Slachová, Markéta ; Novotná, Eva (advisor) ; Pech, Milan (referee)
Ladislav Šaloun's Atelier in Prague -Vinohrady. In my bachelor thesis I analyze the atelier of Ladislav Šaloun in Prague - Vinohrady. I try to clarify the emergence and destiny of this building. This thesis is not sculptor's biography, also doesn't contain details about his life work, but presents important facts and circumstances related with the atelier. At the time when he was giving shape to the monument of Mistr Jan Hus placed on Staroměstské náměstí, which was his the biggest sculpture, he decided to build his own atelier. Even though he had no architectural education he designed the building according to his own drawing. A workplace for sculptor's creations was elaborated as a temple completed with symbols and decoration that have reflected author's interests and thoughts. The garden and interior equipment were designed to form the whole unit together with the building of the atelier. In this thesis I have tried to find out and describe the influences which led Ladislav Šaloun in the process of designing. It's about his connection with architects Jan Kotěra and Antonín Pfeiffer, his trips to Italy and also about his interests in ancient cultures. All of these circumstances helped Šaloun to develop his peculiar expression. Quite unusual was his original intention from 1911 to use the...

In this thesis I´m trying to touch the border points between sculpture, painting, drawing and design Diploma work deals with the theme of the wall relief. I´m using conceptual principles and these principles are often unclear on the outside. by using the conceptual keys and contexts i´m trying to create the aesthetic quality of the artwork. The Phenomenon of Colour
Čáp, Rebecca ; Krajný, Boris (advisor) ; Šimonková, Dagmar (referee) ; Klánský, Ivan (referee)
In my thesis I will explore the phenonemon of colour. The first chapter deals with the historical developement of colour, the developement of Colour Organs and the psychological properties of the eleven basic colours. Chapter II explores the rare phenonemon of Synaesthesia, the mixing of senses: the ability to see colours when listening to music, or when reading letters or numbers. Many composers, musicians and authors had this ability. I will explore in depth two composers who gave prominence to colour in their compositions: Alexander Skriabin and Olivier Messaien. Chapter III deals with Claude Debussy, the great "Painter in Music", who composed highly coloured compositions and was hugely interested in visual art. In the last chapter I will discuss various pianists and their views on piano sound and the production of colour. The Appendix contains charts illustrating the psychological properties of keys and various contrasting colour - key analogies. There are also many drawings and photographs.

La Boheme / Complex production stage design solutions/
Hůlová, Magdalena ; Zbořilová, Jana (advisor) ; David, Milan (advisor) ; Vohlídalová, Ivana (referee)
Work such as La Boheme is difficult to grasp it completely original and unusual way. Veristic character of this opera brings a very specific idea of staging as well as visually. I dared to tackle the larger experiment, but I was focused on how a detail or purified architectural morphology contribute to not only retelling the story, but also his own interpretation of a work. The costume I was looking for how this or that detail to support the character drawing figures. I'm not looking for new shapes, and colors drastic solution, but I found the means to move from historic plainclothes toward artistic concept. In the scene, I tried to walk out the basic needs of opera performances and look for characteristics of each background to the very first impression once offered a sense of enclosure, contrary open again. Order now clear that there will reign and rush is rather quiet. That individual background evoked feelings that correspond to situations in which they take place. Although this method is not original, but his manner is very complicated. Not be there to lean on the crutch strong stylization, and it's eternal search for description a level of functionality in both the practical sense and in terms communicativeness. The work also contains a few introductory chapters, and give a period of opera, its author, some art directions that have an impact on the emergence of opera and short introduction to sources of inspiration, which I used in the formulation of conception.

The Beuron School and Liturgy
Novák, Pavel ; Kotas, Jan (advisor) ; Opatrný, Aleš (referee)
Subject of my work is the Beuronese art and its relation to the liturgy. The first part concerns generally the beuronese confederation, its foundation, historical development and expansion. The piece draws the creation and the basic solutions of the confederation, coming of the Beuron Art School as an individual style, and presents the most important beuronese performers. The study also surveys the main works of the Beuron Art School and evaluates the School's influence on the main art streams of the period. The work then tries to describe and clarify the relationship between the beuronese conception of sacral art and liturgy using examples of the two most important Prague beuronese monasteries. For this purpose it analyses so called beuronese "Gesamtkunstwerk", using knowledge of the Christian iconography.

Paradoxes of liberal liberty: revision of the classical assumptions of freedom
Kolínský, Ondřej ; Mlčoch, Lubomír (advisor) ; Skuhrovec, Jiří (referee)
Current criticism of liberalism is usually based on ad hoc economic and social arguments. In this bachelor thesis, on the contrary, we seek to verify to what extent the very core of the classical liberal doctrine is consistent with the findings of modern economics. In the first part, we examine the writings of the fathers of economic liberalism; Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill and Friedrich August von Hayek. On their grounds, we describe and specify the type of liberty this paper is concerned with. Also, we show what beliefs these philosophers held regarding the question of human rationality. In the second part, we provide some philosophical background to the question of freedom and explain how it is interconnected with rationality. Finally, in the third part, we draw some empirical findings from behavioral economics, which aims at explaining the disparity between preferences and actual decisions of people. By contrasting these discoveries with the original liberal ideas, we are able to identify specific points, where the classical theorists incline to misleading beliefs. The aim of this paper is to assess how grave the implications of these errors are and how they could be addressed within the framework of liberalism. We also estimate their impact on the market interaction and examine possible...

Iconography of marine life in Greek and Roman art
Štampachová, Michaela ; Musil, Jiří (referee) ; Ondřejová, Iva (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to define and to summarize the manner, the context and the meaning of depictions of marine fauna in the Ancient Art from 8th century BC to 5th century AD in the Mediterranean region. Based on remarks of ancient authors and on current secondary literature it compiles and comments on some pieces of Acient Art. Artistic motives with marine fauna were very popular in the ancient times and they can join a wide range of situations and contexts: from attributes of divinities and symbols of marine location to filling ornaments. Their significance was economic, social, as well as mythological and symbolical. The peak of their popularity is represented by black-figure vases, south Italian fish-plates and Hellenistic mosaics. Realistic and ornamental tendencies of style coexisted. While drawing and painting suited better to fish and cephalopods, sculpture flattered dolphins.
