Chourová, Petra ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor)
This diploma thesis is focused on the alchemist Edward Kelley who is missed out in Czech historiography so far. He is a very interesting person and there are many legends related to him, which are sometimes hard to differentiate from the reality. Kelley was born in 1555 in an English town called Worcester but he also lived in Bohemia for a long time. It is important that he took service with scholar John Dee who was engaged by the court of the Queen Elizabeth I. With this man which was looking for the right medium in so called angelic conversations, that should show him the way to reach the entire knowledge, he undertook a journey round Europe. They came to Bohemia in the year 1584 and Kelley stayed there until his death in 1597. The Prague court of Rudolf II. represented optimal background for scholars and artists of diverse countries and it was also attractive for a lot of cozeners interested in earning money.

Saint George's Basilica at Prague Castle and her Building Development
Chlustiková, Katarína ; Kuthan, Jiří (advisor) ; Scholz, Stefan (referee)
Basilica St.-Georges at the Prague Castle and its building development The basilica of St. George at the Prague Castle is one of the most important and the best preserved ones in Czech art history. It has been rewarded by extensive academic interest, mainly leading to the number of monographic papers written on it. Nonetheless the opinions on its foundation and development differ fundamentally. This thesis aims at arriving to perspective, from which we can compare and resume these diverse theories. This has been enabled mainly by recent archeological revision of older results and its more precise datation which allows new revision of the building development in its upper parts and the revision of its chronology. The thesis summarise all of accessible resources for the comprehensive analysis, archeological, historical and art-historical, which has been already published or used. It tries to bring a new view on the possibilities of an interdisciplinar study. Lack of this was the main reason for the misunderstandings among the academic society connecting this building. Similarity Search in Protein Structure Databases
Galgonek, Jakub ; Skopal, Tomáš (advisor) ; Porto, Markus (referee) ; Svozil, Daniel (referee)
Proteins are one of the most important biopolymers having a wide range of functions in living organisms. Their huge functional diversity is achieved by their ability to fold into various 3D structures. Moreover, it has been shown that proteins sharing similar structure often share also other properties (e.g, a biological function, an evolutionary origin, etc.). Therefore, protein structures and methods to identify their similarities are so widely studied. In this thesis, we introduce a system allowing similarity search in pro- tein structure databases. The system retrieves, given a query structure, all database structures being similar to the query structure. It employs several key components. We have introduced a novel similarity measure assigning similarity scores to pairs of protein structures. We have designed specific access method based on LAESA metric indexing and using the proposed measure. The access method allows to search similar structures more effi- ciently than when a sequential scan of a database is employed. To achieve further speedup, the measure and the access method have been parallelized, resulting in almost linear speedup with the respect to the number of available cores. The last component is a web user interface that allows to accept a query structure and to present a list of...

Development of the interpretative musical schools from 18th century- French Horn in Bohemia, Germany , France

In 1888, he opened his atelier at Arts and Crafts School in Prague. He was teaching here for twenty-eight years. Many recognized artists emerged from his atelier, all of them adhering to Kloucek's emphasis on clarity of composition and simplicity of the ornament. Kloucek's work evolved from ornamental creations on house exteriors in neo-Rennaissance and neo-baroque style to naturalism, and finally to Art Noveau, in which he created his master pieces: Wohanka house portal (1898), Museum of Western Bohemia in Pilsen (1900-1901), Prague Credit bank (1902), Blecha house (1904), and Order of the Cross monastery...

Preparedness of primary school teachers for environmental education
ŠIMEK, Matouš
This bachelor thesis examines the preparedness of primary school teachers in the South Bohemia for environmental education. This readiness is thinking of competencies for effective administration and coordination of environmental education, not stint the teacher's knowledge. The theoretical part describes the development, challenges and diversity of methods of environmental education in the Czech Republic. The practical part focuses on the analysis of the education plan (SEP) and primarily qualitative analysis of the responses of teachers gathered through a questionnaire, which contained 6, mostly open questions. Based on the evaluation of these responses were determined and defined three groups of teachers of differing competencies and thus preparedness for environmental education. Further it has been verified overwhelming satisfaction of teachers with internet and levels of educational programs, training and seminars, provided primarily by NGO´s and several government agencies in the region.
