Tato diplomová práce se zabývá alchymistou Edwardem Kelleym, jenž je dosud v české historiografii neprávem opomíjen. Jedná se o velmi zajímavou osobnost, k níž se pojí řada legend, které je někdy těžké odlišit od reality. Kelley se narodil roku 1555 v anglickém Worcestru, velkou část svého života však prožil v Čechách. Pro nás je podstatné, že vstoupil do služeb vzdělance působícího u dvora královny Alžběty Johna Dee. Spolu s tímto mužem, který potřeboval Kelleyho jako médium při tzv. andělských seancích, které mu měly ukázat tu správnou cestu k dosažení veškerého vědění, se posléze vydal na cestu po Evropě. Do českého království přijeli pánové roku 1584 a Kelley zde setrval až do své smrti roku 1597. Pražský rudolfínský dvůr představoval ideální prostřední pro učence i umělce z nejrůznějších zemí, lákal též mnoho podvodníků prahnoucích po penězích. This diploma thesis is focused on the alchemist Edward Kelley who is missed out in Czech historiography so far. He is a very interesting person and there are many legends related to him, which are sometimes hard to differentiate from the reality. Kelley was born in 1555 in an English town called Worcester but he also lived in Bohemia for a long time. It is important that he took service with scholar John Dee who was engaged by the court of the Queen Elizabeth I. With this man which was looking for the right medium in so called angelic conversations, that should show him the way to reach the entire knowledge, he undertook a journey round Europe. They came to Bohemia in the year 1584 and Kelley stayed there until his death in 1597. The Prague court of Rudolf II. represented optimal background for scholars and artists of diverse countries and it was also attractive for a lot of cozeners interested in earning money.
