The Evolution of Project Management and Selected Methodologies

This thesis deals with the evolution of project management and provides view of selected methodologies that are used for managing the projects. The thesis is divided into three parts according the single goals. The first part deals with the actual evolution of project management and in the end it offers the timeline of the evolution. The second part is focused on contribution of the information technologies to the project management. The third part presents selected methodologies that are used for project management and introduces their evolution. In the end of this part, the differences and commonalities of the methodologies' evolution are summarized. The main contribution of the thesis is the new look on the overall evolution of the project management with the orientation on the contribution of information technologies and detailed focus on the methodologies.
Historical development and comparison of chosen methodologies for managing ICT projects

Bachelor thesis deals with problems of ICT project management methodologies. The thesis sets out a total of three objectives. The first objective is to identify, characterize and describe uniformly chosen methodologies for managing ICT projects and to map their historical development. The second objective is to compare chosen methodologies according to set of specific criteria. The third objective is to select a suitable methodology for the specified model of ICT departments or companies based on their organizational culture and type of solved projects. In the theoretical part of this thesis basic concepts relating to the issue are defined at first and then chosen methodologies are identified and described uniformly. In the analytical part of the thesis the specific criteria are determined and the methodologies are compared on the base of them. There are also shown and justified reasons for selection of suitable methodology for a model of ICT department or company. Author's own contribution to the problem lies mainly in the comparison of chosen methodologies and, in a reasoned selection of a suitable methodology for a model of ICT department or company.
Project management in the audiovisual production

This paper deals with the application of project management approach and determination of the project life cycle methodology, according to the PMBoK field of audiovisual production. Using other methods of project management, implementation and evaluation of control systems for processes in the formation and progress of the project. Determination of the legislation that covers this area. Creating a general procedure, which is divided into various stages of implementation and identify key processes and milestones that need to be further defined. It introduces a system of checks and assessment procedures to facilitate the acceptance and fulfillment of set conditions. Improved work and access to information that is critical for the project. Supporting the project processes with software tools to facilitate the implementation and its management.
Quality Management in Projects

The main objective is to organize and enrich the theory of Project Quality Management, which was achieved by several sub-objectives. There was performed a research on Project Quality Management in practice not only in Czech Republic, but also in the world. This research found the most common standard/methodology for Project Quality Management and subsequently was applied in practice. This thesis also includes selection of the most appropriate techniques and tools for Quality Management. Theoretical section explains basic terms related to the topic of thesis, described the most important standards and Project Quality Management methodologies, determined hypotheses and way of questionnaire survey carried out a research related to thesis topic. Given the results of the survey is the practical section devoted to application of PMBOK methodology into practical Project Quality Management. Follows an overview of the most appropriate techniques and tools suitable for Project Quality Management also based on results of research.
Management of projects funded by the EU

The topic of the thesis focuses on the management of projects funded by the EU. In the first part I provide basic information about possibility of withdrawing funds from the EU. I describe operational programmes, funding opportunities and the process of withdrawing finances. I focus on the classification of different types of projects to be financed. The second part focuses on project management itself. I will analyze the project management methodology approved by European Commission for projects funded by the EU -- the logical framework approach. I will analyze whether the logical framework approach covers all phases of the project life cycle defined by the EU. I propose some methods that can be used in practice for different types of project with usage of well-known standard for project management -- PMBOK. The last part includes a case study -- analysis of project "Revitalization of village center in Drnava". Applying the logical framework methodology I will design a logical framework matrix for the village, which is one of the obligatory documents needed for the subsidiary applicants.
Web applications to support managing small projects

This thesis deals with description and analysis of market with web applications to support small business projects. In a theoretical part the reader is familiar with basic concepts relating to project management. Furthermore, reader is familiar with methodology for project management and software development. Part of the theoretical part is analysis of market with web applications. To conclude the theoretical part is found out support of methodologies. A practical part, on the contrary aims, set requirements for a small project. According to these requirements are selected web applications. These web applications are described and according to criterions is selected single web application. In conclusion thesis is reviewed feedback from students. The main contribution of this thesis is found out support of methodologies, overview of free apps, user's guide to application TeamBox and feedback from students subject 4IT115.
Business Intelligence Project Management

The diploma thesis deals with project management in Business Intelligence, a relatively new area of information systems. The first part of the thesis describes basic background of project management in general and some specifics of information systems project management. As one of the fundamental concepts, thinking about a project within its lifecycle is accented. The practical part examines the challenges of managing BI projects in a real financial institution in the Czech Republic. The aim of this section is to fill gaps in the existing project methodology of the financial institution by creating a mapping between the project lifecycle and processes of world-renowned PMBOK methodology.
PMBOK implementation

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to introduce an implementation of project management methodology in a company, to design a possible form of this process and to incorporate its development concept into it. According to that I will provide users with a practical demonstration of some outputs of an implementation. As a starting point for development of project management methodology 2 important standards in project management field PMBOK and OPM3 will be used. The objective will be reached through usage of acquired knowledge from analyzed standards. Steps of an implementation and the demonstration of outputs represents mainly a creative activity based on own ideas and experience while respecting recommendations from appropriate literature and articles. The content of the thesis should server organization's members of management as well as all people interested in project management. It shows them a way how to implement project management methodology using best practises of industry. In introduction I will explain terms connected with project management. Next I will present concept of projects as an executive component of corporate strategy and reaching goals. The following two chapters belong to PMBOK and OPM3 standards. After that a definition of project management methodology via designed project management framework follows. Finally there is a demonstration of outputs from implementation of project management methodology and its development concept found, which respects best practises defined in PMBOK and OPM3.
Project methodology in mobile operator environment

Goal of the thesis is a detail description of the project methodology within the Telecommunication Company and pointing out the differences between current existing methodology and methodology standards. The thesis is not just simple description of the project methodology but addition to that it tries to (in given time & material framework) design new solutions for the project process optimalization. The aim of the proposed solutions is to increase competitiveness of the company on the market in current dynamic environment. Thesis has two main parts, theoretical and practical one. Theoretic part deals with general project methodologies and compares theirs main features and characteristics. One of the chapters is also describing Six Sigma process methodology, that will play a major role in the practical part of the thesis. In practical part, first of all I am introducing the company Vodafone Czech republic which allowed me the creation of the diploma thesis. Following chapter is focused on existing project methodology, project life-cycle and tools that the company uses in day-to-day practice. Next chapter deals with the detail analysis of the project process and by using of real samples of the company projects I try to find the optimalization of the project process in order to speed up the time to market and thus provide faster reaction to the market conditions and needs. Final chapter provides a summary and conclusion of the work done. Project management: Data center migration

This thesis is trying to review project methodologies which could be used for a data center migration project. The aim of this work is to choose a project methodology for the migration project, based on the methodologies' description. On selected area of project management will be shown the differences between the most suitable methodologies and a practical example of the chosen methodology will be prepared.
