Modeling controlled release
Čelková, Ivana ; Smilek, Jiří (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on the controlled release of drugs from hydrogels and the subsequent simulation of this process using the COMSOL Multiphysics computing platform. The aim of the work is to propose a simple model describing the release from the hydrogel structure, to study the effect of diffusion coefficient and to perform simulations on this model and evaluate the results related to controlled release. As part of the thesis, two models were created to investigate the release of particles from the hydrogel. Simulations of this process were carried out for three selected diffusion coefficients (110-9, 110-10, 110-11 m2s-1) and were subsequently discussed in terms of the influence on the speed of particle transport. Two procedures were chosen to determine the total concentration of the released substance in vicinity of the hydrogel, i.e. using the integration of the area of the aqueous environment (in a two-dimensional model) and monitoring the flow of particles through the phase interface of the hydrogel and the aqueous environment.
Modeling diffusion in hydrogels
Vrána, Matouš ; Sedláček, Petr (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on basic knowledge about hydrogels and their potential uses, Brownian motion in hydrogels and it’s connection with diffusion and the possible modeling in COMSOL Multiphysics with the help of Particle Tracing Module. The aim of this work is to propose adjustments to a model given from COMSOL Application Library that could lead to a functional simple model true to the viscoelastic properties of the environment. Those were controlled through a given script for calculation of MSD in Matlab. The original model was adjusted with the help of rigid obstacles blocking particle transport. Second, rectangular model was also created, where the particle movement had been observed through created channels.
Physical aspects of cooling the surface (skin) of animals and the possibility of using computer simulations for their quantitative analysis
HOLÝ, Lukáš
The aim of the bachelor´s thesis was to create a basic version of a computer model, which will enable computer simulations of the cooling of a solid body by a flowing fluid, in our case specifically air. The computer model will then be further developed as part of the diploma thesis with the aim of simulating the cooling of the skin of living animals. The bachelor´s thesis also introduces the reader to the basics of working in the COMSOL Multiphysics program, especially to the individual steps in the preparation of a computer model. Physical aspects and phenomena at the basic level, which are applied during simulation, are also discussed in the thesis.
Microrheology modeling with COMSOL Multiphysics package
Koláček, Jakub ; Sedláček, Petr (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on modeling Brownian motion using the COMSOL Multiphysics package and its Particle Tracing module. The aim of the work is to design and create elementary models that will be able to suitably simulate the movement of microparticles in viscous and viscoelastic environments, which can later be used for modeling passive microrheology. Within this work, Matlab scripts were created for the calculation of MSD from the simulation results, validation of the viscous model was performed on experimental data and elementary models for the simulation of the viscoelastic environment were also designed. Two different approaches were chosen for the design of these models, namely the use of rigid obstacles under the assumption of a discrete environment and a mathematical model assuming continuous environment. Data from the viscous model showed good agreement with the experimental results. The results of viscoelastic simulations are presented, and further possible development of these models is discussed. The continuous mathematical model is considered closest to modeling viscoelastic behavior because of a characteristic curvature that was observed in the evaluation of MSD.
Utilization of artificially created weak magnetic field for navigation in 3D space
Váňa, Dominik ; Beneš, Petr (referee) ; Havránek, Zdeněk (advisor)
This master's thesis focuses on the utilization of an artificially created weak magnetic field for navigation in 3D space. The theoretical part of this work deals with the general properties of the magnetic field and with its description. The next section of the theoretical part contains an overview of measuring principles for magnetic field measurements. Based on various types of measuring principles, the thesis elaborates on commercially available miniature sensors for magnetic field measurement with a measuring range up to 10 mT. The work focuses mainly on the magnetoresistive principle and fluxgate sensors. Furthermore, the theoretical part contains descriptions of methods for modeling the magnetic field of simple permanent magnets and various magnet assemblies. Lastly, the theoretical part involves a patent search of devices used for locating magnets that are installed in an intramedullary nail, which is used in intramedullary stabilization used on fractures of human bones. By locating the magnet in the nail, it is possible to precisely determine the position of the mounting holes. The practical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of magnetic field behavior in the vicinity of various magnetic assemblies, which were modeled in COMSOL Multiphysics using the finite element method. The models were created with the aim of analysing the behaviour of the magnetic field in the vicinity of the magnets and at the same time to find possible analytical functions that could be used to determine the position of the magnet in space relative to the probe. The result of this work is an analysis of various assemblies, which contains graphs of different dependencies and prescription of polynomial functions that approximate these dependencies. Another part of the thesis is the design of a probe that serves to locate the magnetic target. The work describes two possible methods of localization. For the differential method, a user interface in LabVIEW was created. The probe based on this method is fully capable of locating the magnet in the 2D plane. The state space search method is described only in theory.

STANĚK, Jakub
This diploma thesis is concerned with a problem of the line heat simulation by different kinds of materials with computer - aided COMSOL Multiphysics. The thesis is composed of three thematic units. In the first part there is a line heat principle shortly described and his basic physical quantities which are necessary for correct defining of the simulation. The second part is concerned with the software, its function, auxiliary modulus and a description of single actions, which are essential for making of the model. In the last part there is the whole process of the multiphysical task creation that enables to simulate line heat in a specific material in reliance on time.
Modelling of bioelectronic devices
Truksa, Jan ; Vala, Martin (referee) ; Salyk, Ota (advisor)
