Mortality in the czech countries in the years 1920-1937 with emphasis on selected infectious diseases
Skalák, Zdeněk ; Fialová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Kurtinová, Olga (referee)
Mortality in the Czech countries in the years 1920-1937 with emphasis on selected infectious diseases Abstract The aim of this work is to analyze mortality rates in the czech countries in the years 1920-1937. We focus on a group of infectious diseases that had in this period in terms of cause of death still a high proportion. The rate of mortality due to infectious diseases is dependent on many aspects, such as the correct detection of the disease, effective vaccines and the level of medicine. It is these causes that brought about the sharp decline in mortality due to infectious diseases in the late 19th century. Hovewer, the First World War interupted this permanent decline and the newly created Czechoslovak state had to deal with relatively high mortality due to these diseases. The inter-war period saw recurrent epidemies of infectious deseases, nevertheless until the Second World War we can see the change in mortality due to causes. The infectious diseases are gradually replaced by modern diseases, especially cancers and diseases of the circulatory system. Key words: mortality, causes of death, infectious diseases, decomposition, classification of causes of death, medical discoveries, the level of health
Regional differentiation of cause-specific mortality in selected countries of Central Europe
Domonkos, Zsolt ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the differentiation in mortality rates at the international and regional level (NUTS 2) in selected countries of Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Switzerland). At the country level, it examines the development of total mortality and cause- specific mortality since 1990. At the regional level, it evaluates the regional differences in total mortality and cause-specific mortality in the period 2008-2010. The thesis makes use of demographic indices (life expectancy, dispersion measure of mortality, lifespan disparity, standardised death rate) and tools of statistical analysis (Poisson regression, cluster analysis). The analysis reveals that mortality rates have decreased in Central European countries, although significant differences in the intensity of mortality can still be observed at the international as well as regional level. Methods of analysis of seasonality in demography
Myšáková, Gabriela ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (referee)
Methods of analysis of seasonality in demografy Gabriela Myšáková Abstract The thesis presents statistical methods suited for analysis of seasonality in time-series. Three statistical methods have been thoroughly described, namely the time-series decomposition, the X12−ARIMA method and the cointegration of time-series. Further methods applicable for similar analysis have been briefly discussed as well. Three main methods have been subsequently applied to monthly demographic data for the Czech Republic and chosen European countries by natality, nuptiality and mortality. Seasonality has been discovered in all three demographic events and by using the time-series decomposition and the X12−ARIMA method for time-series lay out to separate units, and those progressions have been track by graphic and verbal interpretation. Cluster analysis has been applied to European countries nuptiality and mortality time-series in order to reveal similarities and dissimilarities among particular countries. All the methods were used onto data set by using appropriate procedures in statistical software SAS.
Comparative analysis of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007
Nerušilová, Hana ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Comparative analysis of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007 Abstract The main aim of this thesis is to describe and compare the development of the level of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007, which is contextualized into the changes of the overall mortality. Within the whole group of circulatory diseases the changes of mortality levels in different groups of circulatory diseases or by certain diagnoses are analysed. The analysis is accompanied with the comparison of cardiovascular mortality levels within the whole Europe. Afterwards the thesis focuses on cardiovascular risk factors and the quality of healthcare in both countries. The analysis concludes that the decline of cardiovascular mortality begun in Czechia ten years later than in Sweden but still sooner than in majority of post-communist countries. The decline was in both countries more evident for acute forms of cardiovascular diseases. The decrease in mortality was mainly attributable to progress in healthcare in Czechia whereas in Sweden it was caused particularly by the positive development of risk factors.
Impact of changes in Earth thermal plasma parameters and solar indices on mortality by cause in the Czech Republic
Podolská, Kateřina ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis was to study the dependence of the intensity of mortality in the Czech Republic, according to the chosen causes of death, on the Solar activity during the increasing and decreasing phase of the Solar cycle in the period 1994-2011, using the methods of the multivariate statistical analysis. The Solar activity was represented by the indices R, Kp, F10.7 and Dst, and also by the height of the F2 layer and TEC for the Czech Republic. The typology of time profiles for causes of death was identified with the help of cluster analysis using time. The dependence between the analyzed time series was investigated using the multivariate statistical analysis. The correlation of the intensity of mortality from coronary heart disease, from stroke, Edwards' and Pataus' syndrom with the Solar activity parameters was discovered, as well as a stronger dependence on the ionosphere parametres related to the Czech Republic area.
Selected determinants of population health and their impact on mortality in European countries
Straka, Jakub ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kulhánová, Ivana (referee)
Selected determinants of population health and their impact on mortality in European countries Abstract The thesis focuses on the relationship of lifestyle determinants of men and women in selected European countries in 2014 with their subjective (healthy life years) and objective level of mortality (life expectancy) and their mortality rates to the most common causes. These are ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases and malignant neoplasm of the trachea, bronchus and lung. Selected determinants of health were physical activity, BMI, fruit and vegetable consumption, smoking and alcohol consumption. The indicator life expectancy in health is most often related to the exact age of 65 years, and therefore this work also focuses on the elderly population. Multiple linear regression was used to examine the effect of selected health determinants on mortality levels. In addition, the thesis explores the development and intensity of life expectancy in the health of men and women in the period 2004-2014. Finally, it addresses whether the European population between the first decade of the 21st century and 2014 saw an increase in healthy life years. The initial source of data is the EHIS and EU-SILC. Due to the chosen methods, it was found that the length of life in health rather stagnated, which is...
The concept of 'cancer transition' in selected European countries
Naxera, Martin ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kulhánová, Ivana (referee)
The concept of 'cancer transition' in selected European countries Abstract This paper examines the concept(s) of 'cancer transition' which consists of interpretation of the cancer epidemiology development dynamics. The conceptualizations by various important authors are compared. Comparation is also made between them and the concepts of epidemiologic and health transition. The concepts of 'cancer transition' are then given the context of selected characteristics of the cancer epidemiology. The concepts are additionally illustrated by visualization of the age-standardized mortality and incidence rates in selected European countries - Czechia, Ireland, Norway and Malta in the 1960-2017 period. Keywords: cancer transition, epidemiologic transition, cancer, mortality
Factors affecting mortality in countries with the highest life expectancy at birth with focus on the influence of tobacco smoking
Liška, Jiří ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
Factors affecting mortality in countries with the highest life expectancy at birth with focus on the influence of tobacco smoking Abstract This bachelor thesis focuses on the factors influencing mortality levels, specifically analysing the influence of tobacco smoking in countries with highest life expectancies - Japan and Switzerland. Trends in smoking prevalence rates from the mid-20th century to the present are analysed. In both countries, the prevalence of smoking is higher in men than in women, but the gap is narrowing over time. Then, author constructs life tables using data from WHO Mortality Database and analyses mortality in Japan and Switzerland between 1995 and 2017, focusing on life expectancy at birth and at ages of 35 and 65 years. The actual development of these indicators is compared with two hypothetical developments, assuming the elimination of smoking attributable mortality and a constant level of smoking attributable mortality. The results indicate that high life expectancies in Japan and Switzerland are not caused by low numbers of smokers in these countries. Keywords: mortality, life expectancy, determinants of health, smoking, Japan, Switzerland
Concept cancer transition in the context of selected theoretical approaches related to the process of morbidity and mortality in recent decades: Case study for Czechia
Knížová, Karolína ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kulhánová, Ivana (referee)
Concept cancer transition in the context of selected theoretical approaches related to the process of morbidity and mortality in recent decades: Case study for Czechia Abstract The aim of the diploma thesis is to introduce the cancer transition concept and to contextualize it in relation to other theoretical concepts that concentrate on change in the structure of mortality by causes of death. Furthermore, in the context of cancer transition, the current state of mortality of neoplasms is illustrated reflecting its connection to infection in the population of Czechia, and its development is covered over the 1994-2018 period. The concept of cancer transition is based on the idea that as the society develops, the proportion of deaths by infection-related neoplasms decreases and the proportion of deaths caused by non-infection-related neoplasms increases. The concept thus essentially follows Omran's theory of the epidemiological transition. However, the concept of cancer transition has, so far, been theoretically used only to a relatively limited extend in literature and has usually been described rather indirectly. In this work, it is presented as a separate theoretical concept dealing with the change in the structure of mortality in terms of causes of death and its connection to existing concepts related to...
