Hlubuček, Petr ; Pávek, Petr (advisor) ; Mladěnka, Přemysl (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology Student: Petr Hlubuček Supervisor: Doc. PharmDr. Petr Pávek, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: Effects of chronic growth hormone and melatonin administration on EEG delta power in old rats. Slow wave sleep (SWS), characterized by an increase in delta power (typically 0.1-4 Hz) of EEG spectral analysis is considered to be a core component of deep sleep and is associated with sleep's anabolic restorative properties necessary for good mental and physical health. The reduction of delta power represents one of the hallmarks of sleep alterations with age. In order to study effects of chronic growth hormone (GH) and melatonin administration on sleep EEG power spectra, young (3-4 months) and old (22-23 months) male Wistar rats were implanted with EEG and EMG electrodes. During one month a group of old animals was treated with GH administered intraperitonealy (i.p.), second group of old animals was treated with melatonin diluted in drinking water. Additional two groups of young and old rats with no treatment served as controls. After the treatment, EEG and EMG were recorded and analyzed. Then Fast Fourier transform was used to compute spectral power of REM and NREM sleep. Our results show rapid...

VACKOVÁ, Jana
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to clear up the problems of separating the waste and to point out the awareness and willingness of the people to separate the waste, namely according to their individual age. The literary rewiev is concentrated on the treatment of the waste and its individual technologies. In more detail I describe individual types of separated waste and its recycling. I also follow up the influence of different characteristic of the population (gender, age, residence) in relation to their willingness to sort the waste. The thing is, that the human behavior it?s the main cause damaging our negative influence of the human society on the environment. In the practical part, I pursued the quantitative research by the method of questionnaire inquiry. Using the answers in the questionnaire, I found out which factors influence the separation of the waste with the population. The basic factors were the age and the gender. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to discover, whether the individual age categories differ in the separation of the waste. The most, the waste was always separated by inhabitants at the age between 36 ? 50 years. At least, at the age of 66 and plus: generally, younger people separated the waste more than older people, which may be caused by public education and good awareness of young people. On the contrary, old people were most often prevented from sorting out the waste by the illness, the distance of the containers or their unwillingness to separate was based on little knowledge and information.

The practical part of the thesis includes the inquiry which evaluates the theoretical interest in antioxidants and dietary intake of antioxidant supplements among 17-19 years-old secondary school students. The results are analyzed and graphically displayed. Research shows that more than a half of the respondents know the term antioxidants and consume these substances in the diet. However, it is important to increase knowledge of antioxidants already among young people and ensure the intake of these essential substances from a varied diet.

Roles of Women in the Works of Two Jewish-American Female Authors: Rebecca Goldstein and Allegra Goodman
Kozáková, Tereza ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Grmela, Josef (referee)
The Jewish-American situation seen through the lenses of Goldstein's and Goodman's works bring us closer to understanding the challenges the Jews in America have had to face. American culture provides open possibilities and chances that Jews had not been used to. This change starts the process of gradual assimilation in the forms of new educational opportunities, new views of gender roles, a modern approach to life where all people can be appreciated and successful, women not excluded. The impact of place and culture shapes the face of traditional Judaism, which needs to find ways to retain orthodox ways and keep Jews united against the possible dangers that might come from the outside. Yet progressive assimilation is inevitable and concerns all American Jews, even those who try to seek shelter in the womb of the orthodox communities. The changes take place especially in the new generations who do not have much connection to the past and Jewish experience on the far distant continent. They create their own version of Judaism based partly on the ways of their parents and partly on what American society offers. American values are gradually taken into consideration and influence the views of the young Jews. The new face of the religion is no longer what Judaism used to look like in the old shtetls. New rules...
