Oxidative stress and its role in respiratory diseases
Zakouřilová, Jana ; Melicharová, Ludmila (referee) ; Pourová, Jana (advisor)
Free radicals are essential part of common physiological metabolic processes in the organism. They are involved in the protection of the organism from heterogeneous elements, participate in many chemical reactions, serve as substrates for a numer of enzymes, have a signal function, mediate vasodilatation and also participate in reproduction. However all these functions must be under continous and strict control of antioxidant mechanisms because free radicals are also highly reactive substances. Failure of antioxidant control mechanisms can give rise to or at least contribute to serious damage of genetic information, molecules, tissues or regulatory mechanisms. The purpose of antioxidant protection of the organism is to counteract the negative effect of free radicals, even during and ongoing disease. The system is extremely complex, its individual components cooperate and sometime are in synergy with one another. The overproduction of free radicals can participate in the pathogenesis of many diseases of the respiratory system (for example: COPD, asthma bronchiale, ARDS, lung cancer). In the treatment of the diseases with suspected overproduction of free radicals, antioxidants may also be administered during therapy. To achieve good results, exact assessement of the actual condition of the organism...

Title of diploma thesis: Pyrazine derivates as potential drugs IV. Recherché about occurence of tuberculosis in the world, characteristics of this disease, treatment and drugs used was conducted first in this diploma thesis. Methods of preparing substituted pyrazinecarboxylic acid amids were found in chemical literature. Six new compounds, in chemical literature undocumented amides, were synthetized. Prepared products were described using melting temperature, elementary analysis, IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Group of compounds was tested in vitro for biological activity. Information about antimycobacterial, antifungal and herbicide activity was gained. Substances lipophilicity was evaluated. Values of log P were counted. At the end, relationship between biological activity, chemical structure and lipophilicity of prepared substances was evaluated.

Microstructure of non-equiblirium Al-Mn based solid solutions
Poková, Michaela ; Karlík, Miroslav (referee) ; Cieslar, Miroslav (advisor)
Heat exchangers in automotive industry are often manufactured from aluminum-based alloy AW 3003. In recent time, the aim to reduce the weight of the cars leads to thickening of the foils, which are used for manufacturing of the heat exchangers. In order to fulfill all requirements on mechanical properties of the exchanger, new materials and thermo-mechanical treatments have to be found. Modified alloy AW 3003 with addition of zirconium seems to be perspective. Zirconium forms metastable precipitates Al3Zr, which pin moving grain boundaries and shift recrystallization to higher temperatures. The most effective heat treatment, which leads to precipitation of these particles, seems to be a two-step annealing at temperatures 250 řC and 450 řC with slow heating rate. The precipitates formed were of diameter 10 nm.

Legal status of Jews under the rule of Marie Therese and Joseph II

67 Resumé The legal statute of the Jews in the time of the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the legal statute of Jewish minority in the Czech lands in the time of the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. Main concentration is thus focused upon the second half of the 18th century. The reason for my research is to try to understand the background of their long lasting bad treatment during previous centuries and its changes in the upcoming time of the Enlightenment. The thesis is composed of three chapters, each of them dealing with different historical background and timeline. Chapter One is introductory and describes the long way of the Jews from the origin of Jewish nation in the Middle East, followed by the beginning of jewish diaspora and its european history until the French Revolution. Chapter Two describes the legal history of the Jews settled in the Czech lands since their beginning in the 10th century until the introduction of the infamous restrictive so called Familiants laws in 1726. Chapter Three deals directly with the main topic, the legal statute of the Jews in the Czech lands in the time of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. It consists of two main parts. First is dedicated to the time of the reign of Maria Theresa and her well known decision about the...

81 The status of third country nationals in the EU - Abstract The thesis deals with the status of third country nationals (further referred to as TCN) in the EU. Its purpose rests in the analysis of the current immigration policy of the EU and the comparison of the different groups of immigrants coming to the Member States from third countries. The objective thesis consists of 6 chapters. Chapter 1 is introductory. It defines the concept of migration and it determines the subject-matter of the thesis, which is the legal migration. Chapter 2 is focused on the historical development of the common asylum and immigration policy in the EU. It is divided into four subchapters, each subchapter describes certain historical period. The heart of the thesis is contained in Chapter 3. It is divided into six subchapters, each of them deals with the specific aspect of the TCN's status (first admission and entrance on the territory of EU, freedom of movement in the EU and right to reside on the territory of Member States, the access to employment and right to equal treatment, the expulsion and withdrawal of the residence right and finally procedural guarantees). Each subchapter is divided into five other parts as it compares the above mentioned aspects according to the legal reason of the TCN's residence. Consequently the...

- 111 - PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATION BASED ON SEX IN LABOUR-LAW RELATIONS This diploma paper deals with the prohibition of discrimination based on sex in labour-law relations. Its main objective was to present a comprehensive construction of legal regulation of equal treatment and equal opportunities for men and women both in the legal order of the Czech Republic and in the law of the European Community ("EC") and in public international conventions. The thesis opens with the explanation of general framework of the subject, it especially analyses the notion of equality and various approaches to this concept. Further on, the paper focuses on the demonstrations of unequal chances of men and women on the employment market, as well as on the historical aspects of women's status in society. Quite an extensive part of the presentation is dedicated to the definition of the fundamental concept of discrimination, its particular forms (above all the conception of direct vs. indirect discrimination) and exceptions to the principle of equal treatment. The explication is primarily based on definitions contained in the European directives (to the implementation of which the Czech Republic as a Member State of the EC is obliged), as well as on the relevant judicial decisions of the European Court of Justice ("ECJ"). The...

The Specifics of a Nurse's Work at a Dentistry Surgery
BARTŮŠKOVÁ, Ludmila
The thesis deals with the work of nurse in stomatological departments. It covers topics such as hygienic and anti-epidemic measures, communication with patients of various typology in the field of prevention. The thesis aims to find out the specifities of stomatological nurses. The research was focused on the job content, communication and education of patients in terms of prevention. The thesis uses a qualitative analysis using directed interview according to a prepared structured questionnaire. The research group consisted of five nurses from stomatological departments in České Budějovice, who have had at least 10-year practice. Based on these interviews I created case studies and used them to make classification tables. The results showed that the job content of stomatological department nurse includes communication with patients, preparation of the stomatological chair, instruments and other equipment, assistence during stomatological interventions, technical equipment manipulation, stomatological deparment organization, keeping documentation, providing health and prevention education of patients or children´s parents concerning dental care. To be more specific about communication nurses mainly treat anxiety and fear of stomatological treatment. Patients coming to stomatological deparments are of various personalities and nurse must be able to communicate with them individually. A very specific communication is needed in case of small children and senior patients, where nurses use various tricks: ?metal finger,? Tell-Show-Do method, distracting attention, modelling, positive encouragement and keeping parents in the waiting room. Nurses participate in the education of patients although doctor still plays a major role in education. The thesis could be useful for nurses who consider their future career in a stomatological department. They are recommended to take a communication skills training before they start their own practice.

Relatives' visits at intensive care units relatives'and staff's view
Kovalová, Lenka ; Havel, Eduard (advisor) ; Pečenková, Jaroslava (referee) ; Cerman, Jaroslav (referee)
It is desired to know the meaning on relatives visits liberalization on intensive care unit in the view of visitors and the staff. Questionnaires about the visits possible problems were filled up by visitors (53 persons) and intensive care nurses (60 persons). The next results are formulated: The visits of relatives at intensive care unite are obvious and is the obligatory part of treatment process. It is not routine practise to know the patient's wish about the plan visit before the visit. Nobody of visitors was discouraged from visiting the patient on intensive care unit. It is necessary to construct the unites with the better possibility of privacy. The relatives prefer the long duration of visit. The relatives means, that a comatose patient can hear them and the visit helps the patient in healing process. The intensive care unit staff must allow relatives to presence during some therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

GRAIN REFINEMENT EFFECT ON FATIGUE PROPERTIES OF AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL WITH DEFORMATION INDUCED MARTENSITE FORMATION
Chlupová, Alice ; Man, Jiří ; Polák, Jaroslav ; Škorík, Viktor ; Karjalainen, J.
Fatigue properties of metastable austenitic 301LN steel with coarse and ultrafine-grained microstructures were investigated at ambient temperature and the effect of grain refinement was evaluated. Two different microstructural states of material were introduced by different annealing conditions during special thermo-mechanical treatment. Fatigue life curves were obtained and compared for both coarse-grained and ultra-fine-grained states of austenitic stainless steel. Magnetic measurements before, during and after cyclic loading were performed to reveal structural changes, i.e. formation of deformation-induced martensite. Relationship between microstructure refinement, phase composition and fatigue properties was discussed.
