition. The influence of Thomas Moore's work on Russian poetry of the 19th century

This bachelor thesis studies the influence of the work of the Irish poet Thomas More on the development of Russian poetry in the 19th century. The aim of the thesis is to establish the prerequisites for influence, as well as the consequences of this influence in Russian literature. The work consists of three parts. In the first part, we got acquainted with the facts from the biography of Thomas More, which subsequently left a mark in the works of the author. In addition, we examined the poet's work from the point of view of Russian literary criticism. It is worth noting here that close attention to More's work flared up during the period of his greatest fame. The cycle of poems "Irish Melodies" served as inspiration not only for Russian society, but also interested many other consciousness in European countries. In the second part, we examined how the reforms of Peter I contributed to the emergence of Westernism and Slavophilism and how these tendencies subsequently influenced the perception of the Irish poet by the literary society in Russia, as well as how the traditions of Mohr's work are reflected in the poetry of M. The Encounters of Love and Nature in the Lyric Poetry of Eduard Mörike

This diploma thesis explores the lyrical poetry of Eduard Mörike (1804-1875), a German poet. The topic of the thesis is theencountering of nature and love in his works. This poet, less known in the Czech context, wrote various kinds of poems, which deserve attention. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and interpretative. In the first part, the thesis focuses on giving an overall context (I deal with a historical context, literary epochs, during which Eduard Mörike wrote, his personality and general introduction in lyrical poetry). The second part of my thesis aims to interpret selected poems, which are divided bytheir themes: romantic love, the morning, wayfaring, the forest and the so-called "Dinggedichte," or poems focusing on understanding and appreciation of a single item. In each poem, a mood or feeling that characterizes the poem is described, who is the speaker within the poem, and which topics of love and nature can be observed. From the perspective of form, I analyze the rhyme scheme. The analysis of each thematic group also contains a comparation of the poems. The interpretational part aims to connect and evaluate the interweaving of love and nature in the poetic works of Eduard Mörike and touch upon the deeper meaning of the poems. Nature as a sanctuary in selected poems of William Wordsworth

This thesis deals with the theme of nature as a sanctuary in selected poems of William Wordsworth. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate such aspects of Wordsworth's writings that portray the outdoors as a shelter, where one can escape from the industrial, urbanised society in order to reach a tranquil state of mind and through meditation and introspection find wisdom. The main features of Wordsworth's interpretation of a sanctuary that this thesis discusses are nature as a source of serenity, nature as a teacher and the superiority of nature over the city. This thesis also provides a factual background and insight into the life of the poet in order to investigate the motivations behind the choice of nature as the main subject in his writings. The thesis begins with the introduction of the romantic movement as a whole. In this part of the document, romanticism will be introduced and discussed by commenting on and contrasting works of other writers of that era with the works of William Wordsworth with the primary focus being on the theme of nature in order to establish the poet's position within the movement. „The Czechs will live, and live long, for the salvation of themselves and of Slavdom.” Prophecy in the culture of the Czech Enlightenment and Romanticism

This article follows the development of the genre of prophecy on the Czech (in the provincial sense) scene from the mid-18th century to the mid-19th century with the stress on the modification of this traditional genre of spiritual literature within the context of the Enlightenment and Romanticism. After the middle of the century, the prophecy genre gradually emerged from its exclusively spiritual contexts and despite the dismissive attitude of some enlightenment adherents, it became an instrument for the education of subjects in the spirit of enlightened paternalism or Josephinism. Its development throughout the 19th century is then reflected in the emergence of provincial patriotism and its gradual suppression by ethnic nationalism. Both these discourses made use of the potential of prophecies referring to the Czech lands as a narrative that anchored the national community between the past, the present and the future. The greatest potential was offered by prophecy referring to Vyšehrad and Princess Libuše, who was portrayed from the end of the 18th century as a (semi-)mythical guarantor of the continuity of Czech statehood. The second key text is the Blaník prophecy, but when this became part of the Czech national discourse, its adherents underwent a transformation. The authority of the prophet, the Sibyll and the Blind Youth gradually give way to the authority of historical figures, Saint Václav and the Hussites, who were associated with prophecy, accompanying it with the constitutive Czech historical narrative.

The female characters in the work of George Sand

This thesis is concerned with an important persone of the first half of the 19th century, French writer George Sand. The main purpose of the thesis is to reveal whether the writer is one of the key authors of French romanticism in Czech schools and whether the Czech schoolchild has an opportunity to acquaint themselves with her rural novels. The thesis contains a theoretical and a practical part. The practical part briefly mentions her biography, gives an overview of the main periods of her work and is subsequently closely concerned with George Sand's rural novels. Since Sand creates an image of an ideal human being in her rural novels, in our analysis of these novels we focused on the characteristics of the main characters and on the realistic and idealistic elements present in the novels. In the end of the theoretical part we dealt with Sand's influence on Czech writers of the 19th century, especially on Božena Němcová and Karolína Světlá. The practical part is based on a research, which was conducted in selected Czech schools (in Pilsen area and Prague). The aim of this research was, as has been mentioned before, to chart the standing of George Sand in the curriculum of world literature. Minaret of Lednice - oriental tower in south Moravia

This bachelor thesis is focused on the unique oriental building of Minaret in Lednice area, which was constructed at the turn of 18th and 19th century by Alois Josef I. based on the plans of architect Josef Hardmuth. This thesis introduces Minaret in its historical context and explains its curious presence in Southern Moravia. The architecture of said building is being analyzed in the context of other monumental architectonical buildings. Minaret of Lednice is compared with other European buildings which were also inspired by oriental architecture. At the same time one of the goals of this thesis is to find potential inspirations coming directly from Middle East. Author focuses on the décor and mainly on Arabic inscriptions which decorate the building with the primary goal to describe these inscriptions, document them and find out which of them are actually written in Arabic and which of them are only imitating the Thuluh inscriptions. Lastly this thesis focuses on the restoration works which were executed throughout the history of its existence.

The Environment of the Fictional Space of Wuthering Heights

This bachelor thesis introduces the author of the novel Wuthering Heights in the context of the literature of 19th century and focuses on Emily Brontë´s relation with the enviroment where she grew up and which formed the relationship with the place where her novel´s plot is set. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to cover romantic elements of the novel Wuthering Heights, to characterize the gothic novel´s influence on the overall picture of the enviroment and to find confrontations of realistic, gothic and romantic elements creating the setting of the novel.
