Web Modeling Language: overview

The metaphysical detective story in Paul Auster's The New York trilogy and Thomas Pynchon's The crying of lot 49
Buršíková, Marika ; Robbins, David Lee (referee) ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor)
While the first two chapters of the thesis provide the necessary theoretical framework concerning the classical detective story and the metaphysical detective story, in the third chapter this framework is employed to analyze the particular themes that are present in The New York Trilogy and The Crying of Lot 49. To explain the metaphysical detective story, a step back to the classical detective story as its predecessor is required. To sum up the oppositions expressed in criticism dealing with this subject, the contrast between these two genres has been defined in terms of high art and popular art (Todorov), art and kitsch (Holquist), ontological dominant and epistemological dominant (McHale), postmodern and positivistic mode of thinking (Spanos). The metaphysical detective story takes the conventions of the classical detective story and distorts them in order to betray the reader's expectations. Since the popular genres are constituted by their corresponding sets of conventions which need to be familiar, any change in them causes the work to lose its status as part of the genre. In this case, the classical detective story has served as a point of departure for many authors who transformed it into a completely different genre which had no longer anything to do with popular literature. Classical detective...

Obesity in Patiens with Psoriasis as a Risk Factor of Ischemic Heart Disease
Kadlecová, Markéta ; Arenberger, Petr (advisor)
Psoriasis is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory skin disease. There is a significant risk of many comorbidities in psoriatic patients, the most prominent of these being Metabolic Syndrome (obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipoproteinemia). Metabolic Syndrome contributes to increased mortality and morbidity rate, owing to cardiovascular diseases in particular. Psoriasis itself is another contributing factor. In comparison with normal population, the mortality rate in patients with severe psoriasis is two times higher. Psoriasis and some of its comorbidities have the same pathophysiology. The same cytokines, such as TNF-alpha and inflammatory cells are involved. Integrated approach in therapy focused on the underlying inflammation may reduce the cardiovascular risk in obese patients with psoriasis. An important step in the care of patients with this combination of ailments is the prevention of ischemic heart disease, as the risk of it is higher in them. Apart from general recommendations, one can apply specific approaches. An example of these is the treatment of obesity-induced inflammation, secondary prevention of psoriasis, anti-inflammatory systemic therapy and biological therapy.

Plains volcanism in Tharsis region on Mars: Ages and Rheology of Eruption Products
Brož, Petr ; Závada, Prokop (advisor) ; Hauber, Ernst (referee)
Plains volcanism in Tharsis region on Mars: Ages and Rheology of Eruption Products Remote sensing data show clusters of low shield volcanoes in Tharsis volcanic province on Mars (Hauber et al., 2009). These low shield volcanoes and associated landforms are comparable with terrestrial plain-style volcanic products (Plescia, 1981) as defined by Greeley (1982) in the Snake River Plain in Idaho, which represents an intermediate style of volcanic activity ranging between flood basalts and the Hawaiian shields. While a number of recent studies addressed some aspects of low shield volcanoes, in particular their morphology, morphometry, and lava rheology, no systematic study including the chronology for the entire region of Tharsis is available so far. The goal of this work is to determine relative and absolute ages of low shield volcanoes and surrounding lava flows and their basic rheological properties. We used crater size-frequency distribution method (CSFD) developed by Hartman and Neukum (2001) and Ivanov (2001) for determination of absolute dating of the surface. For calculation of the rheological properties of the lava, we used methods established by Hiesinger et al. (2007). It is known that the low shield volcanoes on Mars consist of basaltic lavas that had low viscosities during their effusion, which can...

Employment policy in the first New Deal
Kozlová, Lenka ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Krček, Matěj (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with problems of unemployment in the United States of America during the 30th years of the twentieth century, and especially the various projects in support of employment for the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the period of the first New Deal. Realization of these large public work projects was a response to the outbreak of the Great Depression, which resulted in the emergence of the historically highest levels of unemployment in U.S. history. Unemployment policy was the first step to state intervention and the consolidation of authority of the federal government through high government expenditure. These were necessary for financing of these therapy projects. For this reason, I analyze the influence of government spending to the federal budget and the growth and decline of unemployment from 1929 to 1935 (1940) and consequently their impact on the U.S. economy.

Implementation of European Arrest Warrant
Žakarovská, Barbara ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The European Arrest Warrant was the necessary response to the increase in cross-border crime, which had been a result produced by the liquidation of the internal state boundary. Furthermore it represents a fully new system of judicial cooperation in criminal matters among the Member States of European Union, based on principle of mutual trust and on the principle of recognition of judicial decisions and judgments. At the first stage the thesis "Implementation of European Arrest Warrant" describes the historical events marking or directly leading the adoption of the Framework Decision on the European Arrest Warrant and the surrender procedures between Member States by the Council of the European Union on 13th June 2002. Then major differences between this new institute and its former legislation, extradition procedures, are being analyzed. The main part is being focused on problems that occurred during transposition of the named Framework decision into Member States' internal law systems, from time, content and constitutional compliance point of view while with this last the complications that Czech republic, Germany, Poland and Belgium faced are being described. Even though no doubts that the implementation of European Arrest Warrant encountered a lot of troubles we can not simply deny that it made enormously the whole process of surrender more easy and quicker which was absolutely needed in these times of increasing cross-border criminality and real danger of terrorism while the old extradition procedures were fully obsolete and too formal. The new European Arrest Warrant then represents a simple mandatory logical step forward.
